Renegade chapter? (is it believable)

So...

the idea would be to basically have a chapter that has been forced to go renegade due to extreme and unstable psychic mutation.

They would have been 21st founding

EVERY member of the warband would be a sorcerer to one degree or another.

Their mutation would basically make it so that their minds had no barrier between them and the warp, it just spills out with no way to contain it, except for heretical ways :P

Their armor would be inscribed with runes of warding and various magical paraphernalia to channel and lock away their psychic power.

Only the most experienced could allow the wards to slip and utilize the powers...

That is what I have so far, I just need to figure out HOW they mutated (need help ...)

It would have been something that nobody could have noticed or they would never have been made, but I WOULD like to imply that their geneseed was tampered with and no flaw presented itself until later.

Maybe a tzeentchian chaos sorcerer is behind it?

What about warp storm caused instability??

Failed attempt at using Magnus + Guiliman geneseed? (I know the rules say no)

I just don't know how to work it in!!

Any thoughts, comments, suggestions??

Well, you could always have the event that caused it shrouded in mistery, saying something like, "Though it is uknown what truly happened, it is rumored that it could have been some sort of instability in their geneseed caused by an experiment gone wrong." (because it is 21st founding). "What is known is that in the events to follow the (insert cool name for the event here), most of the chapter was lost, and those that survived (enter what happens). In an attempt to stop the final destructions of the chapter, Chief Librarian (enter name) looked for answers outside of the Imperium, and when he had realised what must be done, had convinced the survivors to turn to Tzeentch. It was only then that their salvation came."

Or, "Upon the battle of (name), a dark artifact was found. Not knowing what they were handling, they took it back to their fortress monastary to be added to their reliquary. Within a few years, something had manifested itself in the chapter, and unlocked something hidden in their gene-seed. (then enter what happened)."

well being the 21st founding you can do pretty much whatever you want the gene-seed. Who knows what a mad Ad-Mech scientist would have tampered in during this time. They pretty much did everything under the sun to gene-seed in an attempt to improve Space Marines.

They could have been travelling through the Warp and a little hiccup in the ship's Geller Field caused a particularly powerful and subtle Chaos entity to get in the ship and tamper with things.

They could have been an attempt at creating a chapter like the Exorcists but someone forgot to carry a 'y'.

(I take it these are going to be DIY Grey Knights?)
