Grey Knight Dreadknight

Recommended Posts

This is part of the Greyknight monthly project on SWC. I've just completed July with 8 days to spare!

Here is my Dreadknight. Such a large piece meant my blending had to be really good otherwise it would show up really badly in the pictures with my new DSLR. The Nemesis Great sword blade was done by hand and took 5 hours.

I hate painting metals, and I choose Grey Knights because of that. This model has 4 different kinds of metals on it. The blue steel armour, the tin bitz skeletal frame, the gun metal and the gold. It's really allowed me to concentrate on painting metals.

GOD Gks just look too awesome.

Its no wonder why my Death Guard keeps getting beat by these guys.

Insta-nuked by Interceptor squad 1st turn. Lost half my army to pally termies by turn 3. Barely made a dent in turn 4. All transport gone by Dreadknight. HQ melted and burned by Draigo in turn 5. WTH.

So would you mind sharing how you painted it?

Black undercoat.

Blue Wash mixed with silver paint: airbrushed on.

Mix more silver into the mix and highlight by brush. Keep repeating until pure silver.

Line the panels and gaps with a dark blue+black+water mix to add depth.

The sword is white undercoat. The colours used are all Vallejo game colour and were blended using a mixture of wet blending, feathering and layering. Colours: Skull white, Wolf Grey, Hawk Turquoise, imperial blue, black.

The skeletal frame is tinny tin, washed with badab black with chain mail edge highlights.

Red is terracotta, scarlett red, bloody red.

Gun metals are black+gun metal, gunmetal, badab black wash, chain mail.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the delay in responding.
