Black Memories
So I've commented on a lot of topics and lists out there and I figured some of you may be interested in the type of list I run or a little insight into how I use them. These are the batreps from a local small tournament but they give an idea of how I dealt with a variety of lists or units and how it ended up. My list is 2000 points though I horribly mistakenly realized upon writing it out here that I was actually playing it at 2045 points. My predator is modeled as a trilas and though I have it listed as an autocannon turret, I played it as a trilas. I intend to inform my opponents and apologize for my mistake in the next league game, but I figured I'd point that out just in case. The infernus pistols on the characters and the MM on the landraider were the trade off for the trilas turret. Ironically the MM on the LR did nothing all game, and no damage was caused by the trilas pred and infernus pistols from either character in a single game (that Is to say they never wounded/penned anything during the same single game). Anyways on to my list Mephiston Librarian- Unleashed, shield, infernus pistol Chaplain-infernus pistol 2 sang priests, 1 lc, 1 pw 5 assault terms 3 lc, 2 th/ss LRC, extra armor, MM 8 ASM melta gun, fist LR, extra armor, MM 5 ASM Razorback TLLC, dozer 5 ASM Razorback TLLC, dozer Predator LC sponsons GAME 1- Tau List summary- 2 firewarrior squads in devilfish. Suits with plasma/missles or tl-missles. 3 Broadsides, 2 hammerheads. 2 Kroot squads as speed bumps. General and ethereal. Primary- Kill points Secondary- Victory points I won the roll to go first and opted to deploy first. Spearhead deployment, the LR's were deployed flanking the sides of my razorbacks with my predator behind everything. Tau played deployed along his edges with the kroot a bit further out as speed bumps. Devilrays with firewarriors were in reserve to try and avoid giving up kill points. Turn 1- Moved my LR's full distance, got one of my razors into an area cover in ruins, drove the other through ruins at my table edge. Mephiston followed a razorback into the area ruins in the middle of the board. Predator fired at some fast vehicle with a melta gun, blowing it up. Razorback immobilized a hammerhead, nothing else happened. fired my LR and did nothing. LRC was hull down from being behind my other LR. His turn 1- Moved the hammerhead away from his broadsides since it was parked in front of them block LOS to them to protect them from lascannons. Other fast vehicle with a fusion blast drove flat out to try and blow up the LRC next turn. he blew up my lead landraider (they were moving single file through the ruins), fired at the second landraider and did nothing. Failed my shield psychic test with an 11 to shield the LR (probably wouldn't have mattered). Razorback in the ruins took what seemed to be about 500 missle shots (exaggeration) from the rest of his army and managed to cover save everything since it was hull down. Other razorback had it's TLLC blown off. Turn 2- Razorback moved through the ruins and parked sideways in his deployment quarter in front of a hammerhead, 3 crisis units, and a unit of kroot. on-foot assault squad with librarian was hoofing it out of the explosion crater, ran towards the fast fusion blaster vehicle. Other razorback tank shocked the kroot unit that infiltrated into the ruins towards my table edge in my lower right hand corner where the 2nd hammerhead was and popped smoke. Kroot failed their leadership check and started running away. LRC passed its terrain test and smashed through some ruins headed in behind the razorback, popped smoke. Predator angled to take some shots at his general. Razorback hiding mephiston behind it destroyed one of the hammerheads. Predator killed a gun drove. On foot assault marines blew up the fast attack vehicle with a melta shot. His Turn 2- Moved his commander into a different cover area to try and get away from the predator. Hammerhead moved to get a better line of sight to things. Crisis suits moved towards the razorback. Kroot formed up infront of them crisis suits to protect them from assault. Broadsides destroyed my LRC, terminator were now on foot. Stunned my weaponless razorback with his hammerhead. Wrecked my razorback that was near his crisis suits that mephiston was behind, but it wrecked so it just stayed put and still provided cover. Deployed my assault marines behind it surrounding mephiston. Turn 3- Ran my termatinors out of cover with a good roll, deployed the stunned razorback's assault marines and chased to charge the kroot squad, ignoring the hammerhead. Ran the assault marines towards his broadsides. Ran the 5 man wrecked razorback squad away from the plasma crisis suits towards the boardside. Mephiston jumped the wrecked razor and in a tough decision decided to try and kill off the kroot and take cover and weather some shooting next turn. Shooting saw my huge red blob of vehicleless mech troops rushing towards the right table edge where his broadsides were. Predator killed his crisis general. Assaulted the fleeing kroot with a 5 man assault squad, they passed their leadership and fought back. They lost 9 kroot to wounds and the remaining one escaped falling back away from them. Mephiston killed the other squad of kroot, running them down but suffered a wound in the process (from 2 wounds). His turn 3- Moved his crisis suits to get range on mephiston, devilfish squad came on next to mephiston and unloaded drones and warriors. Pretty much everything unloaded into mephiston except the broadsides. Amazingly enough mephiston suffered 2 wounds on only 6 regular saves