Hi everone

 

During the weekend there was the Throne of Skulls July tournament in Warhammer World. A weekend of five games of 1500pts, battle it out in the HQ of Games Workshop, which is a place all hobbiest should go to that least once in there hobby life.

 

Here my account of my Space Wolves games from the weekend & overall experince of the tournament ;)

I remember as many had foreseen, a great evil descending on Asgard VII Prime. Those that once knew peace now knew only war. With their homes destroyed by the foes of the Imperial, hope faded & the population were led into the shadow of despair. Asgard VII Prime was left defenceless.

But there was salvation, a light in these darkest times. They arrived from the sky, those warriors of the mighty Space Wolves, warriors who can set fear into the very heart of evil.

We fought, we fought for our dead, we fought for the very earth we stood upon, we spilt their blood, and we fought for the Imperial, for Russ & the All Father.

We may be few & our enemies many, yet so long as there remains one of us still fighting, one who still rages in the name of justice & truth, then by the All Father, Asgard VII Prime shall yet know hope.

Saga of Asgard VII Prime by Dreadnought, Rothgar the Wolf Guard & Skald of the 5th Great Company.

 

The planet, Asgard VII Prime has held many secrets, even during the time of the Great Crusade when Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves first set foot on it,

Nevertheless like so many things since those times, they have been forgotten, lost in the mist of history & legends over the millennium.

 

However it is such legends that will keep people searching & hunting for the mysteries Asgard VII Prime holds, until out of nowhere the shadow of despair takes over these dark times.

 

When Asgard VII Prime was attacked by all the foes of the Imperial it was the Space Wolves 5th Great Company that was sent in as the only hope the planet had to survive.

Leonidas Buliwyf, Wolf Lord of the 5th Great Company, had sent a small strike force, the Gate of Morkai Strike Force led by Rune Priest Dilios Gunnar to investigate what threat the planet Asgard VII Prime was faced with. They started their campaign on Asgard VII Prime to bring the light of hope back to the darkened world. & to find out what mystery or relic was drawing all the enemies of mankind to the planet.

 

The 5th Great Company was an incredibly mobile battle force, able to reach threatened zones swiftly. The array of purity seals, trophies & runes adorning the vehicles, Dreadnoughts & power armour of the Space Marines showed the experience & resolve of the 5th Great Company over many successful campaigns. Meanwhile the Long Fangs, wise in their years, acted as the eyes & ears for the Strike force, able to go off into their pack hunts ahead of the armour strike force.

 

In honour of Morkai, the Wolf who guarded the gate of death, all of the Space Wolves in this strike force have painted their helmet black. For they would rather die to the last, than let this world fall & let whatever its mystery is, fall into the hands of the enemies of mankind.

 

Since arriving upon the soil of Asgard VII Prime, Rune Priest Dilios had noticed that there was a strange energy drawing the foes of the Imperial to the planet. Many races were drawn toward this world all seeking to claim the relic of this planet; from the barbaric Orks who only lust for war, the twisted Dark Eldar always looking for slave & game, Eldar who are untrustworthy, Tyranids who only wanted to consume everything in front them to the corrupted servants of Chaos who sought revenge on those they once served.

 

It seemed there was some form of secret hidden on the planet. There was so much more to the world than the average eye was allowed to see. Some say this secret had been there since the days of the Great Crusade when the mighty Emperor of Mankind walked the earth, a relic that cannot fall into the foe of the Imperial. While others say there is a nameless evil resting in the world of Asgard VII Prime, a terrible being, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. Nothing could stop it or hold it or reason with it. They said that Leman Russ himself had secret runes to bind this great evil being. One day it would just drop out of the sky & tear down your world as legend would say, among many other "legends".

 

One thing is certain; the Space Wolves have allies in this darkest time.

