So it begins, my Raven Guard

Sgt. Wolf

Recommended Posts

Well met, fellow Astartes.

With this, I'll start my building, converting and painting log.

Regarding fluff with names and storyline, there isn't much to tell yet, I'm sorry.

I'm playing around with the idea of this being the 5th company and my Shadow Captain being a successor of Shadow Captain Valan. Not sure yet, might end up with something else entirely, any input is valued.

I've also included an army-list for 1500 points as part of the picture presentation, wich is what will be prioritised to get finished first. That being said, we all know how easy it is to wander off into some other cool build, conversion etc.

When building my guys, I've used a lot FW-bitz as well as various conversions. Guess I'm affected by the 'I-can-not-stand-identical-models-in-my-army' syndrome... Sound familiar?

I'll readily confess, I'm in love with resin.

So, without further ado, I present the buildt models so far:

Those pesky mold-lines showing up on some of the pictures, has been taken care since I took them. Very unforgiving them close-ups...

Well, that's it for now, feel free to ask questions about the builds, and I'll share what bitz and parts being used.

For the record, painting has commenced.

Let me know what you think.

Aha, well... I think it looks good ;)

Anyway, I'm painting the tac squad right now, and I've ended up with an not entirerly black scheme. More of a very dark grey. I think highlights on black is tough to do very good, at least to make it look natural. We'll see, so far I'm quite happy with whats in front of me on the desk. If it's successful, I'll post the paint recipe here.

As far as company goes, I think I'm leaning towards 5th company for now.

And regarding markings, I'll see what I come up with. Thankfully, the Raven Guard doesn't adhere too strictly to the Codex in this matter, wich makes perfect sense tacticaly speaking. That being said, chapter markings will appear on the left shouilder... Probably company number on knepads/greaves also...

As a sidenote, funny thing just happened. As I was typing, one of my dogs decided to drink the water I've just prepared for the decals, he got up on two legs and gulped it down, damn critter!

Thank you all, appreciate it.

My chappie will recieve some paint indeed, even if he isn't part the initial set-up. I'm thinking he'll be a nice stress-reliever in between the more standard guys...

The first squad should be done in a few days, don't wanna rush the first gang since they'll be setting the standard, so to speak.

I will post piccies when they're done.

1) Where did you get the double-sided chainsword from?

I recognise it - It's an Imperial Guard Sentinel chainsaw. Not even sure if the current Sentinel sprues have it anymore, though. It was a contemporary release to Codex Catachans, I believe. ;)

While I'm at it:

2) What body is that on the chappy?

It's an assault version of mkII armour, recently released by Forgeworld. :D

Everything seems real fine but the thick chain holding the holy chappy's 5th edition rulebook, far far too thick (look at the chain holding the raven's skull on another photo and you will see what I mean.

First of all, thanks for the nice coments, I hope I don't let you down when it comes to painting.

Yeah, it is a little thick. I might go look for thinner one, but honestly, I do like it as it is. I think it fits with the chaplain theme, it's there to be seen. "Look, I'm keeping this big book of mine, no matter how much you want it, traitor scum!!!', or something like that :D

@ Olisredan; two cookies for you. Correct on both counts. That should answer your questions Merikz.

@ Marshal2 Crusaders; Sorry, none of the above. No space Puppy parts used, and no intention of a native american theme here, though it could come across that way with the feathers and bird skulls. So, no cookies for you, this time ;)

Aaah, I see... Yes, you're right, it is an Chaos PF. But all the chaos marking and stuff has been removed. I actually spent some time reworking that fist, so I should've posted better pictures of it, in the first place.

Well, here goes.

It's not the best pic, but you can barely see that the symbols is shaven/filed off, and that I've put a brass etch raven there and some bolts on the 'knuckles'.

Hope it's not so much 'oh no, it's a chaos fist' anymore.... :P

Ok, this is just a little sneak peek.

My tac-squad is well under way, about half way done I'd guess...

Ok, so while we wait for the paint to dry, so to speak, here's little update and what's to come.

The chappy is primed and ready:

A libby:

And something else:

C&C velcome, especially on the libby, wich is mainly made of the GK termie-kit.

'I'd remove the templar cross from the belt of the PA marine though. '

You think? Actally, that's a trick question. See, he's not part of my RG per se, but for my Death Watch team that 'might' tag a long :)

Guess who's gonna lead them? Clue; this would be AFTER the Kastorel-Novem raid...

''ll assume that Templar is in there as a stress reliever model?'

I sold (almost) all BT's, see above. ;)

Anyway, about the libby. Could use some feedback on him though.

I agree with the guy above me.

Some really nice conversions here :)

I especially like the Telion conversion and the Chaplain.

I see that you have a some Heavy Weapons from Forgeworld as well!

I'm having huge problems getting mine to fit properly.

Did you trim some of the resin to get yours to fit?

Is there any chance you could post some photos of your Plasma and Melta gunner from the side and behind?

Or send photos to my E-mail perhaps?

I'm really interested in seeing how you positioned yours.

Thanks ;)

Keep up the good work!

Well, alright then, but only since we're 'neighbours' ;)

I actually had no problems getting it to fit really, but I did a lot of dry-fitting. I also pinned the arms to the torsos, so I could 'flex' the shoulder-joint a bit before gluing.

Guess you can't tell on these pics, but it's important that the pads upper rim 'levels' up with the shoulder-rest on the weapon. Also, I glued the arm, pad and weapon into one 'package', before pinning it to the body...

Hope it helps 'kompis'. B)
