Question on rhinos, wreakage, LOS and other details.

I have the basic strategy for a Sisters mechanized list down ... I think. In a nut shell, fly out to the middle of the board, hop out of the tanks, line up and rapid fire. Flame/melta anything that gets close.

But after that, I'm kind of stuck. I usually blow away a big part of the opposition, but then they whittle me down or pull up a vehicle that my two or three meltas I do get on them can not reliably penetrate (I hate bjorn felhand) and then from turn 4 to 5/6 it's just hope I have enough faith to survive the hand to hand pummeling I am about to get. So I need to keep a little distance if possible for 1 more turn, two would be fantastic.

Now I know this is going to sound silly but I want to be sure what I can do before I start doing things on the table in front of the guys ... If I deploy out of the rhino but towards my side of the board so the rhino is between the squad and the enemy, can I shoot through my rhino? How about if it is smoked?

I saw at WAR game con in Austin someone had like the bottom part of a tank on a base they could set out when it was destroyed. This not only looked cool, but it lowered the level of the rhino so I could use true LOS and see over it. Plus showing where rough terrain would be. Is this modeling for advantage? I guess if I could shoot through my rhino (above) there would be no advantage from the model and the question is kind of moot.

And finally, when I try to back up over a burning lump of rhino, I can never seem to get a high enough difficult terrain role to make it across. Is it OK to have the squad standing ON the tank model for a turn and complete the move on my next movement phase?

Sorry if this is all noobish; I am still new to playing and I want to at least hold my own and look like I know what I am doing.

No, you can never see or shoot throught your own rhino as long as it is alive.

If the vehicle becomes wrecked, you should leave it on the table, possibly removing the turret or similar, and from then on count it as a piece of dangerous terrain. You can end your move on top of the hull.

If the vehicle becomes destroyed, you replace it with a crater. If you want, you can have vehicle parts on this crater, possibly granting you cover save. But remember, the crater is already area terrain. If you don't have a crater, you still have to remove the vehicle from the board.

In terms of strategy.. you don't just want to advance forward into range without a purpose. The goal is to apply all of your force (an overwhelming force) against a weak exposed part of the enemy and annihilate it without possible retribution. The enemy moves their army to react, and you again apply an overwhelming force against a small portion of their army. It's all about chosing your targets and not fighting fair. Throw 1200 points of firepower against 200 or 300 points of target. Destroy it, then relocate and annihilate another portion of the enemy force. In a war of attrition the Sisters will lose, so whittle their numbers down and keep your mind on the objectives :P
Technically no as wrecked still should obscure LoS and be terrain. I'd recommend placing a marker of smoke or something (fluff of cotton) or a piece of paper with a note on the model if they don't want to turn the model upside down :P