 

Rune Priest Dilios had sent Squad Hrolf to scout ahead of the main force. During their scout mission, squad Hrolf were ambushed, their Rhino transport destroyed & they were badly wounded. When the Space Wolves strike force arrived, Dilios saw that the unit of Grey Hunter were saved by fellow Space Marines. Their armour was as Black as the void; their armour was covered in the flames of Redemption & the bones of Vengeance. Bullets seemed to pass through these mysterious Space Marines. Once the enemies of mankind where slaughtered; the Black Space Marines vanished as though they had never been there in the first place.

Rune Priest Dilios had heard many stories. He knew these Space Marines were to be called Legion of the Damned, rumoured to be from the Fire Hawks Chapter, who went missing in the Warp….

 

When I go to the Throne of Skulls events I alway aim to be down there for the Fri afternoon to get a few practise games & due to travel from Scotland. This time I would be travel down by myself (well with family due to wanting meet with family who live out side Nottingham) which has not happen since 2004. So I contact my friend Paul Scott & ask if he would be up for a few games on the Fri afternoon so I could get some practise games.

Practise game 1 - Thunder from Fenris

Mission Kill points, pitch battle

Army - 2x Daemon Prince, Greater Daemon, 3 unit of Death Guards?, Terminators, Rhinos & 2x Vindicators

Loss

 

After getting the train from Edinbrugh down to Nottingham. It was time to quickly book into the hotel & then get into Warhammer World & grab some launch, where I would bump into Paul Scott in Bugman Bar waiting on myself.

 

Overall this was a very blood battle. Space Wolves where getting caught in the mist of the battle rage, letting the Wulfen take over & control them, as the slaughter Nurgle Marines. But sadily the resiliance of the Nurgle Marines blunted my Space Wolves assault & the tide went against them.

 

Wolf brothers where being slaughter, many Grey Hunter pack going down to one model, these Lone Wolves charge into the hoard of Nurgle Marines to make there end worthy of a saga in the name of Leman Russ & the Allfather.

 

In the end I loss. I can't rememeber the kill points score that the end. But I did learn a lot from this game & was great game.

After the practise game & not so many people in Warhammer World during that time. Me & Paul went for another practise game & since we where unsure the next time be able to get another game in the future. I also bought some new dice after this game for ToS July after a few of my rolling :devil:

Practise game 2 - I will make my end worthy of a saga!!!!!!!!!!

Mission - d3+2 Object, Dawn of War set up

Loss

 

After the first game, me & Paul got ready for a second practise game. Just played Kpts, we agree that we'd leave that out when roll for our second mission. I also pick up some brand new dice which help me during ToS July as well ;)

 

I really enjoyed this game. After learn from the last game it was time to try pick my targets, try to not let the Nurgle Marines resiliance (sp) slow down my spearhead assault.

 

But with this, Paul counter me, bring down the drilled Bolter fire disapline which seem to be well know with the Death Guards. Open up my tanks & then assault my units inside.

 

There was one epic moment in the game when my Rhino got destroyed & my Rhino mounted unit took heavy loss when trying to take out Paul Greater Daemon. Then this was follow by bombarment of Vindcators & rapid fire bolter/Plasma guns. It resulted in me having three models, my Rune Priest, Power Weapon arm Grey Hunter & my Mark of Wulfen Grey Hunter. Sadily the Rune Priest on one wound, ended up fail his psychic test on double 1 :devil: With two Grey Hunter left from this unit & a unit of Death Guards looking that them.

It was time for these two Grey Hunter to give there pray to Leman Russ & the Allfather. To charge head in to these foul Nurgle Chaos Marines & make there end worth of a saga.

The Power Weapon Grey Hunter got killed due to the power fist. But for two turns (3 round of combat) my Mark of Wulfen went bezerker, rolling 6's for the amount of attacks he was to get, made over 8 armour saves during those phase. He also taken the 7 strong Nurgle unit down to just the Champion with Power Fist, as he rended the rest of the unit in those combat. While the Power Fist champion failed, until that third combat phase, taken down this might Grey Hunter.

