WIP IA - The Forgotten

Just doing a little brainstorming on a possible future loyalist DIY.... I've never played loyalist before. I read over the guide to DIY which says warp loss = bad yet i wanted a feeling kind of like Legion of the Damned yet with one goal, Capture fallen, Retreat to shadows.

IA – The Forgotten

Origins:

Founded from Lion El’johnson’s gene-seed during the 21st founding the chapter known as The Forgotten settled the planet Syrinx which was in a system neighbouring the then position of the rock and for the first few years everything was well and good and chapter life progressed as expected under the tutelage of the Dark Angels Envoys but after a few years the majority of the envoys left leaving only the first chapter master ________ and his top commanders. This is when it all went wrong as soon as the majority of the Dark Angels Envoys left, the planet became engulfed in a warp storm of unprecedented size which lasted a relatively short time in the scale of warp storms. When the storm subsided the Dark Angels envoys attempted to hail those who’d been left on the planet but neither their comrades nor the planet were detectable on any sensors. Assuming the chapter destroyed they proceeded back to the rock and notified imperial authorities who sent an Inquisitorial envoy to investigate who found nothing of note about the area where the planet had been. Since this date the chapter has been seen to appear somewhat randomly. Information concerning chapter is scarce at best.

Like the Dark Angels they must keep the secret of the fallen at any cost and therefore have at times attacked imperial forces especially those of prying Inquisitors.

It is difficult if not impossible to steer a planet caught in the warp and usually such planets will drift among the eddies and currents of the warp yet with experience the forgotten have observed the strange fact that those currents usually deposit their planet near where they are needed most. Members of the chapter’s librarium have theorized that it is the hand of their primarch Lion el’johnson himself guiding them from his slumber deep beneath the rock in the search for the fallen.

Normally a planet caught in the warp would quickly be deadly to the inhabitants yet somehow some unknown force projects a massive Gellar field around the planet shielding it from the majority of the damaging effects of the warp.

Gene-Seed:

no one knows what manner of experiments may have been conducted on the gene-seed of 21st founding chapters by the magus biologis and adeptus mechanicus and if there could be any connection between that and the inexplicable events that caused the forgotten home world of Syrinx to be sucked into the warp. The forgotten take this and the planets penchant for appearing guided to the fallen as a blessing from Johnson and the emperor.

The purity of the gene-seed has degraded due to long term exposure to the warp however the guardians of purity (chapter apothecarian) take great lengths to ensure that only the purest gene-seed is used when recruiting the local populace to slow the degradation.

Organization:

Due to the circumstances of their loss the chapter maintains few suits of Terminator armour, no Dreadnaughts and few vehicles the majority of which are drop pods. Aside from those they are primarily an infantry based army with a preference for plasma weaponry because of its similar unpredictability to their own warp based existence.

Fighting style:

The chapter emerges from the warp with one purpose to capture the fallen. They keep any fallen they capture imprisoned in their fortress monastery while they Interrogate them

Battle Cry

Homeworld

Syrinx was an agriworld which sent most of its produce to the neighbouring hive worlds its population were mainly farmers living in scattered rural settlements. The forgotten chose this as their homeworld due to its location in close proximity to the rock at the time and a need to ________________ they constructed a fortress monastery “______________” on the large northern continent which extends deep beneath the planet’s surface in a maze of tunnels in which they have built a large dungeon to hold the fallen they capture while they interrogate them.

In the time since the world has been sucked into the warp Little has changed for the general population except that they now live much longer than they would were the world in normal space as time flows differently in the warp

Changed fluff to allow small ammounts of termies because if they favour plasma heavily and have little vehicles I need anti tank punch and i think assault termies might be my only choise unless i take infiltrating melta scouts.

cool idea, sort of like non tainted fallen who are spectres of a damned legion.

The use of lost in the warp is bad when its like a story filler, however if you do a detailed explanation of the event of them getting lost in the warp / what happened in the warp to affect them / how it affected their chapter, combat doctrine, mutations, belief system .. it makes for a much more believable story.

