Brother Captain Andrew
Hi everybody I decided that I was going to try my first conversion, and thought I'd jump right in and try to make my DIY chapter's champion (EC from the BT codex). Any tips would be welcome and I apologize for the somewhat rough state of the model as I haven't had time to sand everything out just yet after removing the chapter specific icons this is very early in the "process" aka me butchering my model  . The idea is eventually to model a tabard onto the model, and to mount the shield on the back to replace the backpack. So without further ado... http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/frontpre.jpg http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/BackPre.jpg The new Pauldrons are from the company champion sprue, I've replaced the metal arm with a plastic one to move the sword in a more overhand position. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/swordpre.jpg I took the chainsword edge off of the sword and replaced it with a power sword top, though this may and I might try plasti-card instead, still on the fence. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/ShieldPre.jpg Shield needs some serious work, but so far I've just trimmed the bottom to the winged sword symbol and added the purity seal. So this is it as of now, hopefully I'll be able to keep progress reports coming in, and this won't turn into a gigantic mess/waste of a great model. Dorns Padawan
Mate that looks real good at first glance, what theme will your chapter have? Very promising so far! Solid Zaku
Try GS'ing the transition from pole to power sword a little and I think it'll look a lot better. Brother Captain Andrew
Thanks for the comments and encouragements! Tabard is Green Stuffed!!! May need to tweak a bit, but I think it turned out pretty well. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/GSRobe-Side.jpg Cleaned up the Shield and Sword http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/GS-Shield.jpg http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/GS-Sword.jpg @solid Zaku Thanks for the advice, I tried GSing the sword, but couldn't fix it, so I manged i cleaned it up and managed a much better one, If I may say so. @ Dorns Haven't decide exactly what shade I am going to do. I know that the foundation will be fenris grey with some dark blue mixed in and silver. I'm using the DA winged sword as my chapter symbol, always like the look. Once I settle on a scheme I'll post it. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234802-first-metal-conversion/#findComment-2828343 Share on other sites

Olis
Nice colour scheme - looks like a negative of the Storm Wardens heraldry. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234802-first-metal-conversion/#findComment-2828682 Share on other sites
Brother Captain Andrew
yeah, that's pretty much right. I'm looking for a darker grey-blue but that is the metal style I want. Brother-Captain Sharp
yeah, that's pretty much right. I'm looking for a darker grey-blue but that is the metal style I want. I'm worried about the tabard and the legs sharing the same color. It's going to make the bottom half of your models very one-note. Of course, just my opinion. ;) The conversion looks great! The tabard looks natural and is dynamic, so well done. The mini just exudes cool. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234802-first-metal-conversion/#findComment-2828987 Share on other sites
AustonT
I just caught this, it's looking good. I have some suggestions but at this point may be of little help, but good for next time. Since you covered a majority of the model in tabards you could have saved some work on the clean up of the torso. If you were intent on using the legs( they are awesomely chunky) removing the torso and using a platic one in it's place saves you the torso for another build (head intact) and you can use the arms on a plastic torso. For the sword the WHFB general sword would have looked great and very EC. As it stands right now it looks great, I look forward to seeing him finished. Wicced
nice conversion brother! i think the tabard looks a little rough though. there are some spots that don't look like natural folds. the area under the belt buckle and around his holstered sidearm for example. i like the colour scheme, but i have to agree on the tabard and legs sharing the same colour, maybe a lighter tone for the tabard would fix that issue. Brother Captain Andrew
Hey guys, just wanted to update everyone that my GS didn't hold for some reason, so I'm gonna have to redo it before I can prime and paint. Thanks for the suggestions and tips from everyone. Brother Captain Andrew
Hey New GS is done. Turned out ok, but getting the lower parts of the tabard to look right was a pain in the @$$! Also I had to alter some gs on the chest to get the pose right so some of the folds on the torso don't look quite right. without further ado... Front- Quick comment, the weird green stuff in the picture coming off the hand is a GS'd handle for the sword. will be covered with purity seals eventually. http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/FinalGS.jpg Back http://i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc485/alphafox/FinalGSBack.jpg Also Here is my new color scheme, thanks for the advice, I decided to go bluer on the extremities and make the tabard white with the chapter blue as a border.
