billga
I was wondering what others in the community felt about the ability to just ignore melta/razor/MSU spam Meta by trying to saturate the board with a massive number of high armor value targets? I trying to come up with a relatively different Blood Angel list that may be able to surprise people and get a better than expected showing (hopefully top five type range versus good competition). Thinking something along the lines of: Meph Storm Raven (LC, MM) Storm Raven (LC, MM) 5 Tactical Squads - 5 man w/ Landraider (+MM) 2 Attack Bikes (MM) I will probably be facing Blood Angel (DoA, Mech), Space Wolves (Razor/LF spam) and seevral well run Leafblower style Guard armies as top competitors at venue. Would also love to here any other crazy 2,500 lists that people think would have a decent shot at making a good showing.
billga
Sorry, just checked out the Army list section and it looks like a couple of people have posted very similar list ideas.
Bradley Powers
I am planning on running counter to meta. My list (for which I am building models right now) looks like this: HQ: Dante Mephy Elites: Chaplain, JP Furioso Dreadnought, Frag Cannon Troops: 10 DC, no JPs, Lemartes DC Dreadnought DC Dreadnought Sanguinary Guard, 5 Infernus Pistols, Chapter Banner Sanguinary Guard, 4 Infernus Pistols Heavy Support: Stormraven, Extra Armour Stormraven, Extra Armour Stormraven, Extra Armour I have tested it out against most of the folks who will be plyaing at my local store, and the list did well, so I'm excited. It'd be a big deal for me to even make it past the first round...
billga
Looks like it would be a blast to play, good luck to you ;)
billga
My second idea now that I have Codex in front of me would be: Meph Librarian (fear, Shield) Storm Raven (LC, MM) Storm Raven (LC, MM) 5 RAS - 5 man w/ Landraider Furioso (flamer) in a DP And just think, Mephiston may not even be number 1 priority once he is out of his transport ;) :D :) :) :) :)

billga
Wouldn't be Ard boys Legal but I once fielded all 9 Land Raiders we have in the house at 3,000 ;)
AbusePuppy
FYI, Stormravens aren't really "hard targets," but whatever floats your boat, I suppose. You could actually field... hrm, seven Land Raiders? There's enough points for eight, but since you can only take them as Dedicated Transports, you can't fit the last one in. Would be hilarious, but kinda terrible, because Meltaguns would wreck your sh*t pretty badly.
billga
Testing the second list vs lance/venom spam DE and mech vet (he should have on the order of 20 meltas + all the usually IG toys) we're building to see if it can survive. Like I said in original post though, I know this list can't win everything, I'm just looking for something people look at and say :)!!! I'd be happy with a 2-1-0 or 1-0-2 and a top 5-10 placement with this style of list (field will probably be 32 ppl).
thade
In answer to the original question: No. Can you build a non-meta'd list and expect to compete at Ard Boyz? Yes, this is possible. Can you build any type of list without taking into account other lists which are meta'd (which you'll have to combat)? No, you cannot do this and expect to perform well. You really need to take into consideration the kinds of lists you will have to throw down with when building your own list.
Morticon
Working within your theory, i'd suggest the following (reasons after) Mephiston Librarian (Shield, Rage) Corbulo 7 Assault Terms - 4 Hammers Raider Crusader 5 RAS Raider 5 RAS - MG Raider 5 RAS - MG Raider 5 RAS - MG Raider Redeemer Raven - EA. You're down a Raven and some bikes, but you're up on a true hammer unit, which you are likely to need in a Ard Boys situation. You also have the libby to make that hammer even more insane. If you dont feel you need the 5++ and the Rage on terms, then you can go for the MM bikers. I feel this would work better than your list though, as it has more tactical options, though admittedly, less firepower. Thoughts?