during the course of the game, very un-mephiston-like saving throws. Failed a final cover save against the last remaining gun from the hammerhead that could kill him that turn. Broadsides fired into the assault terminators, killing both thunderhammer terminators but a LC terminator made his invuln. Turn 4- Continued to move my big red blob towards the right board edge. Assault marine squad from my stunned razorback moved towards the broadsides to get in charge range. Predator moved to get a better line on the hammerhead. Shooting wise the predator stunned and weapon destroyed the railgun on the hammerhead. The ASM pistoled the broadsides to no effect. the blob of asms and terminators ran again in shooting. ASM charged the broadsides and did nothing, with nothing done in return. Drawn combat. His Turn 4- Moved his crisis suits up to shoot at my larger ASM group that was in the raider. reserve devilfish came in on a far flank to deny killpoints. Ethereal got into the empty devilfish to attempt to shield him from the predator sniping him (critical later on). Shooting saw the death of 2 of my ASM from the LR unit. Terminators lost 1 LC terminator. Lost 1 ASM in assault with the broadsides but passed the leadership test. Turn 5- The wrecked razorback squad moved towards the broadsides, as did the terminator unit. Predator stayed put. Chaplain and terminators and the other razor squad charged the broadsides. Terminators and chaplain wiped them out. Huge consolidation moves. In an attempt to rapid fire my LR ASM squad my opponent actually boxed his own units in and could not escape a 3 unit multiple assault from the LR ASM squad. They won the combat by 4 and all the squads failed their leadership tests which they could not reroll as the ethereal was in the devilfish and out of line of sight. 2 of the units were swept, the third made it safely away. Consolidated towards his firewarriors with the LR ASM group and librarian, terminators and other two ASM group consolidated up the board edge towards his last full stength crisis group. His turn 5- Crisis unit rallied, somehow the lone kroot had still not fled off the board. Shooting saw one of my ASM die and that's pretty much it. Game ended on a roll of 2. I won kill points, he scored 4 and I scored 9 (I think). Margin didn't matter anyways. I also scored more victory points, though by a smaller margin. Lessons learned: Don't give up just because your LRs get blown up early. Yes I hoofed it across the board but I knew the list he took was going to have a hard to whittling down a bunch of red berserkers running slowly across the field. Aside from the LR's getting blown up and the length of time it took to get me to his troops the army performed fairly well. Rail guns hate landraiders. Both pens on each LR were a 6 dice roll. GAME 2- Blood Angels List summar- Mephiston, 2 shooty dreads. Lib dread in a pod. Some other group in a pod. Several tacticals wih razorbacks. Devastators with a razorback. This guy kind of switched to Blood Angels not long ago. This game was unfortunately the worst game of 40k I've even had to experience from a ridiculousness standpoint. The game was barely played. In turn one I deployed my armor line in the sieze ground mission with 5 objectives. He setup his troops and deployed mephiston in a spot he didnt realize did not block from line of sight of my troops (initially it actually did, I moved two vehicles so that they could see him). I pounded mephiston with lascannon shots because I felt once mephiston went down there was nothing in his list that could stop my army from steam rolling over him. With 2 wounds left after poor rolling on my part he had 1 cover save left to make. Even though I had no remaining shooting and still 2 wounds left before the save, my opponent refused to take the save and instead pulled mephiston off the board. In his turn 1 movement he moved all his units forward and turned all his vehicles and dreadnoughts backward and didnt shoot or pop smoke. At this point I was infuriated by this childish move and told him I refused to play this if he was going to be like that. I gave him the option to concede and he refused so I informed him that I would concede and he would win with full battle points because I have more self respect than that. After the tournament organizer came over to help settle things down he eventually conceded after a bit more arguing. That was easily the most ridiculous display of childishness I've ever seen from a warhammer player. I rated him a sportsmanship score of 0. It's worth noting I have never scored anyone lower than a sportsmanship score of 8 in a tournament. GAME 3- Deathwing Primary- Sieze ground Secondary- Kill points This guy was admittedly a newer player playing deathwing, but really his strategy was pretty good, his list was just not that great. List Summary- 3 units of terminators, belial, interrogator chaplain, dread in a pod, ravenwing bikes with MM attack bike. LRC and sniper scouts. Tact squad with rhino. DoW deployment, he went first. Deployed his tactical squad in some ruins. I deployed my LR with assault squad directly across from them, 18 inches away. Deployed a razorback squad near the objective. His Turn 1- Brought on his LRC, snipers, and turbo boosted his bikers towards the objective on my side. Snipers ran further into the ruins so did the tact squad. My Turn 1- LR moved towards his bikers trying for an assault. LRC moved on the table along with my razorback towards the objective next to my LRC and my predator from behind where the LR originally was on the flank. Shooting did absolutely nothing and the ASM