 

Truly a epic scene that was worth of a saga.

After the practise game. It was time for me to sign in for Throne of Skulls July & hand over a copy of my army list. Then it was time to get some food, then head back to the hotel & get ready for the weekend ahead.

Day 1 of Throne of Skulls July

 

Round 1 - No retreat, no surrender

Oppent - Chris

Mission - One Object each, Spearhead set up

Army list - Big Mek, 2x 20 orks Boyz, Kommando's with specil ch, 2x Trukks with orks Nobz, Deff Dread, 2x Killer Kans, 10 Grots

Loss

 

The start of day one & I would be on table No7 battle Chris & his Orks. Chris is friends with James, who I fought in ToS April, as well as 40k doubles a long with his brother.

 

Upon seeing it would be Orks, I knew this would be a good battle. I like getting into close combat, beat the oppent army up. It why I like 5th ed in term you no longer need to worry about 50% for scoring. As well as 4th ed, it was great but people hide when hitting that 50% mark & Vpts reasons.

 

Like my game vs Paul Scott, there was another epic moment when my Wolf Guard Rethel mange to hold his own vs a unit of Orks Nobz & a unit of 20 Orks Boyz. For those who do not know Rethel saga, he is well know for taken on the odds, make the best armour saves like the time I fought my friend Graham with 16 armour saves & only fail two on this Wolf Guard, Rethel.

 

In the end the Orks weight of number got to my Space Wolves & was taken heavy loss & I loss the game.

 

I made one mistake, my Heavy Bolter Razorback mounted Razorback unit should maybe have stay in until turn 5. Just I brought them out on turn 4 to take on the Ork Kommando's & then was going

But end of the day this is what I like about the game is learing & Chris was a brillaint oppent. I really like his use of old school 2nd ed Orks in the army as well as the old Night Goblin mulit part kits & overall I really enjoyed this game due to it two combat armies beat each other up & made for great many sagas for my own Space Wolves :D

After launch it was time to get our armies ready for round 2 for Day 1.

 

Round 2 - "Fire and Blood"

Mission - Kill points, Dawn of War set up

Army - Lysander, 2x unit of Thunder Hammer Terminators, Land Raider, two five man Combat squads in Razorbacks, Scouts, two Vindcators

Win

 

First thanks Colin for the lift to Warhammer World on the Sunday.

 

Another blood game with both armies in combat. Though I rarely fought Thunder Hammer Terminators, I know the amount of damnge they can cause in close combat with those nice Storm Shields & thunder hammers. For this I keep my army together, trying to cause as many wounds as possible, so it would be more armour saves. My friends have a saying for myself, "fire a lascannon that me I will make my Inv/Cover save, but rapid fire as many Lasguns & I will fail my save".

 

It was really cool. My Space Wolves swarm over Lysander & the unit of Thunder Hammer Terminators he was with, along with Odin the Dreadnought for support.

 

In the end I won by 7 Kill points vs 3 Kill points. Was a great game & I really like Colin Space Marine army, some nice conversion like his Lysander, also the colour/paint scheme work really well together the red & the blue.

With round 2 over, it was time for a quick break & get ready for round 3.

After the quick break, it was time for the finial round for Day 1 of Throne of Skulls July.

 

Round 3 - Dead Men Walking

Oppent Giorgio Bernard

Mission d3+2 Objects (4), Pitch Battle

Army list: Command squad, Platoon 30 Strong + Command, 2x Veteran units, one in Chimera, Vendetta Gunship, 2x 2 Armour Sentinel, 2x Hydra Tanks, Leman Russ Demolisher

Draw, one object each & another contested.

 

Giorgio let me go first for this mission & then mange to steel first turn, there was a lot of fire power heading my way :)

 

I got to say this was a very tigh game, really greay how it was on the balance. All my transport where taken out from the start to turn 3, from immobile or destroyed & I'd have to quickly get my Space Wolves on the move to get those objects, while my Rune Priest would use Living Lighting for fire support.

