S Knabe
Excellent work. Clean, crisp, and bold paint. I think that I will be using a similar look on that helm for my LW. For the bases, I think it depends on the overall look you want for the army. Maybe add some sand to the base, build some layers of lighter blues to white for ice and snow? I'm going to try that approach and see what I get. Edited to make a coment on bases. Marshal Wilhelm
Imo, bases are like a picture frame for the mini. As this is Fantasy, and not a historical re-enactment game, you want the mini to be distinct from the base. Therefore, no same colour nor tone on the bases. I have used the style of basing that GW used on the Wolves for my Templar. The white snow and brown rims does not blur into my Black Marines. I was going to do white/yellow sand, but I ended up loving what GW had already done. A friend does excellent bases, much better than mine. Unfortunately, his bases are similar in colour to his Marines and Tau. From a distance, they are just a blue/grey blob. Why go to the trouble of painting a mini, only for it to be lost in the base? That is my take on it ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/233995-my-sons-wl/#findComment-2817131 Share on other sites

Check out Woodland Scenics, which seem to be available from all generalist hobby stores. I think it is for model trains. For example, I paid $17 for 500 grams of snow, yet GW wanted some $13 for 15 grams.... That works out to be 25 times more for the same amount. WHAT?!
