koran
I was given an Amazon voucher as a thank you gift and decided it was a good chance to get some grey knights and try out some silver painting techniques. As such the other elements were done a bit slap-dash so forgive that. This first terminator I wanted to have a go at sky-earth metal to create a very shiny/chrome effect. For those that dont know this is done using non-metalic paints used to show the sky and earth reflecting off the metal. However, to try something new I wanted to give this a go using metalic paints but still showing this sky-earth reflection. I also had to have a reflection from the sword. This has given an interesting effect. Im not sure if I like it enough to use it again but I think it was worth giving it a go. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Experimental/DSCF4601.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Experimental/DSCF4603.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Experimental/DSCF4600.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Experimental/DSCF4599.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Experimental/DSCF4598.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m16/NeilCollins_/Experimental/DSCF4597.jpg Comments and constructive criticism is always welcome (though Id appreciate it if any change suggestions are only on the metal techniques). I will be trying some other silver techniques in the future (possible some traditional SENMM) as well as normal NMM. But for now Im going to leave this and try to get my other marines finished (and the my thunderhawk) now that I have more free time. deadlift58
i think that this effect looks great. its hard to tell from the pic, but were you able to keep some of the "shiney" from the metal while doing the earth side of the reflection? the different shades of metallics look awesome. must have been alot of blending to get the gradual change Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233180-grey-knight-an-experiment-in-silverchrome/#findComment-2806339 Share on other sites
Iron_Adam
That's proabably the best painted grey knight I've seen, the chrome is perfect. I didn't know what I was looking at until I read the description Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233180-grey-knight-an-experiment-in-silverchrome/#findComment-2806355 Share on other sites

bulley
What are you doing to create the "earth" side of the effect. I am assuming the "sky" side is boltgun up to chain/mith? Or are you mixing white for the extreme edges? Solid Zaku
It's a great experiment. I'd recommend softening the transitions between sky/white/earth a little more.
