warsmith
Hey all, This is the first model that I've put paint to in a couple of years. So far its been about 4 hours work and I think I'm ready to work on the base and back pack and call it done. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heldane/Word%20Bearers%202011/SAM_0186.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heldane/Word%20Bearers%202011/SAM_0185.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heldane/Word%20Bearers%202011/SAM_0184.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heldane/Word%20Bearers%202011/SAM_0183.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heldane/Word%20Bearers%202011/SAM_0182.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/heldane/Word%20Bearers%202011/SAM_0187.jpg Any glaring problems or errors that need fixing? Its been painted in 4 seperate sub assemblies and only put together now. Also, any suggestions what type of base is going to complement the paint scheme? Tyrannicide
I'm envious of that scarlet color, how'd you achieve it? And in regards to a basing scheme, I'd say something that's light. Maybe snow or a caked-desert base? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234035-word-bearers-test-model/#findComment-2817687 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Looks great! I agree with Darth, a light base would really work well with this guy. Nice job on the chaos runes as well. :cuss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234035-word-bearers-test-model/#findComment-2817702 Share on other sites
Zincite
Looking very nice so far! As for basing, I've always liked Desert Bases, and it might go well with that lovely shade of red. They're quite simple too, I use brown flock and then add a tuft of static grass. Looks good, but with no effort! subtlebrush
That is an incredible red you have there. Cant wait to see more marines in this scheme. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234035-word-bearers-test-model/#findComment-2817791 Share on other sites
Chaplain Hiltraud
As already mentioned, That is a FANTSTIC red! If you want to share the recipe, we're all listening (reading?) you know what I mean... The rest of the model is great also, you've used nice tones that not only brings out the red but blends with it nicely, the more I look at this model, the more I see. Looking forward to seeing more! warsmith
Thanks for the feedback guys, Doghouse, the runes are cuneiform and taken from an image I found online, they're not brilliant to be honest. I think going in with a colour that isn't pure black next time and a smaller brush (when I get one) will help. Darth Potato, Chaplain Hiltraud, The red is a little time consuming but very simple. I'll list the method below. Boltgun metal (2 - 3 thin coats) Highlight mix boltgun/chainmail (50/50) Highlight Chainmail coat armour in Vallejo Model Colour Transparent red (3 coats, watch out for pooling and allow coats to dry thoroughly before the next one) shade the armour with VMC transparent Red/Coat D'arms black ink (50/50 and waterered down a little) 2 coats of VMC transparent red/coat d'arms brown ink (50/50 and a little water) Its actually a very simple method, and having a hairdryer on standby will most definately help. I'm hoping that it will also work on vehicles aswell. One thing it does do is force you to be neat with the rest of the painting as its not easy to correct any mistakes! As for desert bases, that was an idea I had thought of. Now I'm sure a recent white dwarf had a very nice simple method of desert base, starting at calthan brown - yet I cant find it. Any suggestions? Regards Dan Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234035-word-bearers-test-model/#findComment-2818402 Share on other sites
