Grimtooth
So had a 1000pt tournament this weekend with some special list rules that the LFGS has been tossing in for each tournament. This time it was no named characters and no upgrade characters. I hadn't planned to play but the manager needed a 10th so I tossed together a quick list of a thunderlord, 2 GH packs, and 2 Long Fangs packs. First game was Tau, pitched battle, annihilation: I never have problems with Tau. This guy ran a couple of broadsides, couple of crisis suit teams, crisis suit hq team, blob of kroot, and fire warriors in a devilfish or whatever their transport happens to be. GH pack took out his infiltrating kroot, then took some pot shots at his hq team. Long Fangs lit up a crisis suit team while my thunderlord took out another. Wolves win, 3-0 killpoints, but not a good win fluuf or victory points wise (used to determine ties). Not enough killing. Second game was a venom heavy, archon with webway portal, and dual talos. Spearhead, seize ground. So I acted like a freaking Blood Claw in this game. From the get go, I push one GH pack with rhino forward to midfield while Long Fangs that survived mass splinter cannon fire proceed to just lay havoc on the Venoms. The idiot moment of the game was disembarking my GH pack at midfield. I should have held the line on my objective, while my Long Fangs continued to lay down supporting fire and my GH could have long range rapid fired the approaching Dark Eldar. The game ended on what I thought would be a tie with each of us holding an objective, but a judges ruling on measuring from an old Talos' pincer arm instead of a base gave him the win. Even if the ruling had gone myway, I would have barely beat him on victory points and it would have been a total crap win on my part due to my ineptitude. Seriuosly, rushing to meet Dark Eldar midfield? Who am I Toasterfree? ;) :D Last game was against Blood Angels, Dawn of War/Seize Ground. Regained my composure and decimated this poor guy. Thunderlord defends GH pack by stalling ss/th terminator squad for 3 turns. GH pack with plasmas drops blood talon furiouso, finishes up remaining ss/th pack, kills an RAS, and conga lines to hold two objectives. GH pack with meltas drops librarian and RAS to claim an objective. Long Fangs dropped a Storm Raven first turn and wreck a Rhino. A complete tabling of the BA player and 3/5 objectives held. Another bad game against a person who was fairly new getting back into the game with a weak list. So I went 2-1 in yet another tournament and the last tabling netted me 3rd place. Marshal Wilhelm
Yeah I learnt about Deldar killing MEq in my first game against the current Dex. I had blown him out of the sky with my big guns and was generally pwning him. It was supposed to be a friendly match and I hopped some squads out to fight his sorry remnants in mêlée. I would not have done this in a tourney, but I felt somewhat bad for the beating I inflicted. My disembarked squads took a hammering! I couldn't believe it. I knew to never hop out of the Rhinos again! - at least not if the game was on the line. When I played in a tournament two weeks ago, the Deldar player popped two Rhinos on T1. I knew what was coming :tu: . All my men were dead by the end of T4 :P So yeah, stay onboard. That was a bad call by the judges. It is bases where things have bases. +++ Did the Tau player have drones for his Suits? I find they are essential when you consider the amount of s8 ap3 getting around nowadays.... For Tau in a KP game, there isn't a need to get the Kroot deep onto the table, but I guess you taught him that one :D Devilfish are the Tau's APC. Grimtooth
I had the Dark Eldar player just hammered and on foot and I really can't even think whyi went to midfield. I could have him footslogging through rapid fire range if I had just stayed back. I got a little carried away and wanted to get some killing done. Yea, the Tau had shield drones/gun drones but they were dropping like crazy and Instant Deah was just wrecking him.
