calgaryBA
Does the new boxed set of the vanguard veterans come like a regular set on sprues with legs, torsos, weapon arms, helms, etc...? Or is this finecast resin stuff different? I'm just wondering for ease of convertions. I've never been a fan of the weapon load-out and lack of any options that came with the original metal box, but i thought the amor, poses, etc.. were damn nice. Chapter Master Ignis Domus
No, it's the same as the old one, but in resin.
thade
The fact that it's plastic means it's easier to work with/chop apart/convert than the pewter models; it's nice in theory. The fact that it's Finecast means it'll melt if you leave it under your painting lamp, in your car, or on a window sill. Also, all of the people I personally know who have purchases Finecast have been uniformly disappointed in them. Not to turn this into a Finecast hate-thread...you can check the Finecast review thread in News/Rumors if you are curious about it's downs. bushman101
and watch for thin parts on your finecast model. Even with careful storage, they can snap off (my Dante had his axe snap off) At least pinning stuff on is easy
Jorre
I've never had a Dante axe that has not snapped off, I havnt got the finecast one yet but I have had 3 different Dante's
Blindhamster
For what it's worth... I purchased finecast vanguard to mix into my custom vanguard. The finecast models are fantastic and fit in perfectly with what I'd made. They were also much better to work with than metals

If you do and they turn out to be heat resistant, that'd be nice; maybe they silently fixed it? I figure that would warrant an announcement. :P
Drachnon
I bought the fine cast and can't say I'm too happy with them. The weapon loadout they come with is not what most players will be fielding, and if you want to give them things like lightning claws you'll be cutting them up anyway. I decided to not use them for now and buy a box of death company and to turn into a VV squad I can actually use.

bushman101
I've never had a Dante axe that has not snapped off, I havnt got the finecast one yet but I have had 3 different Dante's yeah, but the finecast model axe was very bendy, like rubber. In many regards, it is just a matter of time before bendy parts just snap off. But I was surprised on how quick it was (about a month). I guess what I'm trying to say is be extra cautious handling the finecast stuff.
Gumo9
I bought the "Finecast" Vanguard box and three out of the five models were full of faults (bits warped or miscast). I took it straight back to GW for a refund. I have bought quite a few finecast models and over half have been faulty. I won't be getting any more! Edit: and the weapons bend in your carry case so when you pull out your super cool painted model for a game, his power sword looks like a whip. Blood Shadow
whats the difference between the vanguard models and assault squad models? couldn't you just use the plastic assault ones?
Commander S. Caesare
whats the difference between the vanguard models and assault squad models? couldn't you just use the plastic assault ones? Just that the vanguard has more detail. The plastic assault ones just looks so...basic. i don't want to go through more work trying to make something more detailed by consuming my time when I can get the Finecast for some cash more. JamesI
whats the difference between the vanguard models and assault squad models? couldn't you just use the plastic assault ones? Vanguard look fancier. I made my Vanguard out of DC models, and old metal veterans.
thade
I made my Vanguard out of DC models, and old metal veterans. Pick up a few metal veterans or metal veteran kits on the GW site; they're GW direct only (many of them) and look just as fancy. One of those kits + a vanilla assault squad box and you're in in business. Many of my Vanguard vets are actually assault squad models with various decorations on them (tabards, shoulder cloths, whatever I gleaned from other players/kits)...some of them literally only have gold trim and veteran-colored helmets. My favorites though are the detailed metal ones.
Lord Ragnarok
whats the difference between the vanguard models and assault squad models? couldn't you just use the plastic assault ones? They have a lot of imperial laurels which is an honorific of a great victory on contributor to a great victory. They also have some archaic/older armor.
