knights hospitalliers

I wouldn't give every squad an apothecary. Maybe have novice apothecaries called medics or something of the like, and they could be qualified to aid their brothers, but not to extract geneseed. Then keep apothecaries as higher ranking brothers, and have specialist, highly experienced apothecaries act as Captains, with each specializing in a different field. You could even call your chapter master the "Surgeon-General" ^_^

Just ideas.

It's super late, so I haven't got the time for an in depth analysis or anything, but here's my advice:

1. Ditch anything even reminiscent of "Knights Hospitaller" for a name. Come up with something original and you'll be much happier for it.

2. Give your chapter a relatively enlightened, humanitarian nature, and emphasize this.

3. Higher than average number of apothecaries, if you like. A Chapter that values life as something precious is an extraordinary and welcome anomaly to my eyes.

4. The knights hospitaller were actually famed for their naval exploits and endeavours. You might want to consider a fleet-based or navally strong chapter

Those are all excellent ideas. But remember, the only life you value is Imperial life ;)

I like the idea of medics but how can I make them look different from their brothers what if I painted their helmets white? To signify being a medic? Hmm I could change the name but does anyone have suggestions. I would like to keep with a noble/knightly name

I like the white helmet and I think doing the red cross on the right shoulder where marines usually have the tac/assault/dev ect symbol would be good. I like them being Apoths in training allowing them to tend to battle wounds but their skills are not trusted enough for gene-seed extraction or something along those lines. Maybe your chapter serfs are all trained in the art of healing and are often found helping the guard.

I would happen to agree that naming them the Knights Hospitaller does break the suspension of belief. It is kind of like calling a sledge hammer to head subtle. Maybe Knights/Brothers/Order/Sons of Gerard since the Hospitallers started in the Hospital that he founded. It still ties them in but is not the sledge hammer of Knights Hospitaller.

Awesome idea dude have you thought of maybe putting a heard in the centre of the cross and calling them "the order of the sacred oath" ?

Also, for the medics of each unit.. do the heart a different colour, as well as give the shoulder trim and the arms a white colour. Leave the white helmets for veterans.

maybe a chapter icon like this.. http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/5238/sacredoath.th.jpg
