gettothegone
I have a 5 man squad of GK Terms. One of them has a rod. A warlock appears. A warlock uses disintegrator... a) Its super effective? b) It has no effect? Discuss. thade
If this is a serious post (I assume it is) I'm afraid I'll need a bit more info. What is a "warlock" (I'm guessing it's Dark Eldar?) and what's the statline/effects chart on a "disintegrator"? gettothegone
Serious A warlock would be like a jetlock with say a farseer that uses a S5/AP4 template. The argument is that the template attack is a psychic attack, but does not require psychic test. The rod *and I'm going from a brief reading here* protects the squad from being a target of psychic attacks. If I read this wrong, please let me know. But would that null that attack? I'm like THIS close to buying a whole world of GK models, and I'm just reading up and getting info before I make the jump. DantonTH
What is Rod? You mean Null Rod from the daemonhunters codex? How they got null rod anyway if so? If there is something I don't understand I must beg you pardon. If you mean Null rod; I would say Disintegrator does not work as it is psychic attack anyway. dswanick
Warlock PowersDestructor : Destructor is used in the shooting phase instead of firing a weapon. It works out like a normal shooting attack with the folowing profile: Range : Template S : 5 AP : 4 Assault 1 Null Rod : {{snip}} Furthermore, the bearer (and his squad) cannot be affected by psychic powers (friendly or enemy) in any way. Destructor has no effect. That said, a Grey Knight Terminator squad may not take a Null Rod. thade
One of the inquisitors can I assume thats what he ment. That had been my assumption as well; however the clarification did bear mentioning. Inquisitor Fox
Regardless of the presence of a psychic test, it is a psychic power. A null rod (usually the province of an Inquisitor alone now) nullifies psychic powers. It's fairly cut and dry  You cannot use a psychic hood to nullify the power, as there is no psychic test, however a null rod works just fine (assuming the bearer of the null rod has joined the Grey Knight Terminators). thade
Not sure I'd want a Null Rod with the terminators...unless I knew I was going up against Eldar. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234156-hot-rod/#findComment-2819870 Share on other sites
gettothegone
I think I may be reading it wrong and thus the confusion. Mind you.. you've clarified both for me so all is good. Warding Stave is what I was thinking about... and this is completely different from a Null Rod. Thanks :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234156-hot-rod/#findComment-2819886 Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
That's correct, a Warding Staff / Stave would only function if the bearer was engaged in close combat (which they would not be from a Destructor power from an Eldar Warlock). However in that instance the bearer's armor save would suffice. A warding staff / stave would not help against say, a plasma gun or meltagun, as those are shooting attacks. It would help against a power weapon, power fist or thunder hammer as those are close combat attacks. It likewise would help against Monstrous Creatures. It helps against wounds from a failed perils test if the bearer of the staff / stave is engaged in close combat at the time of the test. Otherwise it bestows no additional psychic protection. gettothegone
Right, as I was skimming through the Codex last night I confused the Null Rod with a Warding Stave. Then thought.... you could put one in each group...... Then thought how awesome that would be with all the psy type players here. :P Just got ahead of myself. jeffersonian000
Aegis should still work against the attack, with or without an Inquisitor w/ Null Rod. SJ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234156-hot-rod/#findComment-2820168 Share on other sites
Something Wycked
Aegis should still work against the attack, with or without an Inquisitor w/ Null Rod. And be doubly effective (quadruple, really) if they're in range of a Dreadnought. Yummy psychic defenses we have. Hiro_Protagonist
Aegis wouldn't do anything. No Psychic test for Destructor, so who cares if you've got a Ld penalty? Hackbar
That's correct, a Warding Staff / Stave would only function if the bearer was engaged in close combat (which they would not be from a Destructor power from an Eldar Warlock). It helps against wounds from a failed perils test if the bearer of the staff / stave is engaged in close combat at the time of the test. Otherwise it bestows no additional psychic protection. Just a trivial side note, but depending on how you read the FAQ I think the warding staff save could also be applied to any Low AP blasts that happen to scatter onto your unit, so long as it is in combat.
