Opinions/Ideas

Recommended Posts

Alright, so I had an ENTIRELY different idea for the direction of my chapter. They're gonna keep the whole chivalrous attitude, but be focused on urban warfare, using a lot of bolters :) So a lot of CQC, but with a preference of using guns in close quarters over melee weapons. Like I said, very different. Any thoughts?
Sounds like fun. Lots of tacticals with short-range weaponry (meltas, plasma, flamers) and probably Dreads for anti-heavy/vehicle (MMs, Assault Cannons). Things like MLs and autocannons aren't as useful in packed city environments as they would be open field.
I too have my Chapter focused around close quarters firefights. From a fluff aspect i just have them using chainblades and bayonets on their Boltguns, but then again i'm pretty certain the Boltgun itself would be a rather good club if need be. Not forgeting that the Marines themselves are living weapons.

Longbows as weapons for initiates to use to advance to the ranks of the Scout Marines is a nice idea.

Not so much for actual in-combat use, unless perhaps your lads occasionally deploy squads of serfs with longbows as support units to reinforce guardsmen while your marines go about their brutal, killy business.

Bikes with the curtains round them like the warhorses of knights would be pretty neat, although possibly silly. There's some awesome conversion possibilities to make them look more horse-like, though.

You could equally, just paint a marine's bike so it's got a larger display of that marine's personal heraldry on it.

Don't forget... Knights were very condescending, and really, very non-concerned about the peasant's lives, etc. I don't see them as "goody-goody lovers of the Average Joe" so much as a haughty view of "the mighty must do what they can to save the 'little people' Guffaw Guffaw Guffaw"

Maybe take a look at the Bretonnians, in the same GW vein... They've gotten Alot darker, and I like it... The peasants are more heavily downtrodden, while the rich live Richly, and are more concerned with their affairs of the joust, and kissing fair maidens, then whether or not Peasant Jim died of the Plague... Well, if he did die of the Plague, you can segregate yourself in your castle, adn let the population die... Anyways!

In my great uniqueness, I too have dreamt of Bretonnians in space, as Marines. ^_^

Knights Errant - Blood Claws

Knight of the Realm - Grey Hunters or Templar Crusaders with squires [Neophytes] in squad

Questing Knights - Wolf Guard or Sword Brethren

Grail Knights - Wolf Guard or Sword Brethren

Both the Emperor's Champion and Lone Wolves make for epic heroes.

Instead of the regular 'we all look the same' paint-scheme that you see, each Marine would have his own heraldry as per the actual Bretonnian Knights.

You could use the crests of Fantasy Knights as a hood ornament of your bikes, right above the bolters.

A competent bike force is done with C:SM, with either a Bike Captain or Khan in control.

Firepower has done some neat Bike-Lancers: Here

You can use the Bretonnian lances, but also the GK halberds work too.

If you are open to using your imagination, when you play using C:SW, you can use your Bike-Knights as Swiftclaws, but also field Thunderwolf cavalry and have them modelled like this: post no.21

If it is fine for Space Wolves, it is fine for any Chapter we create. :D