Have you thought of using them as a dark founding instead? Maybe the Magos who was in charge of their founding decided that he would try to make a chapter who were impervious to normal ammunition. So he tried infusing them with warp matter, all seemed to go well until [insert period of time] had passed since they started their training on their homeworld. Something went wrong and the combined might of the chapters warp taint pulled themselves and their planet into the warp?

How about the reason for them drifting through reality oddly and no one remembering them could be due to that Necron Thing in the Grey Knight Codex that alters history.

In this case it pulled your Chapter Homeworld out of the universe almost completely and made it so that they never existed in the whole of history. No one remembers them because they never were.

They spend their time imprisoned in a places with no suns or stars or other worlds, just endless blackness in all direction extending for ever.

But sometimes they come back into a universe that never knew them and whilst their they try to continue as best they can whilst scavenging enough raw materials to keep the planet going next time it has to endure it's trial by isolation.

Ookay... a Chapter nobody knows about- plausible.

A problem I'm seeing here is the whole 'attacking both Imperial and non-Imperial targets' thing. The non-Imperium enemies are straightforward enough, but- why the Imperium? You say their goal is to capture the Fallen of the Dark Angels, so what agenda do they have beside that? Is it a revelation they had in the Warp, or something else? And what's more, how have the Inquisition not investigated them for attacking Imperial forces?

And- the High Lords of Terra declare foundings. The Adeptus Mechanicus don't do custom orders for Chapter Masters. If there's an especially good reason for why these guys were founded in the way that they were, please enlighten us.

How do these guys get access to vehicles and equipment, by the way, if their planet pops in and out of the warp? Furthermore, how does their world come out of the warp near the target- do they have some way to steer a planet through the Immaterium?

The concept works, but there's some stuff in the delivery that's a bit off.

I agree, on all your points except for the custom orders part. It is known Azriel asked for the Deciples of Caliban to be formed.

I have changed some of it since then, actually i was brainstorming in the pool yesterday so i havent written it down yet but it's comming.

Hmmm, skulked over here after the post in the DA forum.

Whole worlds going into the warp and staying together hasn't happened since the Eye of Terror erupted with the birth of Slaanesh. I can see an agriponics asteroid being used and thus it has similar properties to the Rock. Being an asteroid also allows it to follow fluff background of space hulks and ork roks.

I can see the envoy's setting up an Inner Circle before the the asteroid is consumed by the warp. Cypher's ability to call out the Fallen may also be attracting the chapter to them so that when they are in the warp, the course is always to a place that Cypher has spent a significant amount of time. This allows them to be good Fallen Hunters for there is a strong posibility one is left behind for whatever reason. Though those they find are never sent back to the Rock due to the planet/asteroid's inability to remain in normal space for extended periods before being pulled back into the warp.

Due to their inability to resupply, they must turn to piracy and scavenging for supplies. That should allow them to attack the Imperium out of desperation though they find it distasteful.

How's that for brain food?

I even register for this.

It is amazing how complete strangers can sometimes think very similar.

I myself have long time developing an order, which in many ways almost identical to your.

Geneseed, founding, name (Forgotten Sons)? and even some elements of a story...

But so also are the differences: сhapter is still loyal, the cause of mutations (chaos space marines leaded by fallen apothecarian attack), some battle companies are destroyed and the puritywing (rawenwing) - only company fighting the order, kept the absolute purity of gene-seed.

It's really amassing.

Wish you luck in you work.

Sorry for my English, could never fully understand your grammar.

soddinnutter, refers to malchadors spells having vanished titan into the warp alongside the first few greyknioghts and their recruits till the time of the end of the heresy, were titan reentered real space with a fully equiped and trained grey knights chapter.

Also it was Anaziel(a former chapter master)not Azrael who requested the formation of the DoT.So for whatever reasons the DA can custom build chapters it seems:Muaahhahhahahaha.

Ahem,Ever considered if your chapter has any links to the legion of the damned?
