I'll be mixing boltgun with a dot of chainmail, added with a bit of asureman blue, base in that then glaze green and purple wash mix in crevices.

Then mixing mithril into the base mix to highlight, finally Metal medium from vallejo into that mix again for extremities, (VERY subtle)

Then a very light mix of dev and gryph for hard weather streaks. scratching lightly in places and adding a heavy glaze of matching colour to base around boots and bolts in legs, then over that a dusting of pigment, finally sealed with pigment sealer.

May be doing many many murals inside the armour before weathering stuffs too sooo, fun times.

Theeeeen Light sourcing!

So its been a rather busy week gone by, anniversary and such and realising that maybe giving the girlfriend a box full of space marines for me to play with would not go down well, still resigned to messing around with old mini's However after mailing some bits and bobs off to various people and a little spare time this morning, heres what I have so far!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v359/argosis101/DSCF8676.jpg

(if you're wondering what that greenstuff blob is, its a belly and upper thigh's of a cherub, going to have to do those little buggers very slowly bit by bit, I want 3 of them on the shoulder eventually)

some minis I had been playing around with hacking up and experimenting with making them larger..

plus a test piece for Rhino top hatches

Also if anyone has any sources or can make decals.. I could use some advice on where to buy or simply making me some and getting Kudo's at the end of this blog - need a sheet or two of self designed decals

Very nice marines so far, looking forward in seeing some more 'truescales'.

Contemptor is coming along very nicely as well, however, haven't you turned the left sheen outwards in? (the back part in front).

I sat here wondering for ages what you were on about then it suddenly clicked and ended up laughing coke through my nose in realisation of my epic fail... however it doesnt actually look all that bad and May fill the front and put some design down it to... not be so obvious...

LOL.

But seeing your greenstuff work, I'm not worried you can fix that ;)

In my boredom of waiting for Milliput to arrive from online to continue the Knight titan, I decided a deathspeaker should be born, and considering how epic Cassius is although terribly miss scaled.. heres something to wet the whistle

Also decided to lick the contemptor in gunmetal (not the main armour colour) but just to work on the undercarriage and mechanics.. see how grimey and gritty I can get it :HQ:

first lick which is just a wash is the basis for the colours and pigment build up.

so playing with colours and crap, need some input, is this how you would all envision the basic blue silver? bare in mind nothing stays clean in my hands and you will most likely see holes in everything (aside from this baby, couldnt bring myself to drill into it)

this is the bare licks of paint at the mo and the outcome of 25 minutes of work, tell me what you think so far, the veterans are going to have parts of their armour in charcoal blue silver and honestly.. are going to look terribly mangled, as background of the executioners denotes that captaincy is often contested by bouts in the sparring ring as challenges for leadership.

note this chappy is going to get extensive greening :D as for the head, I am tempted to make it a baldy, give it the marine neckring and brace, the sculpt a chaplain half skull bolted to his head (anyone remember the sons of medusa WIP from Coolmini?) similar to that

May be my screen but from what I can see there's only a slight tint of blue, was that what you were going for?

I'm also in the process of building an executioner army so this thread is really inspiring for me.

When I did my test mini I shaded the mini with blue but now that I've seen your comtemptor I can't decide whether my test model was too heavily blue.

I'm interested in your weathering though, would you be able to give me a run done of how you achieved it?

Thanks for the inspiration!

How are you doing the blue/silver? If your washing it blue then you will need a serious amount of coats for it to look right.

What I would do it to mix up regal and some mithril silver/boltgun metal, you will still get the metallic glint but a deeper shade of blue like those in your first post.

Very nice work on your death speaker, give us more!!

Well I thought about it and in pictures at the first page the colour looks fine but on figure it just didnt look right, if you want I can show you my test subject? ;)

On the contemptor (due to the flash it doesnt show the blue hue which albeit is subtle) although I am considering adding a couple glazes of blue over areas of it around the battle damage and weathering, what do you think?

The weathering is simple, on the silver, a glaze of gryphonne sepia from the bolts and down regardless of detail and change, then a light streak of devlan mud, let it half dry then smudge it with the brush, then repeat the streak leaving it to dry fully.

the damage on red is red gore + dwarf flesh mixed and dabbed, next a scorched brown and red gore mix, just off brown and that is painted over the dabs, leaving a bottom line of the highlight, finally a very thin line of black is added over the top.

on the silver this is done with fortress grey, then a black/grey mix then finally a black line over the top to give shadow, the difference is I am using Vallejo Metal medium to ring around the whole damage as to accentuate it as though actual chipping. note all metal highlighting is done with base mix plus metal medium NOT chainmail or mythril.

same goes for the undercarriage, brazen brass, washed with gryphonne, washed with devlan, lightly dry brushed with metal medium, re applied with devlan then a metal medium glaze repeatedly to build up contrast to the higher points (around the ringed hubs of the legs)

anyway I don't like to add irrelevant things so, link test subject or? more to come on Mr Death speaker tonight, Oh and the Contemptor us getting a lovely hanging sash too, more on that later! :D
