Sobansa
Ok, this is a chapter inspired by this quote by Wedge Antilles I read once, "Since the battle at Endor, the military's public relations groups have represented Rogue Squadron as if we were the lightsaber of the New Republic. A bright, shiny weapon to cut down any dark Imperial holdovers who still stand against us." They are put bluntly, the bright shining lightsaber of a Chapter. They are so dedicated they abandoned having a homeworld all together and instead created a self sufficient fleet to carry them from world to world fighting as the imperium has need. Their combat doctrine is based on finding shatter points and hitting them hard and fast and then leaving once the Job is done to go to another embattled world elsewhere in the galaxy. (Ok, so it's pretty generic) I thought that to spice this chapter up a dark secret would be interesting but I have no idea what it should be. Tyther
Perhaps killing a corrupt Inquisitor? That Inquisitor (whatever Ordo you would like, but Malleus or Hereticus seem more likely) could have allies that either do or don't know that s/he was dirty, and wonder what happened after that one time on the planet with the Lightsabers of Warhammer (okay, terrible Chapter name, but that's besides the point)? Maybe because of that, the Chapter has to walk a tightrope with the Inquisition, because what happened is still fuzzy. Arkangilos
Or maybe you accedentally destroyed an Imperial World that could have been saved? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233447-dark-secret/#findComment-2810499 Share on other sites
soddinnutter
They are currently fielding about two chapters worth of marines across a very wide area and no one notices because they wear different armour, each company has a different name instead of a numerical designation, the chapter has been fiddling it's own records and has the help of one of the high-ups in the Administratum after they saved his home world. It may have gotten to the point now where the Chapter Master/Lord Marshal/High-Knight-Commander may have started to loose track of the exact numbers. If forced to answer he could only come out with "about 2,300ish". But as each group consists of 40ish Knights/Brothers/Whatever helping out the Guard Regiments It's not evident. The =I= suspects them of hiding something but they always suspect them of trying to hide something more mundane like mutation or xeno-contact so they never seem to look in the right place. Or they could all be suffering some sort of mutation that makes them ugly as sin. Or they could be using clones. They keep genetic records of any and all they come in contact with. Then if an aspirant becomes exceptionally good they make a clone of him, then they give it the originals name, put it through the training and transformation and then place it on ice. Upon the moment of the originals confirmed death the clone is awakened, given the dead marines battle-gear, told to read his diary and let loose upon the galaxy. Cloning is technically illegal in the Imperium by Mechanicus Law (Krieg being the exception). The reason is the long term detrimental effect it has on the human gene-pool. But a marine is never a father so this, they feel, holds no sway on them. They are not sure what would happen if the main-stream Mechanicus were to ever find out. Sceadwe
Or maybe you accedentally destroyed an Imperial World that could have been saved? Master Of The Fleet - Adept, send the signal to withdraw, our work here is done. Adept - Aye Lord =pause= Adept - Uh, sir, I accidentally pressed the 'Destroy Planet' button instead of 'Send' Master Of The Fleet - Not again... I like the corrupt Inquisitor idea, that way, there is no outright hostility, but your chapter needs to tread carefully when they know the Inquisition is around. How about an obsession with collecting xenos/chaos artifacts, they store them in secure vaults to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. They know that the Imperium would never understand this (and certain parts of it would kill to get their hands on this stuff), so they don't advertise the fact they do it. But they are always scared that someone will find out... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233447-dark-secret/#findComment-2814132 Share on other sites
