Painting and conversions

i hate how you can paint up your SW packs so quickly! *curse you ramses* :D

You give me too much credit. Notice I said, "finish painting my army". Base colors are on the models and what I have left on each GH pack is details, backpacks, heads, and bases. My Long Fangs are getting redone as I am making the switch over to the old metal ones as I win them on Ebay. Finally two Razorbacks that are put together, but not even primed yet.

So not fully painting GH packs in a week, but just what I described above......LOL.

So I have two guys waiting for a dull coat and working on my wolf standard bearer. I am a bit torn;

The dwarve banners will be cake. Some wolf tails, a wolf skull, and then done.

The wavy banners will take a couple of tails and an icon from the GH pack bitz banners, but also need some freehand work.

The kicker here is that the freehand work will be individualized and the damn easy dwarf banners will pretty much be disguised cookie cutter! The wavy ones can have all manner of company and pack runes, maybe toss a couple eyes of aversions and the damn easy dwarves will all have the same runes and anvil/hammer on top.

Damn freehand. Damn dwarf cookie cutter.

Guess I need to find some spare modeling tubing to mount the wavy. Anyone have any tips on which arm and hand to use?

I gave my Wolf Standard a much more tribal feel, cross between a crozius, big maul and a banner. This reminds me to get pics up of it actually. I used fantasy spear shafts and added some wolf tails and bits to it. I opted for that over the more traditional banner as I couldn't be bothered to paint them. I leave the banner waving to the Ultras, I figure a wolf standard would doubles as a weapon... ^_^

So got a couple other members of Pack Ansuz done except for their bases. They are under the, "drying lamp" right now. All that is left is the still yet to be converted wolf standard bearer. I think I will save each of the standard bearers until the end so I don't feel rushed.

huh... those are interesting looking bases! not sure if I like them myself, but they look interesting. The following statement is more of a question to everyone in general but; have opponents complained about bases like that? I meant, I've seen some spectacular looking Rune Priest on bases that seem to be mounted on higher bases. Heck I've even seen some great looking Wolf Guard terminators on slate bases and such. I know it benefits the player, but it also gives the player a disadvantage. I'm thinking it's just an esthetic thing?! but yah... I've know allot of opponents that have been pretty anal with TLOS.

I have never had a problem as TLOS is equally maintained both as a shooter and target.

Mav the bases are from here.

They are the runic mountain bases and will be getting the snow kit as the final step so the boots can be covered/piled up on. Bad pics don't show the rocks and runes too well. There are some better ones in my blog.

that's dope! thanks for the link. Yah that's good to hear, I'd really hate to have an opponent call foul on you during a game. All that hard work and time spent on your minis, only to have some WAAC player to ruin your fun. Cool man, I'd like to see your work with natural lighting. It doesn't do them justice right now, but from what I can tell, they look good.

Lookng for some quick comments on my wolf standards while I am making them:

Base is pinned into the backpack, and banner is pinned into the base. Still getting some wolfy bits, and other prep before finishing up the last packmate of Pack Ansuz.

So prewash and shade photo of my banner. I am no sure if I like it or not. I am almost tempted to use the banners as provided on the sprues. I watched a stupid movie called, "The Eagle" and it came out with the gold standard on the top. Wasn't even a good movie!

might be a dumb question, but isn't that banner facing the wrong side?

it almost looks like that pack only shows their name when they flee

The base is only pinned to the backpack and not glued. I just rotated it to show both facings of the backpack and the banner. I left it unglued with the premise that I might remove the banner once it has been used or when I do not use the banners in my list.

well... that explains a lot :) I usualy take out the bannerbearing marine as first casualty in CC... always use the banner in the first round, since it then has the most effect... and I fully intend to paint more grey hunters than I can field according to the chart.
