THE PORTCULLIS
Playing a game today against a chap I know who had the ultimate answer to my GK list and TBH the list was so full of cheese it could make a man cry. Here's my list: Ordo Mallous Inq with Term armour, Hammer, Psychic Communion. Mordrak with 5 Ghosts 10 Terminators, 2 hammer, 1 banner, 2 sword, 5 halberd 2x 10 Strike Squad with 2 Psycannon and 2 hammer and 6 Halberd 2xLand Raider Crusader with Psybolts and a Multimelta This is what he had... Primaris Psyker 4x 10 Vets with each 3 plasma guns and a Demolition Charge in a Chimera 3x 5 Stormtroopers each with 2 melta guns 3x Demolisher Leman Russ each with Plasma Sponsons The ammount of AP2 I faced was desperate. The ammount of pie plate I faced was desperate. The ammount of melta my Raiders took wiped them out by turn 3. The long and short of it was that had it ended on turn 5 it would have been a draw as no objectives were captured but on turn 6 he claimed one objective but that did not matter as Mordrak, my last unit, all by himself bought a broadside of plasma. I was proud of what I managed to do against this nasty list. Have you ever met your match by a list clearly designed to take you out? Did you win? KnowThyEnemy
the issue youve got going on is your playing right into the strength of IG. how did he manage to get close enough to pop your raiders with melta? if your strike squads were in them (as i imagine they were), warp quake gives you a lovely 12" buffer to keep those DS meltas off your pretty tanks. you also have only 4 psycannons in what appears to be either an 1850 or 2000 list (no codex on me for the smaller points). at either of those point ranges, your going to be facing a decent amount of mec, especially against IG. Played a 2500 point 21 chimera list the other day, those guard know how to swarm with their tanks. these are the things i would recommend changing, not just for that IG list but in general for a better result: 1) bring more psycannons. the amount of firepower a tooled up squad of purifiers can lay down is rediculous and its not too much more than your strike squad (295 vs 270?) 2) think about psyrifle dreads. long range AT is one thing we hurt for with this codex (the last one too really). you can expect most lists to include a transport or 2, so include 2 psyrifle dreads instead of 1 landraider will pay you great dividends. no more tanks to shoot? start trying to double out ICs or hit those MC at a safe distance. 3) if you do go with strike squads as your majority troops choice, keep them light. im talking 2 psycannons and thats it. they are not, repeat ARE NOT, cc monsters. your goal with them should be mid field control. think mobile firebases. you want to inflict as much punishment on units trying to assault you before getting the charge (love assault weapons). keep them static for as long as you can to cash in on the Heavy 4 4) if you take mordrak & friends and an inquistor in TDA, give him a psycannon and join him to the squad. first turn deepstrike with a relentless psycannon in the rear of some tank (sayyyy a demolisher?) will def help your cause. 5) when taking terminators, take advantage of that relentless. 8 psycannon shots is nothing to laugh at. unless your the one doing the shooting B) 6) land raiders against IG is just a bad idea, even if they are running just a "foot-slooging" IG list. there will still be plenty of meltas and random tanks around to make that pricey investment sweat it out each turn. anyway, just my opinion. assuming your set on termies, strikes, and mordrak id go with something like: Mordrak: 5 Ghost Knights Inquisitor: TDA, Psycannon Vindicare 10 Terms: 2 Psycannons 2 x 10 Strike Squad: 2 Psycannons 2 x Razorbacks: Psybolts 2 x Psyrifle Dreads thatd be 1885, plenty of points left over for psybolts on your 3 troops, some hammers and/or a banner. anyway, good luck with your future battles Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232688-met-my-match/#findComment-2799979 Share on other sites
THE PORTCULLIS
Thanks for the tips. You are bang right, I did have my Crusaders loaded with the GK SS but simply forgot about the Warp Quake special rule! This makes me feel a bit special but I never had to rely on that rule before so it was never apparent. I'm too used to the old codex still! Had I remembered things would have been different there for sure... Thanks for taking the time out to give me the ideas to build on too. Having had all day to think about it the way to go would be Psifledreads as you point out. I think you are turning my head to the fact that wherever I can take str 7 rending I must take advantage of that and this is where I will now invest. KnowThyEnemy
Not a problem and the only reason i knew thats what happened is i did it myself last game against guard :D. poor redeemers. anyway, psycannons is the butter of this codex. its good for everything except AV12, youll get better results from the 2 dreads Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232688-met-my-match/#findComment-2800186 Share on other sites
