help against BA

Recommended Posts

hi, i am quite new to the game. that is, ive been painting for a good while, but me and some buddys started playing on a regular basis, about a year ago.

we have only played smaller games of about 500 to 1000 points.(so that might be some of the reason for the imbalance)

anyhow, one of the guys plays BA. and i thought i would violate him with my initiative 6,halebard toting grey knights. but to my surprise, in cometh a storm raven. which hides; keeps out of sight untill it can charge ahead and drop of; the death company dreadnought for the assault

...we played annihalation.and thats just what i got.

how do i best counter this, seemingly, unbalanced CC killing machine, without spec'ing my army so bad,it cant fight other armies? (like the dark eldar,my other nemesis)?

crossed fingers for any help out there.

It's a tough one, but having a Daemonhammer in the squads will help a great deal (remember, Hammerhand brings it to a hefty S10). To keep it alive, I recommend having a Warding Stave in the squad to help mitigate casualties from it's Blood Talons, hence lowering the amount of attacks it gets against you (hence your hammer may live long enough to strike back). With a full squad of 10 Knights, you should be able to survive, but be prepared for heavy casualties.

This will sound cliche, but Psyrifleman Dreadnoughts will be the best shot you have at bringing the Storm Raven down, and then Psycannons can take care of the DC Dread when it starts to footslog too close.

Hope this helps

Another tactic you can deploy is Librarian with might of Titan acting inside a halberd equiped squad, keep still one of two daemonhammers. I6 S5-7 2d6 Armour penetration should take care of those dreads before they can uses their talons.

I played many games against Blood Angels, from standard missions to IA Boarding assualt mission, and my GK gained easily victories. Death company caused some losses but in the end I wiped out BA in many occassions.

This is how I dealt with DC Dreads:

1. Psycannons: they can tear Dreads armour apart.

2. Psybolt Dreads: simple and clear.

3. Librarian's warp rift: yes you read right. I destroyed two dreads with it. Very useful, especially if your psycannons or Dreads immobilized them.

4. Multi-Melta Dreads. Remember DC dreads have only a meltagun, thus half of range.

5. Doom fist dreads in CC. DC dreads have serious problems with AV. Even if they charge they need a 5 to glance a dread.

6. Librarian with might of Titan, as metioned above.

Deamonhammer is supremely qualified to deal with dread but you want to prevent the talons from decimating your units.

A note about Stormravens: BA is not the only army that can field them. GK have them too. Beside ours are even better since they can ignore stunned/shaken effects: this means you will probably shot more than his stormravens will do, allowing you to remove the threat they pose to your army.

I didn't even think of Might of Titan on Halberds. Top-shelf thinking!

Thank You. :D

Since you can cast Might of Titan in your own phase consider to use Sanctuary to prevent the dreads to assault your own unit. It's always frustratiting to fail a charge due to difficult terrain test, especially for a CC oriented army like BA. Beside your opponent will have 1 out 6 chances to immobilize his own dread due to dangerous terrain test.

Paladins, with their advantages and drawbacks, can stop the proliferation of Talon generated attacks. A warding stave and few swords can help you to reduce the number of inflicted wounds. Beside wounds allocation can prevent the death of several models. A Paladin/Librarian squad is very expensive though. If you can charge and not be charged any halberds equiped unit can work with Might of Titan.

Sanctuary and Might of Titan: that's the best combo for this tactic.
