Shaabhekh
Hey guys, Was wondering wether there was a helpful way of painting Quartered colours onto a space marine (like the Howling Griffons for example) is it all down to the painter and his/her steady hand or is there a way to help keep the lines straight? ie holding something over the other half fof the model as i paint 1 colour on one half. hope the question makes sense lol Thanks, Shaabhekh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232786-painting-quarteredhalved-colour-schemes/ Share on other sites
KhorneHunter57x
I have found that it is easiest for me to just try to have a steady hand. The other thing that I have found is that if one of the colors requires multiple thin coats (like the bone for my chapter, the Novamarines), it is easier to do those several thin coats overlapping the boundary slightly and then come back with the other color (in the case of my Novamarines, dark blue) and get the dividing line down with the color that covers better. However, my experience is with a light+dark quartered scheme (bone+blue), and it might be a bit different for a light+light quartered scheme (like the Howling Griffons). Shaabhekh
ok cool, i consider myself a steady handed painter, just little patience for mistakes lol so far im thinking i might go for DA green and Bone (ie a Quartered version of the Angels of Redemption). i may well try the bone 1st then, as i dont really want to go back and forht trying to repaint where ive gone over the 'line' you know? so ill give your tip a shot and see how that goes ;) Shaabhekh Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232786-painting-quarteredhalved-colour-schemes/#findComment-2800900 Share on other sites
Brother Valerius
I would say you should start with DA green, not bone. Do the harder color second, that way all your mistakes get to be touched up with an easy color, not a hard one. StormDragon
My chapter have a yellow and black quatered scheme. The way I paint them is to do all the yellow first not being to bothered about being neat where the colours are going to meet, infact I normally make sure that the yellow overlaps into the areas that will be black. Then I mask off the larger areas with Tamiya masking tape and paint the black. In a PA marine this normally limited to just the helmet and back pack (which I leave unglued until after they're painted). Terminators get masking tape applied to their top and back. If you look at most models there is enough detail on them that the length of any straight lines you need to paint are fairly small. Look at a PA torso, you've got the chest eagle, power cable and belt buckle breaking up the front and the mounting for the back pack breaking up the back. Obviously the larger the model the larger the areas are where you're going to have to paint a straight line, but equally the easier it is to mask those areas. I would recomend painting the lighter colour first since then you don't have to be so neat and it will be easier to cover the light colour with the dark colour along the eadges where they meet.
