Iron-Daemon Forge
Scotland Invasion battle report He'll rise higher than ever before and then fall so much further Hi everone My local GW store ran a trip to Warhammer World Nottingham which is great. This allow people who would not normal get the chance to go down unlike me as I've enter the Throne of Skulls/GT down there/been going to Nottingham for ten years due to tournaments, etc... The store chose to run a 1200pts single tournament & with 28 Gamers, we where good to go & so here my story/battle report. Army list. With this being 1200pts, I was going to take my Space Wolves I been useing in the tournament scene since last year. However it would mean dropping stuff. I am not usely a fan of small points games, but that the end of the day this was a trip to Nottingham & like wise it was going down with my friends, people who I get on with in the store, it because of my local GW store I enjoy going to Games Day for exsample as travel take a while, spend more time travel than the events them self so alway good to be with everone you get on with. So end of the day I was willing to put aside my not so keen toward small games aside. Usely 1500pts & above for me if people want games. So my army list. The Gate of Morkai Strike Force HQ Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar Rune Priest, Runic Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Chooser of Slain Psychic power: Living Lighting, Jaws of the World Wolf Wolf Priest Bronn Starks Wolf Priest, Plasma Pistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Wolf Amulet, Crozius, Fang of Morkai Elites Dreadnought Odin Dreadnought, Dreadnought close combat weapon w/Storm Bolter, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Plasma Cannon, Extra Armour, Wolf-tooth necklace – 140 Wolf Guards: Sevn, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Edgtho, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Rethel, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Fist, Combi Melta – 43 Troops Grey Hunter Unit Trovald 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit Gnyrll 5 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & Krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard – 120 Razorback, Searchlight, Smoke Launcher, Extra armour, Twin Linked Lascannon, Dozer Blade 5 – 95 Grey Hunter Unit Ranek 7 Grey Hunter, Bolter, Bolt Pistol, close combat weapon, Frag & krak Grenades, Power Weapon, Melta Gun, Mark of the Wulfen, Wolf Standard Rhino, Smoke Launcher, Searchlight, Storm Bolter, Extra Armour, Dozer Blade – 55 Fast Attack Land Speeder unit Storm Wolves 1 Land Speeder, 1 Multi Melta, 1 Heavy Flamer Wolf Priest was taken purely for this event instead of a Lone Wolf I was orignaly going to take, but I'll get to that in a bit. All I can say is I am very happy how the Wolf Priest done. Please bare in mind that a lot of the details are hazzy that best. I met up with a few people from my local GW store to go out for a curry which was brillaint :) & adding onto that I was awake 7am on the Mon up until 6.30pm on the Tue. The bus we where to get down left the store around 1.30am Tue moring, then gaming from 10am until 5ish?? I had way to much coka cola which was one of the reason I was up for the might 36 hours with no sleep, maybe this help me on the gaming front as well ;) So yes after the bus trip down from local GW store to Warhammer World, having a great breakfast in Bugman bar. It was time to get sorted & get a few games in during this one day trip. My Space Wolves first game out of three would be against the Imperial Guards on table 4. Also I do not do a turn by turn account, more photos & what I rememeber.... which as said I was up for 36ish hour. On the way back home I pretty much KO. Round 1 - Let the bodies hit the floor.....!!!!!!!!!!! Oppent - Brett Army - Imperial Guards Army list - It way to earily in the moring to rememeber & by this point I was awake for 27 hours. Mission - Kill points, Dawn of War set up. I know Brett from back in 2008 when I started working in GW Edinbrugh as part time, as he would cover the store until part timer was found. Like wise he gose to my local GW store ever now & then due to friends in the area. I rememeber Brett was woundering what army to take to this trip to Nottingham & it was me who suggested he take Imperial Guards over on facebook. How happy I was, as the other army he was thinking of taken was Tau. Tau one of my bane armies no matter what I use. But I never knew we'd be drawn, the look on his face when he pick table 4 just after me. From what I rememeber, Brett keep a lot of his unit in reserve choosing to flank them, one being a 40 man platoon combin :) While my army was on the table setting up, getting ready to take him on bit by bit when arrive by reserve. It work. Brett brought on his 40 man platoon with the support units & was unlucky to do no damnge to my tanks. In my turn I corner off the flanking Imperial Guard platoon & support sending units of Wolves to deal with them bit by bit. My Rhino unit with the support of Odin my Dreadnought went into the combi 40 man platoon unit & slaughter them with out a wound. I failed a armour save on my new Wolf Priest model, but having called upon the Wolf Standard so the all might Leman Russ of Fenris & the All father to protect, they heard my Wolf Priest pray. In the end my Space Wolves had slaughter these oath breaking Guards to a mere two Leman Russ & I got 5 Kill points while the Guard got 3, being a unit & two tanks. DoW I move out pop smoke turn 1 http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09449.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09450.jpg 40 Guards flank http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09452.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09454.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09455.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09456.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09457.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09460.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09461.jpg My three Wolves before the unit was killed, hunting down the Leman Russ battle tank. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09462.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09463.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09464.jpg So with the end of round 1. It was time for our first break. The Event team kindly set it up where half of our group would get to look around the mesuiam with a staff memeber going through the models, how they where painted to the models we see today in the codex & box cover, etc... & just any general hobby question we had on Eavy Metal models. While other half get there launch, then swap after that. Got to say dispit all my time going down to Nottingham for tournaments. I never really had a properly look in the mesuem. If you do go, take time check it out, well worth it. I got to say the models are a lot better in real life than they are on the web/codex/box cover. I'll get some of those photos up after the tournament report. Next round 2. Iron-Daemon Forge
