Newb Question about Grey Hunter equipment

Well, I'm done with law school so it is time to get back into 40k. I have always played xenos in the past so I am very excited to start my first marine army. Even more excited that its space wolves. Anyway, I was about to assemble my first set of Grey Hunters when I came upon a problem.

In the Grey Hunter entry in the dex, it says they have both a Bolter and a Bolt Pistol and CCW. So, does this mean I have to choose one or the other? Or does this mean they can shoot with the Bolter in the shooting phase and then fight with the Bolt Pistol and CCW in the assault phase (meaning I get the plus one attack for extra CCW)?

Also, depending on the answer, do people generally model their Grey Hunters with Bolters or Bolt Pistol and CCW?

Thanks for taking the time to answer a lame question.

They have both. They may use both (well only 1 shooting attack but you get the point)

May shoot bolters one turn, and fire bolt pistols the next turn and then charge with +1 atk.

I generally model mine with a boltgun and ccw because it looks ridiculous.

A Grey has all three of those weapons, and switches seamlessly between them.

They cannot shoot with the bolter and then assault. The Rapid Fire rule prevents units from launching an assault. But you can fire the bolt pistol instead and then assault.

Basically a Grey is as shooty as a Tactical Marine, and then as choppy as an Assault Marine :P

This makes them the most flexible of all the Astartes, barring the GK.

You can:

• shoot once at 24" - with the Bolter

• shoot twice at 12" - with the Bolter

• shoot once at 12" - with the Bolt pistol, and then Assault

Assaulting can get your unit closer to an enemy Objective

Assaulting can get the enemies unit off an Objective even if you don't kill his unit, due to consolidation

Assaulting can take your unit off your Objective

Sometimes it is best to just shoot, and other times it is best to assault to stop your unit from being shot and/or charged, even if you could do as much damage with just guns.

You cannot fire bolters before assaulting unless you are relentless, just like heavy weapons, but you can move and shoot with them. You can shoot and assault with the pistols though.

...And everything else Wilhelm said.

Since the rules portion has already been explained... numerously, I'll toss in my modelling opinion. I usually mix it up with some w/ bolter, some w/ pistol/ccw. So long as my shoulderpads scream Grey Hunter pack, the armaments don't matter much (imo).
I mix it up with modelling, I did read about a tournament the other week down south who does knock off points if you don't both modelled which is ridiculous.

I model my Mark of the Wulfen models with the shoulder pads that have the fur draped over them. I have also modeled them with dual ccw, one of them with the big two-handed axe from the power armor sprue.

On the topic, I have mixed my GH packs with a mix of ccw/bolt pistol, ccw/bolter, and bolter. My dual plasma gun pack is modeled with all bolters, no ccw except the power weapon model. They are either always an objective sitting squad or a fire support squad to my dual melta gun squads. I think of them standing the line delivering bolter fire into an enemy unit to soften them up for an assault or entrenched on an objective delivering long range fire to an approaching unit.

It's not a lame question :D We all have little things that need clarifying every now and then, doesn't make you any less in your brother's eyes ^_^

I've modelled many with Bolter and Chainsword, Bolter, Bolter and Bolt Pistol and Bolt Pistol and Chainsword. Best thing about our kit, there are REAL one handed Bolters  And yes, in game terms, they get both :)