 

In the end Giorgio has his Platoon hold a object to the far right of me. While I held one on my side of the table. While to my left I had a unit of Grey hunter from my Lascannon Razorback & what remain of my Rhino mounted unit with Rune Priest, while Giorgio had one of the armour sentinal's contesting. Mange to immobile this with a Melta gun shot from my Las Razorback unit GH. But sadily when going into close combat, it seel the Emperor protected the armour walker as I could not get though the armour hull, even with my Power Fist which epic failed :D

 

It was a very tigh game & looking back. If it went on for another turn, ended turn 5. There was a Leman Russ kicking about & there only so many armour save you can make, just with the other stuff like the Hydra. I mange to take out the vendetta & the Veteran inside earily in the game.

While the Veteran in the Chimera, taken them to five models, they fleed, but if it went onto turn 6, would have rally & I think get with in range of the one object that no one had on turn 5.

While for myself, could have possible gotten the Sentinal rip apart if it went onto another turn & who know how my Rhino mounted unit could have went.

 

It really good to look back that games & think "what if" & just to help you learn. This was another brillaint game & a good way to finish off the first day of Throne of Skulls July day 1 for me. Three brillaint games & with a loss, win, draw. I was left mental tired.

With day 1 of ToS July done, it was time to get dinner & then back to the hotel to rest & get ready for Day 2!!

So onto Day 2 of Throne of Skulls July.

 

Had the most terrible night that the hotel. Got woken up that 2am thanks to some :cuss: group of drunk people, they spent a hour hitting there own hotel room door & shounting loud.

There a reason why I have a low tolerance toward set type of people. Thanks to this it ment on Sunday/yesterday by the time I arrive back home I was awake for 23 & a half hours :)

So was not to happy about this as I found it hard to get back to sleep.

 

Anyway onto day 2.

 

I found out I would be on table 23 & against Daemons. I was told on the Sat that this was a all Slannesh daemon force with more rending than you can shake a stick that.

 

Round 4 - tonight we dine in hell!

Oppent - David

Mission d3+ 2 Objects (3), Spear head set up

Army - 3x Heralds on Chariots (sp?), 2x unit of 6 Feinds..??, two unit of Slannesh Troop chose & two Soul Grinders

Loss

 

Last time I fought Daemons was during Throne of Skulls Nov, both games where bloody & both armies very low on the number count.

 

For his first wave, it included the Soul Ginder & a unit of Slannesh troop chose Daemons, maybe a few other things. My plan was to try take out as much as possible asap before the other units would start dropping in & the units already deep strike could assault the follow turn.

 

I mange to take out both Soul Grinder on my turn 1 with a few place Melta Shots & mange to cause some wounds on the units already down. But by turn 2 majority of David army was down & units where starting to move quick to get there assault.

 

After this my aim was to move as fast as possible, try to pick off target but soon the Slannesh Daemons fleet abilty got them up to the same speed as me. With so much rending, the open up on tanks & slaughter the Space Wolves inside. But they did not die with out a fight as my Space Wolves took a heavy toll on the Slannesh Daemons, slaughter as many as possible.

 

In the end, David had one troop chose left & I was hope to contest the one object he was hold out of the three in total with the last of my land speeder. But when we rolled for extra turn he got it & mange to pull the Land Speeder as well as the last bits of my army down, slaughter my strike force.

 

Really tactical game & I think we where both mental tired after this. Looking back it just how everthing played out, how everthing we done, we'd counter each other move.

I enjoy battle Daemons & am aim to get my own Chaos Daemon army back up to scratch (hate metal Bloodcrusher!!!!). I learnt a lot from the game & how good Slannesh Daemon are, my own Daemon army mainly made up of Khorne Daemons with Sould Grinder supports.

So it given me a lot to think about if I fight Slannesh Daemon heavy army again, was really good game.

