Death Angels

Hey brothers!

So I posted some pictures of my most recently painted Terminators a week or so ago that you can see here

So let me introduce you to the Death Angels! I came up with this color scheme and began playing this Army about 11 years ago! I had originally said six years ago, but my friend pointed out piccy's of me and my Death Angels in their first appearence at the 2000 Toronto Games Day! Age does funny things to the memory! >.< My painting skills have really improved drastically.

Here is a better piccy of a tactical marine that I finished that is painted to the quality I plan to field on the table top.

I have roughly 60 marines including tacticals, assault and some character models that are already painted, and they weren't bad, especially for tabletop quality, but I've improved alot of my techniques and now I want to start building an army again! I have stripped a good portion of my models already, but currently I am working on my Terminator Captain/Chapter Commander that I have had for years, but never painted.

It's not a great picture, but you can see that I used green stuff to do a sculpt of the chapter symbol on his shoulder pad. It's obviously the work of a beginner, but I am glad that it at least resembles an angel of death :P !

I am now nearly finished painting him, and with paint on the chapter badge sculpt it looks ALOT better. I will be posting a piccy in the next couple days. After that I will be working on Tactical Squad Graves! Graves is one of my old models that I stripped for re-painting and he is an honored hero of the Death Angels. I also gave him a nice new power sword. I also will be working on the Command Squad after that. I have an apothecary that is done that I intend to have my gf photograph, since she does a much better job then me!

Since this is the WIP thread, I'll share a piccy of what I have done so far. I'm adding my highlights now, just have a few more areas, and then I will work on the details. Note the pic of the chapter symbol I sculpted now painted.

Hey dude, really nice looking DIY chapter.

Concerning you GS'd Chapter symbol, since the DA upgrade sprue has exactly that shape'd banner top, maybe GS press moulding that and fitting it to your shoulder pads while it's still unset (about 1.5-2hrs after mixing) would be a fast and accurate way to reproduce your chapter symbol.

Cheers,

Jono

I like 'em, except for the feet.

I also find it very amusing that you and a guy in the Liber both have threads about your Death Angels right now, but they're completely different Death Angels. .

I was actually initially inspired to do my paint job after finding a website dedicated to the Scythes of the Emperor. It was old website, and I really, really liked the pattern of coloration on his Marines. It was clean and well painted. I just went and took the same pattern but instead of yellow I used blue plus my custom hand painted symbol (though I didn't do it nearly as well then as I can now).

LOL, I am not surprised, I know Death Angels isn't exactly screaming 'originality' for a Space Marine chapter, but I liked the idea of the Grim Reaper/Angel of Death as the symbol and heraldry for a Space Marine chapter. I am currently in the process of writing up the history and story behind my Angels, and it will be coming soon! :)

I stand corrected.

Though, and I'm just saying, my feet are the same color as my shins.

Well actually you are right, Ocavulg, the official scheme is black with a yellow body and backpack. No yellow on the extremities at all.

I think you don't need to have Angels of Something in their name to use the icon. They could just be called Reapers though I admit that's hardly original either. Emissaries, Messengers or even something more metaphorical like Hands of Death would be a bit more subtle.

I agree, but alas, I have been playing the Death Angels for quite awhile now, and they have worked themselves into the fabric of our gaming groups collective imaginations after many long and hard fought campaigns. Good suggestions though! ;)

I am going to post some more pictures tonight of some of my older work on these miniatures, and I hope I will complete The Lord Steward of the Death Angels Marcus Meridius before the end of the week (that's the Termie hero guy I am doing now).

As promised, here are some assorted piccy's displaying some of my older work on my Death Angels and I threw in a pic of a newer scout and my new tactical trooper to compare.

This one features one of my Captains. I ought to make a banner for him at some point.

As you can see, my technique and skill painting the chapter badge has improved over the years.

I may try taking some outdoor photos, as these are a bit darker then I would like.

Next up is Tactical Squad Graves!

New Update!

I have finished painting Sergeant Graves who will lead the tac squad I am working on right now. I took a group photo outside in some good lighting featuring the sarge.

He's the guy with the nice power sword off to the right, I know he's a bit blurry in this pic, but it's not a bad photo. You can see a Rhino I painted awhile back in the background. I plan on getting an airbrush and re-painting it and using that on all future vehicles.

Here is a good group shot

Here is my work area featuring the rest of the tac squad waiting to be finished, and my awesome new wet pallete!

I just finished this missle launcher marine, and I should have a piccy up very soon. He turned out great!

Updates!!!

Here are some piccy's of Brother Hector with his missle launcher and Brother Iago with his bolter. These guys came out great and I'm getting progressively better with blending. I am particularly pleased with the free hand company heraldry on Hector's knee pad signifying that he is in the 3rd company, and the free hand numeral 3 on Iago's left shin gaurd.
