Termie Sanguinary Priests

Having just built enough SPs to allow 2 with JPs (3 inc. honour guard novitiate), and 2 with normal backpacks, I'm wondering whether it would be worth building one in TDA for those occasions when I field my Assault Termies in LR Crusader/Redeemer with TDA Reclusiarch/chaplain.

Any thoughts?

I actually have two Termie Priests, but most of the time it's unecessary. You only really need to bother if you're fielding Terminators on foot, so the Priest can't be easily torrented out of the squad.

(If you aren't lacking for space in your Raider and have 35pts to spare, it's not a lot more than a Power Weapon would be anyways and gives you some nice stuff, but it's not anywhere near required.)

Power weapon, deep strike option and 2+5++ is a very nice deal for 35 pts.

I've only used mine so far in ranged squads, terminators with FNP require some serious firepower to wipe out. Best thing about regular terminators is relentless. They don't need to clutter up the drop zone for other units and they never have to stop moving.

Is a Sanguinary Priest in TDA worth it? Let me think about this for a moment.. Hell yes it is.. Having an invulnerable save on an IC is such a SO worth it, especially when picked on in close combat.

I modelled mine from an TH/SS Assault Terminator a few parts from a servitor (The under arm narthecium and reductor), clipped off the head of the thunder hammer to put a power blade on, and used a hand/fist from the Sanguinary Guard box. If images are required they can be taken.

I would recommend everyone have atleast 1 termi Sanguinary priest.

Personally, I don't think Terminator Armor is worth it. Just spend the points for a power weapon and be done with it. There isn't enough of a bonus, in my opinion.

I've gotta agree with Nathan for if I already find priests expensive when upgraded with a jump pack if I'm going to pay more I might as well search for 20 more points and get cobulo's ability.

I don't think terminator armor has much benefit for the priest the bonus he gives works just as well in PA and by the time they're going to single the priest out in close combat it means they no longer see the terminator squad as enough of a threat.

Terminator comes with better save and built in deep striking ability. FC & FNP is great for all kinds of terminators and the larger base gives a slight boost on radius.

I personally will extol the benefits of TDA for Sanguinary Priests. Of the points to upgrade to TDA, 15 points would equate to the power weapon, the remaining points for the TDA. Is the remaining points worth it? The only shortfall, in my opinion, is that you don’t get a shooting attack with the SP in TDA. Ultimatly it's personal choice.

So in answer to the OP, if you feel that you have enough synergy to warrent a SP in TDA, give it a go. If it suits your style of play, give it a go. Only through trial and error will you find what works for you. If you do give it a go, I hope you will report back with your experiences.

I hope the discussion, both for and against has been useful.
