Mr.darkness
first off, i am not a GK player, i just like the army in general. also, i have never bought a GK box or codex, so all i hav s the stuff i can glean from forums, and white dwarf, along with the sprue pics that they put in the magazine. i have always thought that as the GK are such a small army, they would be cheaper and better as a second force. however, when it comes to looking at the prices then it seems not, especially when compared to other space marines. you pay £20 for a 5 man squad. and nearly £30 for your termies/pallies. on top of that then you obviously still pay the high prices for your transports, storm ravens, LR, etc... then, i looked in detail at the sprue pics of the PAGK that they published in the WD. I noticed that you have a huge amount of spare pieces from that box. i believe that you could buy two boxes of PAGK and one box of tactical marines, and be able to make 20 PAGK, including 2 justicars, 6 psycannons, 2 incinerators, and the rest with fairy useful force weapons. you would just do this by mixing up the parts. for example, half of your guys wouldn't have grey knight legs, and half wouldn't have GK bodies. you get 8 storm bolters, so you need four more i you want all SB. however, i find that unlikely as all of the lists that i have seen spam psycannons. another problem would be the hands, however, i believe that you could chop them of the SM box arms. so what do you think? it would be twenty odd quid cheaper and you would only sacrifice a littlw bit of bling and maybe some versatility (i.e., you don't get as many psycannons). has anybody tried this already? I have mixed GK parts with SM parts. What I did was take Black knight torsos, filed off part of the cross(sort of looks like a book now)add shoulder pads, affix many purity seals..now I got more GKs Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232810-cheaper-grey-knights/#findComment-2801395 Share on other sites
Redtoof
I've built half a squad of grey knights this way, it works pretty well. I stole storm bolters off some aobr terminators and used individual falchions for force swords. I found the beakie heads from the tactical squad looks particularly suitable with the grey knight parts. Fingolfin
For each PA kit you get 1 spare chest plate, and a spare pair of shoulder pads. There are also plenty of spare arms (both L & R). So you can get an extra GK from each box by adding a Marines legs, back of torso and powerplant and using one of the bare GK Heads. I have 4 of the GKSS boxes, and am going to use my spares for 2 x psycannon wielders (in case I want to run one of my SS as maxed out Purifiers instead), and 2 x runnings GKs with assault marine legs. Brother Dylan
Yeah I found that I could make one spare grey knight for every gkss box. All I had to use was the legs and the back part of the chest. My source of these bits was a battleforce that I never finished building for my Templars. Inquisitor Fox
Actually done selectively it's not too bad of an idea... though I use a modified version. For regular Grey Knights, since I have old ones, I don't have an issue. However, I just actually finished gluing together a converted Grey Knights Librarian.. using one of the old 25mm pewter Terminator Librarian bodies... with a new pair of pewter Grey Knight Terminator sword arm and stormbolter army that I had in my bits box, along with a pewter shield tilt plate. This way it is still obviously a Librarian bearing appropriate horned skull symbols and the like, but with obvious Grey Knight shoulderpads and arm detail with various scrollwork and text still on the model, as well as a wrist mounted stormbolter. Epic Win :) I plan on doing something similar with a techmarine when I get to do one of those... something about a Grey Knight with nemisis force halberd, wrist mounted stormbolter and Dr. Octopus arms on his back sounds really cool ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232810-cheaper-grey-knights/#findComment-2801705 Share on other sites
Adir
I know I have plugged these guys before, but the robed marines from the Dark Angels upgrade set: http://23lines.blogspot.com/2011/04/exempl...ion-tertia.html Edit: pic from my B&C gallery. Better pics are on my blog: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232810-cheaper-grey-knights/#findComment-2804281 Share on other sites
Lt.doobie
Thought I would contribute. I created a Inquisitor in terminator armor out of an AOBR terminator and some spares from the Terminator sprue. I can't imagine why you couldn't make a GK Grand Master on the cheap with this method, just change the iconography. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/masterdoobie/IMG_0181.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232810-cheaper-grey-knights/#findComment-2804562 Share on other sites
Adir
I really like that conversion. Please post pics when you get it painted! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/232810-cheaper-grey-knights/#findComment-2804642 Share on other sites
