Papakeno's WIP

Hey guys! Thought I'd make this thread to keep posting my progress on various projects (i.e future projects). This is my second miniature box. Last stuff I painted was Chaos Khorne Berzerkers. Though I'm not completely done with all of them yet. I'll get back finishing them later! :)

Anyway, this time I bought myself some Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard. Besides that, I also upgraded my working space from being on the kitchen table to a designated painting area. Got some new material and tools as well as an airbrush, yay :) This is the progress so far:

As I said, I'll keep updating! Cheers!

Looking good so far, I can certainly see that you must have only recently acquired this workspace - it's too ordered! It needs more clutter! :D

I just realised that you can't see anything at all from the previous pics except the overview of my workplace. Here are some close-ups and some more job done:

All the gold/red areas will receive a layer of glossvarnish prior to get sepia washed and then cleaned up with alcohol. The blooddrops/gems will get some highlighting done after the wash step is done.

Bases is getting a terracotta pigment and maybe some skulls :)

Thank you :) Hehe yeah, though I usually keep my surroundings relatively clean and ordered in general, but we will see ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

I finished off painting some more. Not far from finished now, have to:

- Wash them - finish blooddrops/gems

- Paint standard + accessories

- Finish the bases with pigments

- Glue the remaining parts

All arms are magnetized so that one may swap between the weapons.

I'M SORRY FOR THE PHOTOS, USING MY MOBILE PHONE!

Btw, perhaps anyone has any idea what I could write on the parchments (big ones not purity seals)?

Cheers!

You could go with:

mortis (overused though)

English Blood Angel-y words eg Blood, Sanguinius etc.

Names- If stuck for ideas there are some websites dedicated to names or you can translate generic words like brave, noble, distinctly manly, swordsman etc. I have a list of names for my BA army so send me a PM if you want a copy.

Nice looking Guard. I really like the power weapons.

Ok, so I'm almost done. Just noticed that I have to darken the gold on the wings a bit. Other than that there is just to paint the banner and to finish everything up with a satin varnish. And oh, also pigment on the bases.

Awesome work, are the Power Weapons airbrushed?

Thank you :) Yes they are airbrushed. Had some trouble masking (first time) so they are not as smooth as I wanted them to be.

These are absolutely stunning! :D

Best gold I think I've ever seen.

Really? Thank you a lot!

Ohhh man these are looking fantastic ;)

Thank you.

I will try to get them done this week. I don't have much time at all to spend, sad enough.

Thank you all for the comments!

They look fantastic! Got the sudden urge to get myself some and paint them up. Curious though, How did you achieve the gold?

Thank you Kable! The gold is done in the following steps:

1. Basecoat in Vallejo Liquid Copper.

2. Paint all areas except deepest recesses using Vallejo Liquid Red Gold.

3. Paint the most exposed areas with Vallejo Liquid Old Gold.

4. Vallejo Gloss Varnish.

5. Vallejo Sepia Shade (wash).

6. Clean up with Isopropyl Alcohol using a sponge-like make-up stick (don't know what it is called).

I hope that explanation is satisfying, if you have anything else to ask I'd be happy to reply.

Other than that I hope to have the models 100% finished till next week, these are still WIP.

All that is left to do is put some text on to the purity seals and other parchments, but I need a MICRON pen and I haven't got one yet, but I will. Also I have yet to finish the banner. Still this is the final result:

(I really do need to get a better camera, mobile phones sucks!)

I LOVE GOOOOLLLD!!

:)

Oh wow that took me by surprise! Nearly lost half my sammich on my keyboard with laughter!

These looks really really top notch mate, good job! Gold is just brilliant! My one gripe I think some of the details like wings/laurels on the armour could make them pop a little with a different colour to break the gold up a touch.

Thank you! I was thinking just like you before I started to paint them. Though I changed my mind in the middle of it.
