Last stand apoc

Well Grimnar and his boys found themselves in abit of a pickle last night. Defending a city in the center of a table cutting it in 2 length ways they faced off against a 6000pt force of dark angels on one side, 6000pts of blood ravens and imperial guard on the other and the threat of a flank marching/ deepstriking 2000pts of blood angels. They just had to kill us. we had to hold out as long as possible in the city. the game lasted 5 turns (6 hours with deployment and what not)

 

Highlingts of the game include:

 

-Thunderhawk (wolves) ariving turn 2 and destroying their only super heavy. The stormlord? (anti-tank) bane blade variant.

-Lone wolf with MotW, plasma pistol and storm shield taking on a unit of 5 assault marines with gabe seth and corbulo in. Killing off the assault squad and holding the characters till the end of the game unsupported.

-Another Lone wolf taking on another unit of assault marines with a librarian and killing them all with his thunder hammer and stormshield

-A unot of OBEL scouts coming on behind devastators shielded by a tactical squad (the first with some character from vanilla marines) charged the tacticals and caught the char too (wasn't in the unit) won the combat by 5 making them leave the board though the commander just fell short of the board edge but then ran away to hide in another unit the coward. The scouts were then charged by a vanguard unit and proceeded to wipe them out.

-Fenrisian wolves charged a unit of deathwing that teleported into the center of the city with 2 other units and proceeded to chew through them all. With shooting support from gray hunters.

 

At game end they had a single unit of 3 (from 10) blood raven terminators in the city. Outside the city walls were teeming with marines, terminators, vehicles all held up by each other, fear and the might of grimnar, arjac and 8 other wolf guard who stormed out of the thunderhawk with a revered fallen to stop their main advance.

 

Result: Victory for the Wolves of Russ! Having lost less than a quarter of out starting strength!

Sounds like a blast. My gaming group really needs to make some time for a game this big

You really should try and have a game. This was my second in 2 weeks. Amazing fun. Going to try having a game with the wolves attacking. Get to use my whole great company then which is always a bonus. 14000pts of wolves coming at ya will put the fear into even an astartes ^_^

 

Just found the only pics i took of that game and i think its turn 3 so will get em up when i get home. Looks impossible that we won its crazy!

Bit later than I was expecting but heres the pictures of turn 3 showing the left middle then right side of the table.this is just after the deathwing arrived and were destroyed and when the thunderhawk was off the board ready to drop off logan and co. into the blood raven terminators just about to reach the city walls.

Sorry for not posting the pictures themselves figured this would be easier on low bandwidths.

 

The dark angels pushed their land raiders up and unleashed terminators from them as well as dropping 15 in the city centre but seemed very reluctant to move their troops up. Not surprised since there was a mine field the length of the city just outside the walls but still... they are MEANT to be astartes...