After some great food & a look around the Warhammer World meusem (sp) it was time to hit the gaming tables for round 2. I found I would be on table No2 & against Blood Angels led by Scott. Round 2 - Rage & Fury Oppent - Scott Army - Flesh Tears Army list - Once again sorry due to being awake 29 hours around this stage. From what I rememeber, there was two unit of 10 Assault marines, two unit in Bikes along with a Librarian who would tag along & then two Land Speeder. Mission - d3+2 objects, pitch battle. After round 1, it was time for round 2, where I would be against Scott on table two. I met Scott on the Mon when other veteran games went out for a curry before meeting up in the store. So got to talk to him about the army he'd be taken & is there anything he worry about face, etc... Overall for me I was worry when he said about taken Blood Angels. My friend Graham use his BA army to great effect & I know what they can deal out. The key to this game was about picking my combat where I could & try to get the assault on my terms. Pretty much from round 2 onword it was bitter close combat betwen the Space Wolves & Blood Angels. I was worry when Scotts two units of Assault marines hit my lines taken out one of my Grey Hunter units & a Razorback. In the end the Blood Angels where to a unit of Biker & two Assault Marines. While I had my Rhino unit with Rune Priest & my Wolf Priest who later join another unit of Grey Hunter in Lascannon Razorback so they could go & clear a object from few remaing Blood Angels. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09504.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09506.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09507.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09508.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09509.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09510.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09511.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09512.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09513.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09514.jpg After round 2 it was time for a quick break & then on to the last & finial round for the day & for the gamers from my local GW store to head back home. Iron-Daemon Forge
After a short break it was time for the last & finial round. I was against my friend Graham Duffy. We not battle each other for a while due to real life, but we both knew we'd be battle each other during this event. Duffy had been holding onto table one since round 1 up to round 3. While it seem lack of sleep & hype up on coka cola help me, beer & good fried breakfast was helping Duffy for him & gaming :) Round 3 - Old foes Oppent - Graham Duffy Army - Blood Angels Army list - Chaplain w/Power Fist, 7/8 Death company, Storm Raven, Death Company dreadnought, two unit of Assault Marines. Mission - One object each, spearhead set up. I not fought Duffy since Feb when we had a 3000pts game that our wargaming club. But since then real life got in the way for both of us to try get re-match. Duffy has also been my Conflict Scotland team mate for the doubles tournament. So into the finial round & Duffy has been holding table one for all three rounds. If I won this, I would win Scotland Invasion...... no pressure. My aim was to take down the Storm Raven as soon as possible as I know how much damnge the Death Company Dreadnought & unit will do as soon as they hit the gaming table. Sadily on my first turn I immobile one off my Razorback. Even with dozerblade. This ment that my Grey Hunter with in would not be able to fire both Melta & Wolf Guard combi melta. Following this the rest of my units failed to do much damnge other than to stop the Storm Raven from fire for a turn........doh!!! After that the Death Company Dreadnought & Unit hit into my line, slay many a Space Wolf battle brothers. But the Space Wolves mange to battle back. My Wolf Priest led a counter charge into Duffy Death Company with there Chaplain. In a epic battle worthy of a saga, both side had slaughter each other with no one left alive. Both Wolf Priest & Blood Angel Chaplain killed each other in a epic dule, while the Death Company & Space Wolves rip each other apart, one lot from the Black Rage, while the other the Wulfen. In the end I was slaughter with nothing left. Duffy had won. In the end Graham had came 3rd, while I came 4th. For the store trip, this mini tournament had some points toward painting. Basicly standard 3 colour = x amount of pts, base, etc..... with 15 in total. http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09515.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09516.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09517.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09519.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09521.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09521.jpg http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee412/JFmodel/nott%20trip/DSC09522.jpg I though I take more photos. But seem I sadily did not, game was a real blood fest between the Space Wolves vs Blood Angels, I guess I got to focuse into the game, trying to try counter ever move Duffy made. In the end I ended up 4th place over all & my Space Wolves walk away with the Best Army award which I am really happy about. Finial Wolf Priest. You can see my note on why I take the unit I have in my army on my other tournament reports/battle reports. So get one done for the Wolf priest. Orignaly I was going to take a Lone Wolf arm with Storm Shield & Chainfist. However I was not to keen on the conversion I done, just did not seem to lone wolf. So looking through the codex I though I give the Wolf Priest a try. Overall I find him to be a really good choose. He did a lot of damnge & during this mini trip he was only ever killed in Graham Duffy game. Other games he shot the foes with his Plasma Pistol. While in combat he never miss, he slaughter all before him. I know for future use of the Wolf Priest, I'll be getting him a bit more tooled up for combat a bit more as that a area I like. I like going in & kick my oppent army in. One thing I find a shame is that the Wolf Priest is not able to take a Power Fist. Just it a old school combo where when in combat ether pick a Power Weapon say 5 man Combat Marine squad & power fist vs Dreadnoughts. Great time & I enjoy going down to Warhammer World. I'll be going down to Throne of Skulls July so keep a eye out. Hopeful be done a little bit better & I will have much more sleep & lot less coka cola. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Outflanking with the guardsmen into an army of Space Wolves doesn't seem like a good idea. Sure, you'll kill a tank, but you can only kill a single tank since they're all one unit. And then they'll get assaulted and killed. Did he have anymore reasoning beyond what you put in there?
