Journeyman
So learned ones, I have a selection of models from many years ago (all still boxed) and the fourth edition book. I was wondering what the difference in is between 4th and 5th codex. Should I spend the money on the 5th ed codex? I read the FAQ and some of the forums. I want to write a reasonable background; you know wolf pack on the edge. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234947-moving-on-up/ Share on other sites
dswanick
Welcome back. My suggestion would be get the Assault on Black Reach mini-Rulebook. They can be had for $5-10 US on EBay, and contain all of the rules with none of the filler. You definitely want a rulebook, though, as there are significant changes from 4th to 5th. EBay auction - AoBR mini-Rulebook Edit: just re-read the post and realized OP may have been referring to the codex. Saw 4th, and thought rulebook as there was no 4th Ed codex. :D Anyway, if it's the codex to which you refer, then you still definitely want the 5th ed book. 1) It works much better with 5th ed rules and 2) most people won't play an outdated codex if a newer one exists. Max_Dammit
you have a 4th ED dex, cool can i have it, it must be very rare as i'v never heard of it :D There is a big change from 3th ed to 5th ed, but the basic troops are about the same, we lose a special CC weapon but gain a special shooting weapon when we come in 10. other than that, most models should still be usable. TiguriusX
I'm not sure if you are talking about the SW codex or the WH40k rule. The WH40K ruleset upgraded from 4th to 5th edition (with a rumored 6th addition just around the bend) The SW codex took a while between updates and went from 3rd to 5th edition (hence the ribbing above) Go to your local hobby store and thumb through their SW codex if they allow it. It is worth a buy. You can also use the dark arts of the interwebz to read things. The biggest gameplay changes I can think off is no more hidden multitudes of PF in the BCs and our LFs are now cost effective and very popular. If you do some forum searching and go waaaay back to when it was released I'm sure it was discussed back then. My search-fu is weak sorry I can't do it for you Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234947-moving-on-up/#findComment-2828920 Share on other sites
Levitas
6th Edition is rumored to be next summer, but we'll have the current Space Wolf book for a while, so yes i'd buy it. Just be aware that 6th edition will likely shake up what our models are armed with, so build with flexibility in mind. Magnets tec.
