We are the Lords of the Storm

I am working on starting a storm lords army. I am working on a test model. I will be doing this army with air brush techniques I have been reading about, this model was done by hand as my birthday is in a week and I am waiting for my surprise airbrush gift. :cuss

I am also working on, and so far failing, a sculpted chapter symbol. Any tutorials or sculptors willing to help out I would appreciate it.

I have a contemptor dread on pre-order and will be converting a techmarine, command squad, and company captain to go with the army initially, wish me luck, and that July will go by quickly so the dread comes!!!!

WIP so far, C&C appreciated.

Wow, I never see anyone paint Storm Lords and you've done an amazing job so far. As far as sculpting a Chapter symbol I suggest looking up MasteroftheForge like Grotsmasha said. His site I believe has a tutorial on sculpting symbols if that helps (plus try tracking him down on here as well). Cant wait to see more.

As most people have already said, I've also never seen anyone paint this chapter, and I must say you've done it brilliantly...the off white, yellow helmet and deep red are spot on....keep it coming my freind.

UPDATES!!!

I am super excited to try this scheme with an air brush because I think I could get the black and off white done a little better, but we shall see. I think the contemptor dread I have on order is going to look amazing. I need some help with basing as you will see in this picture.

Updated pictures!!!

And what I am most proud of (though I am waiting to hear back from Lamenter about help with shoulder pads!)..

Quick edit: I missed the hoses on the fuel tank of the gun so I fixed those. And final question. Do you guys like the black under the shoulder pads?

Thank you all for your comments so far. I do have a few questions. Do you think after 9000 years they retain their Mongolian roots or would I be OK expanding on that a little bit. I am looking at taking queues from the Varangian Guard / Kataphractoi of the Byzantine Empire to build the army, but wasn't sure if I should practice green-stuffing braids and such or if I could go a bit less Mongolian, while maintaining the armored assault stuff. I just need help figuring out what to do for 'flavor' since I don't want them all in helmets and looking the same. Especially the company Captain I am dreaming of!!!

The symbol was easy to paint, especially the lightning bolts. The skull was harder.

Thanks again guys.

Neat! And awesome!

And 9000 years? No. I think they might retain hilariously misunderstood Mongolian roots, but that's rather different. :)

I'd individualize them with various ornamentation, gadgetry, and trophies.

The fluffy stuff on the base doesn't work, imho. I'd recommend bog standard sand and flock or variations thereof, but that's me. :)

It looks alright, creates a deeper shadow there - not something I'd do but that's personal choice. It's good as is I say.

Short answer? Yes. Long answer: Yeeeeeesssss. :P It's nine millennia worth of divergence - the Varangian Guard idea sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Go for it. :P

Concerning your base.....try putting the basing sand on before you undercoat the model......then when you've nearly done that all put the grass on after....hope that lil easy spanner helps?

C&C

The white is done with Fenris Gray (the light grey foundation gw paint) built up on an astronomicon grey undercoat, followed by a wash of black wash. Then another highlight of the light grey followed by successive essentially washes of skull white to build it up. Air brushing will be much, much easier!!

Decent conversion there, I can see the loin cloth scales add a little Byzantian-ness to the model. That and the halberd are a nice touch of flavour.

Work on my captain.

"We are the Brotherhood of Flame, the 2nd Brotherhood of the Storm Lords Chapter of Adeptus Astartes. I am Brotherhood-Captain Nicerite, and with me I bring the cleansing flame of Hate to those who would rebel against the God-Emperor of Mankind. We are the sons of Jagatai, and the swiftness of our vengeance has been perfected over nine thousand years of strife and constant battle. We are the Storm Lords, and we are coming for you." - Recording found on a vox belonging to rebel guardsmen on Aurus VIII.

Here are my pictures of my WIP Captain. I have to build up the white still, paint the cloak and the backpack and weapon. Red still has to be finished and so does the bronze....but hey..it's closer to being finished. C&C all would be appreciated. Oh, and should I do battle damage or keep him clean, like he just got out of a Drop Pod?

A bit more picture good-ness! Still have to do a bit more highlighting on the cloak, the weapon blade, the crest on the helmet and some other little bits, like working on the white on the leg.

Let me know what you guys think!! Also, should i put hazard stripes on the storm bolter casing or should i just highlight the black? and yay or nay to battle damage/ OSL?

Thanks again all for the encouragement.

Brotherhood-Captain Nicerite is looking ace :)

He captures the 'noble savage' look i think suits the WS and their successors so well. You've made a great model (Crowe) look event better.
