Hey everybody,

I was just wondering if anybody had experience in using 2+ Storm Ravens in tournament play and have been successful. I think a heavy Storm Raven list would look reaally cool on the battle field but im not sure how effectivive it would be... :s If anyone has any useful advice i would apreciate it.

Not sure it is the most competitive tournament build, but it certainly has character. If you are running 2+ SR, then it seems logical that a librarian would be mandatory for the 6 inch bubble for shrouding psychic power, to give you a nice 3+ cover save when moving flat out. Other than that maybe assault orientated units with support dreads in tow? Not sure what happens when you don't get first turn tho. If you ever try it let us know how it goes.

I ran 2 Stormravens in a tournament and tied for first place. It was a fairly small tournament though, and that was only a short while after the GK Codex came out, so my experience might have been atypical.

I did run a Librarian to take advantage of the Flat-Out + Shrouding 3+ Cover save. For the First-Turn issue, if I didn't get first turn then I reserved the Stormravens so I could immediately move flat-out once they made their reserve rolls. Even starting from your own table edge, a flat out move the turn you come in will usually you put in striking distance for the next turn on any standard-sized table.

I recently played my friends 3 raven list with my wolves in 1750. It didn't go well for him and I only use 1 long fang pack and 1 rune priest. It was 2 downed ravens on turn one and I had forgotten my MM ven dreads 1st turn pod. If he had first turn I can see how it would have been different with his flat out move and shrouding. To me it just seems more like a gimmick than a tournament list. At least I learned that my GKs will not rely on 3 ravens to get across the table :P

I would say his mistake was not reserving the ravens. Yes, you don't get to choose when to bring them on then, but you also don't give your enemy a free turn of shooting at AV12 (which is not all that sturdy).

At 1500 points and above I pretty much always run 2 ravens.

I love how they mesh with the rest of my army. They add to my elitist snobbery. "The elite of the elite riding around in their elite crates."

That and they are a huge distraction for my opponents...

Once recently I had my 2 SR's set up vs a Blood Angel player with his 2 SR's. He went first. I failed to seize. Their whole point was to draw out the 8 Bloodstrike missiles on his first turn. They accomplished that wonderfully. One even managed to survive! (super lucky, I know).

I don't know how they would go in a tournament with comp, cause none of the tournaments I've been to had a comp score. But as far as games and how they perform, I have always had great success with them.

The one main suggestion I can give: Don't hinge your entire battle plans on the success of 2 vehicles with AV 12. But as part of a more cohesive force, they can really serve you well.

An interesting idea , grey knights however are not an assaulting army and are much better at playing the ranged game in a tournament setting , if you were looking to do such a thing you'd have to look at Coteaz and henchmen squads to put into the Stormravens for assaulting units.

Somethng like , Coteaz with 2 squads of deathcult assasains ( a couple of crusaders thrown in each for the 3+ invunerable) 2 stormravens , 3 dreadnoughts with two twinlinked autocannons and psybolt , a single small scoring unit for guarding backfield objectives in a transport.
