Most of the theories point to Peturabo being second and Angron being sixteenth of seventeenth - i'm leaving out the 'unknowns' to make life a little easier. Night Haunter 'seems' to have been found quite late on, along with The Lion. With Ferrus Manus likely being one of the early birds along with Fulgrim and The Khan.

Anyway, ponderings ahoy!

You have to think first of all, about the planets closest to Terra then I suppose we have a rough idea then fill in the blanks with bits we've been given by the HH books.

I can see Magus being in the first ten. Prospero was in alone in it's part of the galaxy but i'm sure i've seen a map of the universe with Prospero marked and it doesn't seem far away from Terra.

You can't do just 18. If one (or both) of the unknowns were discovered early on, then you'll throw Dorn's discovery (known to be 7th of 20) out of whack.

And, if I remember correctly, the Lion was found early on, despite being quite far from Terra. After all, this is warp travel we're talking about, so just because it's closer doesn't mean it's reached first. Some expeditions probably came out far further than they intended, having gone half the galaxy away, rather than just the next system.

The Lion was found one hundred and fifty years after the beginning of the Great Crusade. I think it was not so early.

There are many many threads about this on other forums, and some of the highlights that I remember are:

Perturabo was one of the earliest, and he was before Guilliman and Angron (from the short story After Desh'ea)

Magnus was found early due to his presence in the warp (can't remember the ref)

Fulgrim was found very early and travelled extensively with Horus in the early part of the crusade (ref: his flagship is 160 years old - from one of the HH novels iirc)

The Lion was later on - about 50 years before the Heresy (Descent of Angels/Fallen Angels)

Lorgar was found about 1/2 way through the Crusade (can't remember the ref)

Most seemed to agree that numbers 2-6 contained Perturabo, Magnus, Fulgrim, Guilliman, although the exact order was debatable

Hope that helps :P

PS you need to increase your list to have 20 spaces, as most also agreed that the 2 lost Primarchs were also found at some point. So Dorn is 7th out of 20, and Alpharius is 20th.

EDIT - spelling!

He said he was leaving out the two unknowns deliberately.

Problem is though, he's got Dorn at number 7 - that only works if you include the 2 lost Primarchs, because if one of those was found before Dorn, then Dorn should be at number 6 if you ignore the lost Primarchs....if that makes sense ;)
