Brother-Captain Sharp
Wow, thanks for all the replies guys. The positive comments are really helping me stay motivated. I'm also glad to see that the yellow shade I went for has gone down well. dude. yes. really, yes. I can't wait to see that guy weathered -- what are your plans? Some dusting on the feet and moderate battle damage on the armor. I'll go for a little bit more worn of a metal look as well. Very nice work mate! He's coming along a treat. <_< As for the metal part on the weapon, chaos dreadnought weapon arm combined with a lascannon barrel and part of a speeder spotlight? the main part of that weapon is an old necron destroyer gun if im not mistaken with the aformentioned lascannon barrel and speeder light. not sure on the doodads on the end of the "hammer" though.. it looks like 2 of the same bit rather than 1 bit to me. *edit: the fists are interchangable for either arm side.. if you check forgeworlds site they have a blood angel one showing off fists on both arms. I'm impressed. Nicely spotted both. The hammer is made of a lascannon barrel, spotlight from the Ravenwing sprue, the gun off an old destroyer (the fact that you got that with no hints is very impressive), and two weapon brackets off the Ravenwing sprue. There are just a lot of great fiddly bitz you can pull off that sprue. love your yellow, and its quite refreshing to not see that neon yellow glow for once, I will say this though I REALLY would have done the under carriage metals first.. the contemptor is a pain in the ass if armor colors are done first! Yeah, I can definitely see that. It was just force of habit that had me paint the armor first. Well, you live and you learn. ;) I will be camping with my family for the next 3 days, so no updates. However, I will make sure to post plenty of Heresy Era goodness when I get back! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234084-heresy-era-imperial-fists/page/2/#findComment-2839581 Share on other sites
Brother-Captain Sharp
And you were definitely right, Khargan. The metals were a major pain. _________________________________________________________ I know it's not an exciting update, but the metals are done on the Contemptor. I went for a well-oiled and used look, but I don't know if it translates well in the pictures. In person, it's darker and has a slight brown tinge with a very, very slight tinting of green in deep recesses. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/c61155cf.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/5ea93af7.jpghttp://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/ab754df7.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/76daebc9.jpg The lighting situation is terrible on my kitchen table obviously. Pay no attention to the bright yellow. I had to over-saturate the area in light for my camera phone to take passable pictures. And here's my IF Pedro Kantor. Full Mark III, a power fist, and a spruced up bolter (there were no Storm Bolters in the Heresy, silly). Check, check, and check. Nothing fancy, but it works, and he'll be fun to paint with all that detail. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/f67f1ac9.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/52ffc397.jpg Comments and criticism welcome, as always! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234084-heresy-era-imperial-fists/page/2/#findComment-2843239 Share on other sites

fivepointedstar
cool Contemptor Dread convert! nice way to turn him into an ironclad. One idea you might do is paint caution strips at the feet, and fore arms cause hell I'd be warning fools not to mess with with this BAMF! fivepointedstar
and FYI there were Storm bolters in pre heresy it was just the bolter that had two firing ports in the front. simular to a up/ down style combi-bolter. edit: after I had stated the above then it came to me that there were only combi-bolters then. But since Kantor get 4 shots with the Arrow of Dorn I'd see not a problem to consider a SB as a twin-linked quad firing weapon. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234084-heresy-era-imperial-fists/page/2/#findComment-2843375 Share on other sites

RedMoon
dont forget to file that aquila off and the terminator honors. only the Emperors Children were allowed to use the eagle and terminator honors wernt used till after the heresy as they all are said to contain a small part of the emperors armor. I figure after the Emperors Children went traitor, that restriction might have been lifted. These are Heresy Era, not pre-Heresy. As for the Crux, good point. models look great.just a quick though how does the mk3 helmet fit with the company champion torso? any issues? cheers Company Champion? That's the Master of the Armory. And no problems getting the head on. damn, that contemptor looks incredible. and your pedro looks pretty sweet as well, and your grunts. keep it up, you're doing an awesome job. Thanks! :P I might swap out the weapon. Right now though, it'll stay. I'm just using the stats for Pedro. He's not actually supposed to be carrying Dorn's Arrow. KJB
On a scale of 1 - 10, how easy was the yellow using your recipe? I'm tempted to start my own fists... Brother-Captain Sharp
On a scale of 1 - 10, how easy was the yellow using your recipe? I'm tempted to start my own fists... Hmmm... 6 or 7. It's still an annoying color, but not really that bad. And do it! Fists are awesome! :) ____________________________________________ Here are some models I built tonight. A full squad of Mark 5. Seeing as how MkV is less advanced and durable than MarkIV, I figured Imperial Fists would try and counteract this by placing the armor in a squad that would not see much direct damage and have less strain on the systems. So a Devastator squad it was. :) http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/3f3f614a.jpg The Rocket Launchers (That sounds like a band name. "Now playing at the Imperial Palace" ;) ). Curse FW for not including a special backpack. I had to chop down a Mark 5/6 backpack. Bolter carriers and Sergeant. I had a lot of fun making these guys. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/5e8903b9.jpg Also, I built my second Sternguard Sergeant. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/e20fe385.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/93d34b8c.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/79640505.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/44e16005.jpg A stylish shoulder cape, and of course his Bolter and Powerfist. He was a lot of fun to build as well. And this was totally an accident, but made me chuckle. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/217f74c3.jpg They're twins! ;) No painting tonight. These models took a frustratingly long amount of time to build. Brother-Captain Sharp
Well time for an anemic update. Other projects and IRL stuff have slowed down my Imperial Fists, but it's time to get back to it. I've done just a little bit of detailing on the Contemptor. Tell me what you guys think. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/80dc4e98-1.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/e126dbcc-1.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj236/sesharp/d20fd719-1.jpg Comments and criticism welcome, as always. Brother Pheidias
Hey, these are really nice, how'd they fail to register on my radar?!? Anyway, that hammer on the Dread is one of the better implementations of an armed Dreadnought that I've seen, most of the others looks a little unfeasable, but this one really works. Is the base done, or is it getting another highlight? Seems a little dull to me right now. The Captain and Sarge is a happy accident, it tends to happen every once in a while for me as well. Master of Asgard
I saw the dread on the first page and throughout my mind echoed one word: "Sick". Very nice to see such commitment and thought to the Heresy era, I bet Forge World like you! Tybrus
If you care the traditional vet colors are yellow helm with a red stripe. Add a red skull for Sgt status. Again this is only if you want to stay traditional. The dread itself looks awesome! Redfinger
These IF's look nice, though I am not particularly fond of the yellow you are using, it is a little too brown for me, but the application of it is still very nice. That contemptor as a model is just sexy....I am reeeeaaallly thinking about buying one and using it as a "count as" dread in my own IF army.
