Horus Heresy all of them?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i just started getting rolling on the HH series and boy is it good. just finished Flight of the Eisenstein... soooo good! anyway i was looking through all the books and a few of them got pretty bad reviews, i was just wondering if all the books flow through eachother like the first four have so far. Is it imperative that i read all of them in the order that they are released? ( i probably will anyway) I was just curious in case i wanted to skip one.

They are so hard to find too! i have to order them online, is there some sort of boxed set or anything?

Hey, Tran, Hope you're enjoying the books thus far!

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no boxed set for the HH books yet, because as we stand right now there is roughly 15 books in the series.

Also, after FotE, Fulgrim is the next book that was released, doesn't quite flow as much with the first 4, but as far as chronology, it starts prior to Flight of the Eisenstein, in corporates some of the same events and characters, but after the first 5, you're almost out of luck as far as novels following the same characters, etc. After the initial books, the series starts branching out more and more, because as the timeline went on, there was more and more happening. The only other books that really "Flow" into one another would be Descent of Angels/Fallen Angels.. Those and A Thousand Sons/Prospero Burns.

Hope this helped.

Some of the books go in sets. I'll give you a list:

Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames, Flight of the Eisenstien and Fulgrim (kinda).

Decent of Angels and Fallen Angels.

Legion.

Battle of the Abyss.

Mechanicum.

Tales of Heresy.

A Thousand Sons and Prospero Burns.

Nemesis.

The First Heretic.

Age of Darkness.

They are all connected somehow but these are the most obvious.

sweet! thanks for the replys... yeah i am absolutely loving the story thus far. there is just so much to read! its daunting i kind of want to branch out and read specific things about my army( just started playing 40k) but i cant stop reading about these characters. but if it is as you say and later the books are a self contained story maybe that is when I'll start picking up other books outside of HH

Battle of the Abyss is about the only one I'd actually avoid. It's entirely self contained and you don't see it's impact in any of the other novels. It's considered by far the worst of the lot.

I liked all of the other books though. Depending on whether or not you like slower paced books the other ones to watch are Descent of Angels, Legion, Mechanicum, and Prospero Burns. I thought they were all really good books but some people enjoy more action so you'll see these often with lower reviews.

when i read them in order, i thought exactally the same BOA was pointless, but now looking back at it having read the more recent books, and knowing what is going to happen with the WB's and Ultras, its actually a nice bit of gap filling, and fits well. just looked a bit out of place at the time!
