Grey Knights glut.....

I bought a TON of GKs before the codex came out with the thought of playing a pure GK force and it being really cool.

Well I have not played a single game with them yet, they are almost done being painted, and I am wondering if I will even WANT to play with them. The local shop has no less than 5-6 GK players now, and when looking at the various event results, there are a TON of GK players out there.

I have always enjoyed playing uncommon armies or at least playing against armies that aren't the same as mine (ie. GKvsGK) or that won't illicit a "ohh ANOTHER GK army....BLAH" response from an opponent.

I am considering selling off the force either as a complete army, or as squads to purchase something else cool and less common.

So I guess I am just wondering what some opinions are for how or when to start trying to look for a buyer?

Right now, has everyone that is GOING to spend money done spending money?

If I wait and sell them in 2-3 months will there be a glut of "bandwagonners" that are selling their stuff off so none of it will be worth anything?

Just looking for opinions I guess.

If you truely enjoy painting them, and like the army, then it really doesn't matter how many people are playing them. Eventually the bandwagoneers will push off onto the next big thing that lets them sell thier souls to win tournys and we will still be happy with our armies we have. So if you're happy with it, don't worry about it.
In addition to what has already been said...if you bought your GK before the new release, they're all in pewter...so you can point that out and get out of the band wagon bracket. :P These silly kids and their new-fangled plastic GK kits!

hehehe, so true, i have a couple of pewter squads, and only 1 plastic squad. for some reason it gets you less hate :D

If you notice, very few people talk about the incredibly huge numbers of Wolves or Blood Angels. Sisters might not have such a large bandwagon, but the next full codex almost undoubtedly will. Just bide your time and get all the stuff from the dissatisfied bandwagoneers off eBay.

Having seen the Sisters WD codex I can agree that it doesn't look like it will be dynamic enough to sway everyone who anticipates playing the newest releases. A shame as Sororitas fans deserve a better backing by GW.

Looking over the rumours it may not even be until mid 2012 that we have a proper MEQ replacement what with Necrons and Tau supposedly on the way.

Yeah, don't worry - Space Wolves and Blood Angels went through the same thing. In a few months the shine will wear off and maybe a newer, more OTT Ward uber-dex will come out and the FotM band-wagonners will move on to that new shiny.

man trust me on this one. i have pretty much played only SW since 3rd, and when I started playing again I was using the old book. When the new one came out a guy at a store that I used to play with to the FOM and :) me off. Plus that he is a WAAC with no common sense. Played 1 game against him and it was like pulling the teeth out of a cat with a pair of tweezers. end of rant.

I come to GK after playing with them in 3rd not because I want a WAAC army, but because I want a different flavor than my wolves and have liked the rules even in the old book. I think these are a bit off the edge. I will always make my wolves my primary go to list, I just want a back up.

It's funny, but I've seen the opposite here. I've played Grey Knights for maybe four or five years now, and was always the only one around. I grew to like being unique. When the new 'dex came out, I was really afraid of people jumping on the bandwagon. But honestly, I just haven't seen it. My good friend TJ picked up the codex and runs an all-inquisitorial force, which is fine 'cause I'm nearly pure GK. Otherwise, I've seen one guy using Draigowing, but it's just the one guy. I even went to a tournament with maybe 60 people or so, and I was the only GK player there. So I've actually been quite pleasantly surprised by the lack of bandwagoning. Especially when it seems like every other table has Dark Eldar on it. <_<

I feel your pain. I've been playing 40K since 2nd Ed came out. My first army was marines. Five years ago my friend, who got me into 40K, passed away and I inherited all his stuff. A vehicle heavy IG army, a Space Wolves army, and Grey Knights. I almost can't play one of his armies without getting looked at sideways as a FotM/WAAC, and yet every force has been around longer than most of my opponents have been playing Warhammer.

Same, we've got no GK players in a 15-20 person group. Vassal is a different story. There are a whole bunch of GK players there.

well heres my hole "grey knights" back story. every since i started to collect space marines ( BT's mostly) i have always had an fascination with grey knight! their fluff, look everything i really liked, but for so many years i didn't make my move on GK's. when i heard that the GK codex was really coming out, i jumped at the first chance i got to get my hands on them! moral of the story? it doesn't matter if u been playing GK for a thousand years or only just found out about them, if u love GK's like i do u will not give them up, the band-wagonners will have there fun, then they will move on, and the only ones left standing will be the TURE GK players

anyways enjoy the new codex! and your army!

Quoted for truth. I think it's altogether too easy to break people down into 'vets' and 'bandwagoners,' and to assume that anyone who picks up a shiny new codex must be doing it just because they're the flavor of the month. But a new codex will also attract brand new die-hard fans to an army. It's something I think we can all stand to be reminded of a little more often.

On behalf of us 'vets,' welcome to the Ordo Malleus my friend. We're glad to have you!

The way I look at it, the true Grey Knights players don't spam Dreadnoughts.

I have around 10k points worth of Knights, but only 3 Dreadnoughts. A Psyfleman, a LLLC/DCCW/HF Dread, and the Forgeworld Grey Knight Dreadnought with the blade and Psycannon arms.

I'm the old-school kind of GK player, so I still have ~6 assorted Land Raider variants at home, too. Mind you, I did stock up on the new kits also

The way I look at it, the true Grey Knights players don't spam Dreadnoughts.

But the way *I* look at it, true GK players don't make ridiculous requirements about what to field or not field in an army.

Yeah, I love dreadnoughts, they're my favorite models. Huge hulking walking machines of death, they're just beautiful - and quite ridiculous.

What I dislike though, is people spamming cloned units, its just boring to look at compared to an army with variation :)

Regarding 'bandwagoneering', then who cares? If you don't want to play GK vs GK, then decline those games, but don't expect to be a unique snowflake in a game with less than 15 armies to choose from.

BTW: I do find the OP rather rude, since you're basically telling all us other GK players to ^_^ off, so you can unique :D

It's terminators for me.

I've been playing Grey Knights since they appeared as an option in lost and the damned back in the rogue trader days. Embraced full on GK's in 3rd ed and ran the bare minimum of PAGK so I could get loads of Termies, had a brief love affair with a Sanguinary Guard army untill the new dex came out and now I run an all Termie GK force.

I wouldn't say a "true" GK player uses this, that or the other as we all have our own playing style. I tend to favour fluff over WAAC, for instance I only use one Paladin unit as a bodyguard for my Grandmaster and only one brotherhod banner because it's not in keeping with the fluff for every single terinator squadto be flying it's own banner.

Like folks have said, every dex tends to get their own WAAC, FOTM re-rollers looking for the next easy win. The players who love GK will still be playing them 2 years from now.

I agree, while I never played GK until the new codex, I was interested in them since daemon hunters was released. I love my Draigo wing, its awesome ;)

I've never jumped on any bandwagons. My first army was Tau. My second army was Thousand sons, and my New Army I just began, Dark Angels. My girlfriend began the game recently after seeing me play it, Who did she pick Space Wolves. Thus why I went with my love of Johnson and my love of DA fluff and did DA.

What is with girls and wolves? I've noticed that Space Wolves is one of the most popular choices for female gamers.

Tyranids also, but that's for another board.

In response to Fred Johnson, I like to be a true-to-fluff Grey Knights player in the sense that I have so few Dreadnoughts in my entire army, as the old codex stated that they rarely use them
