Jacinda
I am re-basing my Sisters of Battle and I want to do some thing in place of the metal tab for the Seraphim's base. The new bases are a stone tiled floor and the metal tab stood out bad enough on the grass bases and now they just look out of place. My first thought was to get a bunch of flyer/skimmer bases and cut of the bottom, but the plastic rod is a tad thick and would probably need to be pinned to the actual base. This would leave a visible pin inside the acrylic rod at the bottom that I could not hide like I could with a grass base. So then I thought about just getting some plane 1/16" (1.5mm) clear rod from TAP or some place like that. The smallest order from TAP for 1/16" rod is 150 feet. I don't need 150 inches. Granted it only costs about $12USD but it seems like a waste. Does anyone know here I could get something similar? Maybe I could get the skimmer bases and glue them flush to the base and hope for the best. (HA! Yeah, right) Barring a good source of small amounts of acrylic rods, does anyone have a cool idea for basing jump troops? Tall grass or other shrubs are not an option with the base style. Thanks if you can help. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234983-basing-jump-troops/ Share on other sites
Olis
Well, I've seen pictures of JP troops who've alighted themselves on small ruins - it's relatively dynamic and adds flavour to the squad... all you gotta do is source some small enough ruins/terrain. Or make it yourself. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/234983-basing-jump-troops/#findComment-2829588 Share on other sites
winterdyne
You could try heat-stretching some clear sprue. I'm doing that for a bunch of servo-skulls at the mo. Thick it'd be wobbly for metal minis tho... I reckon your best bet is a thin diameter brass rod painted unobtrusively (black maybe). I don't think any form of plastic / acrylic will be strong enough in a thin diameter. I don't think any form of plastic / acrylic will be strong enough in a thin diameter. This is what I have done with two test models so far. The rod is painted codex grey to blend in with the grey stone of the base and I mount it in the bottom of the skirts. What I have found out is that a straight pinning makes the girls look impaled or crucified depending if their feet or apart or together. If I bend the rod slightly I can get them into a more natural, hovering pose with them leaning forward and also very slightly to the left or right. Since that would not be an option with acrylic rods, I think I will stay with the clasic thin metal rod.
