Warlord Battle Titan Commission

This is my prototype Warlord Battle Titan for commission work.

Its made from foam card and polysterene cut with CNC machinery.

Detailing will be done with plasticard.

Right now the arms and weapon hardpoints are missing, save for a Gatling blaster. The weapons will be fully switchable, and for the first model I am going for 2 DB turbo laser destructors, a Gatling Blaster (for Void Shield blastin') and a Volcano Cannon.

My initial plan was to make him 24 inches tall, but with some stabilizing work he ended up being 27.

I am already beggining to design the next model which will be the correct height and have slightly smaller head

I've been dabbling with varies success in a similar ilk, however I don't have the CNC cutter, V. jealous of that.

I know how much work goes into this sort of project but the fact that it can be replicated makes it worthwhile. I would however echo the comments of others in that it does look out of proportion. I'm curious, what did you use as a source for the drawings. Photos? Or did you use the epic model itself? Maybe it's the stance in which case simply straighten the legs.

Also, with the foam board, what I have done and find very useful for rigidity is drawing small squares and matching cut-outs of foam board pieces. It helps mate them up and is a nice place to wallop the glue (though it does affect the dimensions a tad so might be too much of a pain for you to change the dimensions now.

You can see what I mean on the side of my mini hawk (it's just a cut down t'hawk as I hate the stormraven soooooo much, only cost £5 to make it too :-))

Thanks for the replies! They are very helpful.

I too also thought it was a bit out of proportion. The one I am working on now is slightly more slender.

I mainly used the epic model for proportions but I seemed to have messed up the pelvis area.

The torso is actually entirely polysterene. The foam card was added later for detail. Unfortunately I dont own the CNC so I have to design each part and order it. The torso actually turned up to be quite heavy (3 lbs) which makes the whole thing unbalanced.

So to sum up - Remake it is :). Tommorrow I'll have the next build.

Keep the criticism coming - I want to make this perfect!

glad it wasn't taken offensively! been rather damaged annihilating my thumbs with an exacto making TRUE scale true scale marines, not the kind where they are arnie on steroids using terminator armour :) Looking forward to see the remake of this, as it is something I would really consider buying if scaled correctly!

No, no. Don't shrink the torso. Just make the rest of it big enough to fit the torso. It makes it more epic.

Although that is easier to do, there wont be much of a table left for Apocalypse games if he got bigger :)

I actually found what was terribly wrong with it and looked so .... well so overwhelmingly imperiumy. I misinterpreted its arm... armpits? well the wings under his arms.

But the fault still seems to be in the legs.

New legs coming up then :D

I'll be honest, the Titan looks fine to me. I've only seen two in person, and both of them looked comparable to what you're building. But I'm sure trying out another set of legs wouldn't hurt, better off getting your model built correctly the first time around then finishing the project and not enjoying it as much.

I finished the mock up 3d model. Should have it in 5 or 6 hours. The thighs needed to be a lot taller indeed. Thats what you get for being an ork player for a decade. Stumpy legs <_<

Are you able to use sheet metal mode in your drawing program.

It would allow you to have a flat template that you could print onto paper then mount to foamboard anc cut yourself.

Just thinking at this stage if you are going to be doing this a few more times you would be saving a lot of wonga.

That's what Iam doing at the momment. I am using Adobe Illustrator and Lightwave for the designs so its quite easy to make printouts for the foam board.

Keep the feedback coming!

So didnt manage to get the new legs today, but I did have the parts of some Warlord Titan Thighs I made a couple of weeks ago and went to the scrap box.

The model is still slightly off scale but it is a great improvement.

New torso and head on touched up old legs

Will wait to see how new torso looks on new legs but a smaller torso was a good idea.

Can you do a shot of both torsos together so I can get an idea of how much smaller the new torso is? You have one with one and a half torso but would love the full reveal.

Also, have you switched from foamboard to polystyrene sheet for the new torso?

Ok, so I cut a strip of 1,5 inches off from the bottom of the new torso and the whole thing came together. All this time I was too reluctant to make the torso smaller than the legs (like I said, thats the ork mentality kicking in).

@LamenterMarine - No its still foamboard. Only the head hood is from polysterene sheet ripped off from a third torso that I completely messed up.

The old larger torso will probably go on to become a huge Warlord with a titan close combat weapon smashing on the Imperium version of Empire State building. A huge powerfist will also be great to allow the model to be used in smaller games as it essentially steals one of the weapon slots from the titan - while at the same time looking super cool!

I might have him smoking a cigar as well for extra coolness

And the comparison to the old torso

The scale of the torso and thighs look much better now, much more like the epic titan further up (minus the top bit). Are you doing turbo-lasers btw?
