Need advice on pre-Heresy Blood Angels army

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes:

I am planning a (pre-) heresy Blood Angels Army. I am a Fantasy player, but have been peripherally into 40K since its inception back in the RT days. So my question is this; what are the big no-no's when putting together the army? I am thinking about such things as armour and helmet variants, which weapons were used/not used by the chapter, iconography and vehicle versions...

I know there will be no Black Rage or Death company, but that's about it!

I Also plan on using robed DA veteran bodies for a unit or two, would that be ok?

I have bought Forge worlds Contemptor dreadnought, hopefully he'll fit in?

And lastly; does anybody have a link or two to inspirational BA paint schemes?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Martin

I'd say it'd be ok - perhaps they are veterans (or even original Terran Blood Angels). Just remember to replace any Dark Angel iconography with Blood Angel ones you may or may not come across (or just get rid of them).

Yes, he totally will. It is supposed to be Great Crusade era tech, after all. :)

Try searching coolminiornot.com for Blood Angels. There bound to be a few crackers there somewhere. :D

For the most part it's just a matter of leaving out certain vehicles, Land Crusaders and the Razorbacks are the main ones to avoid.

If you want a proper pre-heresy army feel you best stick to the FW models Mk II - Mk IV but to be honest it depends on how accurate a feel you want. I've seen loads of pre-heresy armies with regular plastics that look fine to me.

I'd personally use use Mk II and Mk III armour but that's only based on what's been seen in the artwork books with Mk IV becoming available towards the end of the crusade. If you want more of a heresy setting you can go with any of the armour marks really including the Mk VII because the Blood Angels were on Terra during the seige of the Imperial Palace.

You're on the right track though with leaving out the Blood Angels special rules, probably best to use something like the regular marine codex.

At the end of the day though the beauty of pre-heresy/heresy armies is that there is a lot to play around with so that you can tailor your force to suit your vision of what they were like at the time.