During the game the Event team came up & told me that my Space Wolves had a Best army nominee. After the game I was to set my Space Wolves up in the cabinet, so people could vote during Launch time.

Launch was brillaint half chicken.

My Space Wolves where up for another Best army nominee which made my day. Just the army side is my main goal in tournaments, I like seeing really cool armies. I posted in the past on here & other fourms that I am sick & tired of all the moan/negative toward the hobby.

 

End of the day I want to see cool armies, to give myself & other idea. I like conversting models & making each unit stand out from the normal. My aim alway to make my armies look cool.

Was good to meet you at ToS - glad I wasn't the only one who suffered at the hands of Daemons... but I guess that's not a surprise considering my cursed dice! Hitting with 3 lascannons and 2 demo cannons and failing to wound his greater daemon... not my finest start.

 

We all had a good laugh though, I was wondering if you could send me the pics of my Ultramarines?

 

Don't think me and Chris and the rest can make ToS till January (which should give us time to paint well in advance, rather than all of us rushing like this year) but we'll be at doubles and were considering planetary empires.

 

I guess I just need to figure out what I want to add to my army, the only thing it seemed to be missing was a combat unit!

 

I'm amazed I didn't play Marines all weekend...

 

I don't suppose you saw what was in the best Blood Angels list, did you? Chris is thinking of taking them next time and is looking for ideas.

I have to say, your armies and your reports are an inspiration. You wargame the way I hope I someday can; with a beautifully painted army, playing tournaments and whether you win or lose you have great games with great opponents and give as good as you get!

I think they'll be on page two/three where I got the armies loaded up just after my games.

 

No idea I never got a chance to look that table 1 other than a click glance when I was going to the toliet. Seen a Predators, might have been Baal?

 

I'll not be that the doubles as preffer one vs one, got more room to see/space. Also armies on parade for Games Day is on the same time. I will however be that.

 

+ELG Counter Attack in Edinbrugh - Space Wolves, new Long Fangs first tournament with the new models.

+Throne of Skulls October No1 - Space Wolves same list but add 250pts of Long Fangs. End of the day less model to carry for me & added fire power :devil: 2x 4 Launcher & 1 Token Heavy Bolter.

+ Throne of Skulls April. Return of the Iron Warriors or I might make a start on Mk6 Iron Warriors with the "rumour" of 6th ed. Just I use old Inks, so if I want to add stuff limited, more so if I run out. New Wash like Badab Black. If I run out I can that least get into the train & to my local GW in a few min's, get back & get painting asap. Mark 10 year of tournaments & due to my Iron Warriors being first tournament army all those year ago.

 

Change be current list, just new models so I know how they play, spend Christmas making the new models?

 

I think after that. Would like to do ToS July again well see. ELG Counter Attack, Throne of Skulls October & Stirling wargaming Rapid Fire.

End of the day for me I just like to get games. I don't care what people take in there armies as long as it legal, I find moan about them usely mean sore losser. It all about the attuide of the oppent that the end of the day.

 

I like to learn from my games from a win, loss or draw. But end of the day if I am lossing I rather go all out as who know. I hate given up, rarely if ever give up. Fight on.

Nice reports IP, I just noted you made a mistake in the 2nd practice game.

 

You said your rune priest tried to instant kill a nurgle deamon with a roll off double 1, but that just means you get a perils of the warp attack, but your power still works! So you would have killed him and taken a wound (Possible both dying at the same time), so quite epic and saga worthy!

I can't rememeber what I said, but yes knew that :P The power still went though, just I took the wound & killed my Rune Priest as he was already on a wound. Power still went though.

With the photos this might be down to the IPad as my friends have had problem with this but check on there computer/lap tops it ok much like they all loaded for me.

 

Yes I think I said I do not do turn by turn, hard to rememeber it all & just want to put out the key moment what stand out in the game for me. Sort of why I take photos per turn to hopeful shed some light on what going on. But as said just it better this way in term small bit follow by lot of photos dose not slow down game play in my view.
