Firenze
The company of the Varangi (based so subtly on the Varagian Guard ;)) is the name of my SW force. A lost company from M35, the company left Fenris to go on campaign, yet never arrived at their destination. For 6000 years, the chapter had no idea of their fate. They were presumed lost, and their runestone removed. In 867M41 however, a flotilla of Astartes ships arrived in the Fenris system. The ships were grey, and emblazoned with a snarling wolf's head upon their prows. The ships were hailing the Fang, requesting permission to go into low anchor and disembark. The high ranking wolves of the chapter were suspicious, believing these ships to be traitor vessels in disguise to fool the Space Wolves into a false sense of security. They asked for the commander of the forces approaching to identify himself. The reply came. It was Wolf Lord Ragnarok, commander of the Varangi. The company, as it turned out, had miscalculated their warp jump, and been thrown headlong into a unknown and unmapped system on the rim of the Eye of Terror, and around six thousand years into the future. There, they had encountered Daemons and heretics alike. Believing this to be the system they had been ordered to cleanse, they began to assault each world in turn, battling for months on end against the warp scum. On many occasions, they could not replace armour and arms while in combat, and resorted to scavenging armour and weapons from their fallen foes, reconsecrating it before turing it against it former wielders. With the system cleansed through a bloody 3 year campaign by the Varangi, they returned to the Fang, only knowing of their excursion to the future when told the date by Logan Grimnar himself. After seeing their runestone exempt from the annulus, Ragnarok reluctantly decided to leave the Fang, they were already deemed lost, and they decided to carry on that way. They left on one condition, that they would be able to revisit the Fang when they needed to, to re-arm and reinforce, before setting back out for another century of bloody warfare. Here are the images of my army: The army in full at the moment: Wolf Priest and 'Wulfen' (WG with frost blades): Iron Priest Firenze: Rune Priest Irlin: A true scale Iron Priest next to a Knights Griffon and a Varonian guardsman: My Grey Hunters: Long Fangs: Skyclaws: Blood Claws: My favourite WG leader: Sorry for the lighting. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233342-company-of-the-varangi/ Share on other sites

Firenze
Cheers. The story was a little thing I was cooking up to give me an excuse to use vehicles, rather than keeping these guys 13th company. I still use them as such, until I get my 6 speeders and 2 whirlwinds  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233342-company-of-the-varangi/#findComment-2809303 Share on other sites

Roland Durendal
I'm also basing my army of the Varangian Guard, only I mixed in an Amon Amarth song too. Have some fluff written somewhere for them. But they are The Varyags of Miklagaard VII Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233342-company-of-the-varangi/#findComment-2810383 Share on other sites

Firenze
Mate, you know the Varangi were the bodyguard of Russ, right? Anyway, good work on the force, can't wait to face it once again in battle ;) Really? Meh. I'll keep the name. They were from M35, so the name could have been reused by other Wolf Lords. Grey Mage
The Varangi were indeed the bodygaurd of russ before the emperor came to him- all of them tried to join the SWs legion, only about 1/10 survived.
