Grey Knight Dreadknight and Purifiers

I've been (slowly) working on my GK army. Here are a couple pieces that I'm working on right now (sorry about the blurriness of the pictures, my place is pretty dark and my phone's camera doesn't do well in those conditions. Also, as you may surmise, these pics weren't all taken at the same time in development):

Here are a couple purifiers. The melee weapons aren't done yet. I've been experimenting with custom water transfer decals; they're a lot harder to use than the ones GW sometimes packages in with their stuff, but it turned out pretty well-- it looks a lot better IRL.

Looking good mate. Good job on that dreadknights powersword - the lightning(coils?) look very realistic and crisp.

May I ask how you paint that metal? I like the way it looks - could be due to picture-quality of course.

I love what you have done to your dreads base - are you going to do the whole army with bases looking like that? I always thought that lava-bases looked tacky on minies, but somehow with the GK's it just seems to work - afterall they go to deamoninfested worlds and purify the

That decal looks absolutely gorgeous. I love the way that they put the tiny little red skull in there.

For a little critisism I sense a couple of mouldlines here and there, and would like those barrels drilled out. IF I may say so.

Overall nice work

Thanks very much.

I painted the Dreadknight's metal differently than the Purifier's power armor. I was going for a more "worn out, well used" look, since the fluff makes it seem like the DK exoskeletons are one of those really old imperial armaments that really stretch even the Inquisition's capacity to replace. I started with black primer, then put a coat of flat grey over the plates. Then, I took a silvery no-name metallic and drybrushed it on some of the lighter areas, and used boltgun metal in the darker areas. Finally, I highlighted with mithril silver.

I agree about the volcanic basing-- I was kind of hesitant to try it. I'm going to add some charred up daemons littered across the soot to give it the proper feel. I'm not very good at playing 40k-- I just like the fluff to be honest, so I'm trying to make a "righteous flame-oriented" GK army, even if isn't competitive. All of my lists include a lot of incinerators. Ergo, I felt that the volcanic basing would be appropriate xD And yes, all of the models will be based in the same fashion.

Part of what makes custom decals so hard to work with is making sure that they're sealed properly. Interestingly enough, I had tried to use that decal before and I hadn't sealed the area around that little red skull properly and when I put it on it ran like an emo kid's mascara. No offence to emo kids =)

There are a few mold lines on the DK that I'm not really too proud of-- I was in such a rush to paint it that I forgot to go back and make sure that they were all gone. C'est la vie. I haven't decided if I'm going to bore out the storm bolter's barrels or if I'm just going to paint them on. I'm not really sure why they weren't molded into the bolter's model in the first place...

It really bothers me that the Grey Knights adopt a white helm colour. Please, "Grey" Knight?

Worry not, my strike squads/purgation squads/interceptor squads all have "grey" helmets =) I believe the purifiers just do it to signify their... Well, purity. They're the exemplars to the rest of the chapter for mental purity, where as the paladins represent the physical purity (of sorts) of the chapter.
