I've been a long time collector of miniatures, but never played a single game and not done much painting for ages. Trying to return to the hobby after many, many moons! :P Just finished modelling the first two chars for the SM chapter. Let me know what you think and any pointers for chapter creation/40K in general. Thanks! Rooster Posted July 16, 2011 Author Share Posted July 16, 2011 Thanks for replies already :rolleyes: I have been busily making some banners etc and have come up with names for the chapter master and 1st company captain.  Chapter Master Lazarus Varne Captain Ursan "The Old Bear" Lothar  I thought i'd use this tiger-ish symbol i found and have a transfer sheet or two for. I have had a brainwave (which is rare!) about the homeworld name: Tundren, i thought this sounded cold, maybe an Ice-world, like Hoth from Star Wars with white tigers/bears etc. Just ideas atm. I am keen to challenge myself to paint them white possibly, i've been told this takes skill to paint white armour etc. I have to try, right? :lol:  Thanks for feedback, greatly appreciated. Rooster Posted July 16, 2011 Author Share Posted July 16, 2011 I see your thinking behind your thoughts Kayesh, but the SW are changed Geneseed/lycanthropic metamorphic marine types. I take your point and i'll have to be careful for sure. I was thinking of the homeworld and what animals may live in that environment only. They would be "normal" marines with no such drastic geneseed changes. From the banners (without realising) i have kinda got the colours sky blue and white, a brighter difference than Space Wolves grey/blue grungy colour scheme. Being actively different from space wolves will have to be at the forefront of my development. Thanks Kayesh :lol: My brain is working overtime now..haha. It is just a tester for the actual scheme... it looks quite dirty i guess. As far as them becoming too close to Space Wolves, just watch how far they deviate from the Codex Astartes AND keep away from a grey color scheme (which you seem to be doing) and you should be fine. I'd also say to keep the Space Wolf parts down as well but you seem to be doing a very good job with that as well <_< Are you going for an Ice-Tiger theme or an Ice-Bear theme? Brother_Fatiswon Posted July 16, 2011 Share Posted July 16, 2011 i'm sure another will say, that your colors are going to look like Pre heresy World eaters: this could be fix by using these colors but maybe follow the patterns of the Flesh terrors (SP?) blue helms, back packs, and shoulder pads, with all the rest white. Kayesh Posted July 16, 2011 Share Posted July 16, 2011 i agree with Mr M. on the colour scheme very nice, i think the parts you're using will serve to differentiate them from PH World Eaters  are you using the book as a recurring image on some other characters ? it might be a good recurring theme, maybe having them as a very scholarly chapter, tucked away in a foreboding monastery like base on a mountain range on a desolate icy world, would give enough of a twist to seperate them from the feral bear/tiger aspect of them. maybe have them protecting some obscure "thing"  as for a name if you go for something like the above could have Defenders of... or Protectors of... something or other ! Â But in reality, I think The Maulers would be a good name for your chapter. Too many flimsy Angels of many types nowadays, a good brutal chapter name is where it's at! I have to say now that I look over it you might want to add a bit more blue like Brother_Fatiswon suggested, just to save yourself from everyone going "Hey nice Pre-Heresy World Eaters" haha. I would definitely mimic the Flesh Tearers scheme but with your chosen colors. I also agree with Mr. Bleak on naming them The Maulers, even though your going for a Tiger theme. Background and such? haha. The fact of the colour scheme looking like PH world eaters, i had no idea. ;( But, i think it is slightly different imo, no blue backpack, buckle etc.  As Mr Bleak suggested with the "meaty fist" of the emperor idea, i think they should be quite brutal...being on an ice world, they have to be right? No Snowflake Angels and such here, me thinks! :cuss  I'll get to writing some vague background at least for the two chars i have already. I only really started yesterday and all that have help so far, thank you.  (Not quite sure about the The Feisty Badgers, but thanks anyway Brother Styphus!) Svell Bjarndýrs    At first with the runic termy armor from scibor, thought space wolves theme, maybe a viking clan or raiders or norse mythology type stuff... but then you came up with the bear and tiger banners and tundra ice stuff... so I though maybe finnish or russian slav warriors or those they fought like the khanates... but their history is rather lackluster being unfairly eclipsed by the other super powers of their time... And also because they lack any western recognizable tribal names that kick ass.  Norse names kick ass. I'd say keep the ice and tigers and bears, but instead of going russian, go scandinavian and embrace a norse name or such. Norse names kick so much ass. Combine that with a Codex SM chapter to be different from Space Wolves, or hell just go tiger wolves and bears and use the space wolves codex to kick even more ass. Rooster Posted October 24, 2011 Author Share Posted October 24, 2011 So, long time since update, but have finally moved house and settled etc. I have now started to paint my first tactical squad in my "custom" colour scheme and have had to dip them twice already. My painting is rather poor at best, so any tips on painting white armour would be GREATLY appreciated. For now here are my newly scratch built turrets for my two rhinos/razorbacks. I tried the turret with the tanks on the inside and guns on outside of the casing and one huge casing for it all, but it didn't seem to look right. It took me a long time to get it to look/feel correct to me. Also, i didn't mention before, the turrets "look" up and down and swivel 360 degrees.
