30mm Bases

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question for those in the know.

I want to base my truescale guys on 30mm bases rather than 25mm that are too small which hinders what I can model on them or 40mm bases which may alter the game play in terms of unit spacing and number of enemies they can attack in melee but was wondering are they gaming legal to use in 40k?

As far as friendlies go most people wont even notice, GW stores and Tournaments go that will be a no-no. I use 30mm bases, but I only game with friends, and even then fairly rarely. My suggestion. if you intend on tourny's and GW stores, is to use 25mm bases with modelled overhangs, rhino doors, rock/slate etc.

Cheers,

Jono

I thought it was GW's policy that a model could be mounted on a base larger then the supplied base with no issue?

I.e. tactical marines can go onto 40mm bases, but terminators cannot go onto 25mm bases...

So I don't see where the issue with the 30mm bases would be if they are for what legally can be put onto 25mm bases..

I base my marines on 30mm resin flagstone bases and have not had issues with other players at my LGC over using 30's.

I wouldn't play in a GW store or tourney so it's never been an issue for me, but I could see how it would be flagged by another player if it was an official gaming event with prizes and such at stake.

The 2011 'Ard Boyz rules just says "Any conversions must begin as Citadel models and contain a majority of Citadel components," That's it. No mention of larger or smaller base sizes, but knowing 'Ard Boyz you might want to ask the judge well in advance. I've heard a LOT of complaints about 'Ard Boyz and WYSIWYG jerks, amongst other things.

Although anyone who complains about somebody using third party bases the exact same size as GW's deserves to get turned into a Chaos Spawn.