in the LR made an absolute max range assault on the bikers, wiping them out with no casualities in return. Consolidated towards the LR. His Turn 2- all 3 terminator groups came in. Made a triangle around the board with them. One group coming in away from my LRC, Belial coming in on the other side of the LRC and a third group with no character coming in near the LR ASM group. Belial and the chaplain's squads direct hit, the third squad mishappened and I played them in a far corner so they did nothing the rest of the game. He shot at the LR with his LR but did nothing. Scouts stunned a razorback. Belial's group shook the predator. Chaplain squad's missle did nothing to the razorback. My turn 2- Moved my razorback out of the way of my LRC and deployed the assault terminators ready to charge his chaplain's terminators. Moved my LR and ASM closer to his LRC. Moved my far back razorback flat out and my predator and popped smoke on both, getting them away from belial's group. Ignored Belial's group entirely. Shooting saw my ASMs wreck his LRC with a melta shot and a terminator die before being charged by my assault terms. My assault terms charged and killed everyone but the chaplain who made 3 thunderhammer saves. His Turn 3- Belial's group moved foward to try and assault on of the razorbacks, his tactical squad moved towards the rear armor of the predator. His shooting saw my predator get shaken and nothing happen to the razorback. Scouts penned and shook the other razorback. Belial's unit was just out of charge range, chaplain did nothing to my assault terminators and was killed. Consolidated towards the LR. He wrecked my predator with krak grenades from the tact squad. My Turn 3- Terminators got into the LR which drove up to try and harass Belial's unit. Razorback moved away from belial. ASM got into the LR and drove through some ruins to the objective. Shaken razorback smashed through the ruins into the objective as well. None of Belial's terminators died to shooting, Not assaults happened. His Turn 4- Belial's terminators moved up towards my LRC. tactical squad moved back to his objective. Scouts shot the razorback on my objective, shaking it. Tactical squad immobilized the razorback on his objective. Belial's terminators did nothing to the LR with their assault cannon. Belial's guys charged the LR. Chainfist penned but rolled a 2 for damage. My Turn 4- ASM disembarked and readied to charge the tactical squad. LRC with extra armor backed up and deployed the assault terminators. Nothing models died to shooting including his rhino for his tact squad which was hammered by lascannons. Charged his tactical squad with my ASM winning the combat. They failed their leadership test and passed initiative and fell back towards the table edge. Assault terminators charged belial's unit. Belial attacked the chaplain but caused no wounds. My terminators killed 3 of his terminators with LC attacks, belial suffered 2 wounds from the preist and chaplain. My thunderhammers failed to kill belial but killed another terminator. His Turn 5- Tactical squad fell back to near the board edge away from his objective. Not much movement, shot his scouts at my objective parked razorback, finally failed to pen it. Belial caused a wound on the chaplain but was killed by the chaplain and priest. His last deathwing model survived a beating and passed his no retreat saves. My Turn 5- shot at his rhino, dont remember if I blew it up or not. Beat down the last terminator in assault with my assault terminators. Game ended on a 2 again. I held both objectives and lead in kill points, having only lost my predator. After writing this I realized I'm not even sure what I did with mephiston this game. I know I brought him on the board but I may have just left him alone after that and not even realized it. Weird. My goal was to not put him at risk to so many th/ss terminators but I may have done too good a job at that. So that the last tournament I played in. Hopefully you enjoyed the read and can get some ideas of your own for how stuff worked. I tried to be as concise as possible while still giving a lot of information. Again this was not a super competitive tournament, just a small local one. I figured as much as I've commented on these boards I'd probably better post something about how I play, so hopefully you get a bit of perspective insight. Overall I'm fairly impressed with this list. It is ripped theoretically from an 1850 list I saw Jawaballs run but I further modified it with a predator and adding a librarian instead of a reclusiarch. It is small but it is actually a pretty solid list, though I didn't face an extensive amount of melta, as long as it's prioritized and the LR's get to their spots properly I don't forsee that being too big of an issue. I'll probably run a 2500 point version of this list at 'ard boyz with 2 more preds and another razorback, or alternatively a razor, a pred, and some MM attack bikes to pop enemy LRs and such. I actually normally run a more hybridized list, but this full mech list actually did very well for itself while still having that assaulty punch I feel is flavorful of the blood angels. The most impressive unit by far, and most eye openning, was my LR ASM squad. They racked up a lot more kills points and punched a lot harder than I was giving them credit for being able to do. I was impressed with this lists ability to lose vehicles and keep trucking like it didn't even matter. Against more hardcore tournament oriented lists I could forsee this being a problem but I believe with some good generalship it could do well. Hope you enjoyed the read.
