Favourite moment in the HH series

Every single Last Stand in Mechanicum. Especially the last fights of the Legio Tempestus and the Knights of Taranis. But the selfdestruction of the Magma City and Ipluvien Maximals forge are also pretty heroic.

Zeth's "Goodbye Ipluvien" gets me every time.

And not to forget

Captain Ehrlens charge against Angron and the bulk of the World Eaters legion.

Dying like a real World Eater

  • 2 weeks later...

The absoloute best moment was the final showdown between russ and magnus with ahriman watching from the pyramid and the wulfen crossing the river towards him.

Or perhaps phosis T'kars death

or when

The last surviving custodes(forgot his name) kills xaphen with his spear and then goes on to break his vow of silence by saying "i never liked you xaphen"

I just love

the entire transitional feel of the opening trilogy that occurs during the end of False Gods and the beginning of Galaxy In Flames. I loved how the legions were slowly falling apart at their seams, and you could just tell, this can't end well. Really powerful start to the heresy.

It's already been mentioned but

Angron 'slipping the leash' to give his Emperor-loyal World Eaters a proper death and Erhlen telling Tarvitz to run, that he couldn't stand against what was coming. And then Erhlen and his brothers swarming Angron like wolves trying to bring down a bear while Tarvitz runs and knows fear.

The Last Church in general - nice to see the Emperor put in a rare personal appearence and pre-Great Crusade/non-vision as well.

not really a moment so much as a quote from Mechanicum

"What is now proved was once only ever imagined, but only a fool relies on faith. Trust in facts and empirical evidence. Do not be swayed by passion or rhetoric without proof and substance. As long as we are free to ask what we must, free to say what we think and free to think what we will, science can never regress. It is my great regret that we live in an age that is proud of machines that think and suspicious of people who try to. Trust what you know and that which can be proven. Do you understand?"

I like that a lot

In the Flight of the Eisenstein,

Where the Imperial Fists teleport on the bridge of the Eisenstein and Dorn demands that they identify themselves and Garro just totaly tells Dorn to S.T.F.U and identify himself as it is Garro's ship.

I laughed badly then, and it has to be my favourite moment of the 40k books, let alone the HH series.

/Ventris.

That's going in my signature.

Most are from Tales of Heresy

When Angron's beating the crap out of Khârn in After Desh'ea, after murdering the dozen or so dudes to come in before Khârn, and Khârn just stand their and takes it like a boss.

In Scions of the Storm where Lorgar condemns the entire planet to death and pulls Sol Talgron aside and says. "Let me tell you about a new manuscript. I call it the Book of Lorgar."

All of Wolf at the Door and Prospero Burns.

"The lost sons and a Raven of blood" from A thousand Sons

I could go on.

I have a few favourite moments. The first one being

"I was there when Hourus killed the Emperor".

Second being when

Batman shows up to save Lorgar from Corax at Istvan, and Batman's comment to Lorgar.

The third one being

at the end of First Heretic when the blind saint tells Argel Tal about her nightmare - being a lone in the dark with a monster.

And i probably have a bunch more.

The Outcast Dead

The chessgame at the end where the Emperor explains that sometimes the only way to win in regicide is to sacrifice your Emperor to prevent the enemy from winning.

Deliverance Lost.

When Omegon cocludes his business with the Cabal by blowing their dignitary out of an airlock.

Too hard, too hard! Too many favourite moments! I have spent a long time thinking about this, and I love all of Corax’s badassery in Raven’s Flight. Ultimately, however, my favourite moment appears in The First Heretic

where we see the dæmonically possessed Word Bearers from an outsiders’ point of view and realise the true extent of the horror they have given themselves over to. They approach Aquilon the Custodian on the battlefield. He sees their leering, distorted faces, hears their ‘explanations’ as to why they have fallen to Chaos, and simply declares to Argel Tal: “Brother, you have been most blackly deceived.”

or when

The last surviving custodes(forgot his name) kills xaphen with his spear and then goes on to break his vow of silence by saying "i never liked you xaphen"

I actually laughed out loud and applauded when I read that bit. I was on a full bus at the time!

Deliverance Lost.

Are you from The Future, by any chance?

That bit is actually from William Blake’s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. But McNeill references that A LOT in Fulgrim. Good man! :)

Just checked Black Library, it shouldn't be out for another month yet my local hobby store had it for sale.

How did this happen? :whistling:

'Your Grace?'

'My sword,' Corswain reached a hand out, as if he could touch the opposing groups of warriors.

'Where is it, Your Grace?'

'Gone,' Corswain closed his remaining eye. 'I left it in a primarch's spine.'

Favourite moment of the whole series so far.

EDIT: From Savage Weapons in the Age of Darkness book.

From Legion:

When the Alpha comes out from behind the moon to destroy everyone. I mean, yeah, we saw it coming a mile away, but that's kinda what made it awesome. The fabled stealthyness of the Alpha Legion reduced to a gag? Why not.

From Fulgrim:

When Lucius tricked the guy into fighting off like 20 marines, then bragged that the only reason he did it was so it wouldn't take as many minutes to kill them all.

Was Dark Mechanicum a HH book? Probably.

When the Grey Knights guy confronts the mini titan inside the big titan, calls him out on being a daemon, then kills him. "I know what you are, blah blah blah, and I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger." - Or whatever he actually says. Warhammer. Pulp fiction. Close enough.

GK in the HH? Um no.

I quite enjoyed it when Brynngar Sturmdreng is busy beating the Blood Claws in BFTA, when Cestus walks in and proceeds to teach the Space Wolf a lesson in manners!

please dont use anything from BftA, its best if we just all ignore the book and maybe it'll quietly go away...

Point! I recognise my failings and will be sure to correct it.
