Bra'tac
If you ever heard them howl, you would be death, unless you are as lucky as me. PHA.. Lucky curse that word and Curse them! I only survived because I lay buried under the bodies of my death squad mates. It only took several minutes for them to wipe out my company, my company wiped out in MINUTES!, non left alive but me, I wouldn’t consider myself lucky, As I lay there staring in Jonas dead eyes for hours? Days? I don’t know, don’t care, to scared to move, afraid they would find me, Afraid their demonic beasts would sniff out my living flesh among the death. And all the time this never ending Demonic Howl, it never stopped, not once, no not even for a second. How it started? Where they came from? Who knows? There were no ships in orbit, at least not that we were aware of...right? The squad was patrolling between the trenches when all of the sudden we heard this agonizing howl. Sounded like a wolf, or a Jackal perhaps, it did not sound natural, it was as if,… as if it was in agonizing pain almost as if dying and managed to howl one last time. Now that I know what it was I never hope to hear it again. We halted scanned the vicinity but got nothing on the auspex, so we moved on. Several paces down the trench and we heard it again, this time ignoring it. You should have seen the faces on the greens, them boy’s were scared alright. We should have been to, but we couldn’t resist making jokes and Howling back at the night. We paused at the 4th platoon, scanning the vicinity again and we had some smokes. Again just us on the auspex and nothing else, I searched the distant tree line with my binocs did not see anything but trees. Then again that agonizing howl, and then again and again, I searched the tree line again, a thick fog had risen and was rapidly extending from the tree line. More howls, but this time it came from multiple creatures as if they had joined that lonely Howler, they were howling more frequent and it sounded as if more and more joined in. Then at one point we couldn’t take it anymore, we covered our ears but still the sound came through, I guess it was about 10 minutes later when it stopped. We looked at each other confused, but before anyone could say anything it started again, and it would not stop until we were all dead, I searched the thick fog, trying to ignore that awful howl and the trembling earth, I saw 4 red eyes, and the next thing I remember is staring in Jonas dead eye’s and still hearing this agonizing howl. I don’t know how long it lasted but when it finally did, I had given up already and closed my eyes hoping never to wake up again. You should have left me there; I should have died in that trench with my company. How they looked like? Did you not hear what I said earlier, all I saw were 4 red eyes in the fog. I guess he was the leader, riding at front on something.., something demonic they must have been demonic with those red eye’s, those bright red eyes, and sound of hoofs galloping. No they were no orks! I can smell an Ork from a mile away. How I know they were riding something? With all due respect SIR! We have something called Rough Riders; I know the sound of a stampeding multipede horde. This was different though, as if they were heavier I guess. Not sure if it was ridden though, but the second set of eyes were much higher, as you would expect with a ridden mount. Never heard them speak, all I heard was this Howling as I said earlier sir, you could have fired artillery right next to me and I would not have heard it because of the Howls. If you would excuse me now sir, I would like to return to the Medbay. This is the 3rd case Branch! another company gone Branch! they all tell the same story, some howling creature, fog, red eyes, and galloping hoofs. 3 different companies, 3 cases with one single survivor, a company wiped out, and no trace of hoofs, creatures or their riders, no trace what so ever but the dead. The troops call them the Night Howlers sir, I don’t care what they call them Branch!, whatever it is or called it’s killing the Emperors troops, I think it’s time we contact the Ordo Malleus. They are already on their way sir; we have been ordered to stay in orbit and were ordered to withdraw our troops from the planet’s surface. The retreat already has been passed down to the company’s. So be it, trapped on my own ship, because of some so called NIGHT HOLWERS! ================================================== == The Night Howlers have been encountered several times now, though very little is known about them. They always seem to appear out of nowhere, but their victims are always warned beforehand by a lonely Agonizing howl, followed by a group of howling beasts. The Howling slowly builds up as more and more Beasts join in before they charge out from the mist. It is believed that these Howl’s reach even the far “ends” of the Warp. It starts with a single beast calling out to its pack, calling its brethren and telling them of prey. As more beast join in the fog grows thicker, the howls become more frequent, before they stop, only to continue several seconds later in an unstoppable charge. Not once was a Night Howler seen before its charge, No scanner is able to pick up its presence. This has made people believe it originates from the warp and only materializes once all of his brethren have joined its pack. Some say they are a rogue group of Space Marines, Renegades ridding demonic mounts to hunt the servants of the Emperor. The Night Howlers Origin: Unknown Classification: Unknown Homeworld: Assumed Somewhere in maelstrom Chaos dedication: Unknown Specialty: Close Combat Estimated strength: Unknown Main colors: Dark colors little else I known. Red Eyes Battle Cry: An agonizing Howl, (no one ever heard them speak) Game wise, I’ll be using Space Wolves The army will be as follows Canis Wolfborn Wolf priest with Chooser 5x Scouts, with melta 3x 5 Thunderwolves with upgrades. 3x 5 Grey Hunters with melta, 2x Las/plas razorback, 1x rhino My background story is based on the 16 Thunderwolf Riders in this army. Game wise I had to add something’s to make it playable and not get my @r5e whooped every game. I like a space marine on a Juggernaut, and once I’m done with my Rebel Grot’s this will be my next 40k army. I have been playing with this idea ever since the mention of plastic Juggernauts, codex Space Wolves finally gave me a book to create a Marine riding a Juggernaut heavy army. As for the name Night Howlers, This originates back in February 2006, when I held a poll at warseer for 3 possible chapter names So what do you think, I though it to be wise to save some background impossibilities by not knowing where they are from where they originate etc, “read; trying to stay away from existing background” But If you can add anything interesting I’m all ears. Thanks for reading Cheers, Bra’tac Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234482-the-night-howlers/ Share on other sites
