Chaplain Rourke The Fanged
I just figured you really wanted people to know about Thunderwolves  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233649-is-it-believable/page/2/#findComment-2816854 Share on other sites
brother natar
No posts in over a year and now three in one day? On one thread? i must really like the possibilities of this Chapter. Just got to say that you could use that reasoning about the Thunderwolves, but the sons of Fenris still use them! And do you like the Thunderwolf idea? Personally, they may look coolish but really suck in relation to Space Marines in my opinion. There are ways to get around having a beastly mount without making the cliche 'we ride -insert animal/creature-' idea we have all done at least once. For instance, i had the very bad idea of making a Spartan inspired Chapter once (obviously i hadnt heard of Ultramarines... who are Spartans in blue, really) and had them riding dragons (i know the Spartans werent particularly known for this, but there you go). Instead of just mounting Space Marines on a Cold One or something similar, i took Cold One heads and tails, and mounted THEM on Space Marine bikes. This looked less silly as Power Armoured giants on lizzards, and i think the idea would work better here too: panther style heads on the front of the bike so the Marine riding it is, in a weird way, riding a panther rather than sitting on an oversized kitty cat. Think practically, animals are much less reliable as a mount than vehicles. They get wounded easily and get scared, which vehicles dont. Chaplain Rourke The Fanged
See now that I like, maybe the riders mount the skull of the creature that he killed on his bike in hopes of adding the power of the cat to his ride. The Celts after all were head hunters and believed that the head contained the soul, the center of emotions and life itself, a symbol of divinity and the underworld powers. The Celts were known for hanging the heads of their enemies from their horse.
