Coverfire
If you charge you enemy with your Blood Claws (or whatever) being lead by a Wolf Priest and the squad has preferred enemy status from Oath of War; but the Priest dies before the unit strikes [due to having a lower Initiative] - do they still have the preferred enemy status until the end of the round or is it lost as soon as the Wolf Priest bites it? and the only way to avoid it is by being beardy and not sticking him into base contact when charging high I opponents? G. A. K.
Sadly if he dies they lose the bonus. Its his rule so if he is no longer on the table, the rule no longer applies. but you don't have to be beardy, try to put him in a place that not too many of the enemies can pick him out by basing most of them with the squad itself (if you can ofcourse). Wulfebane
If I understand the OP correctly, you're asking if the BCs lose Oath of War if the Priest dies in the same close combat turn? In that case, I believe the answer is No, because close combat is considered to occur all at once, so in technical terms, the priest dies first, but in literal terms, keeping in mind that all these "men" are kicking/biting/hacking/slashing all at the exact same time, the priest dies after the phase ends, when determining who won combat. Got to remember Initiative order, which was put in place to represent the pace of combat; if the Priest dies before it comes to his and the Claw's Initiative round, then yes, the bonus is lost.
