Butcher's Nails

Recommended Posts

Looking at the coming soon titles near the very end is Butcher's Nails by ADB...if i remember correctly that was the term for the aggression implants that world eater's received. Thoughts? Will ADB be using his gift with the world eaters?...not sure if this has already been discussed but color me intrigued.

Aye, this one's getting my full anticipation. From the Aurelian excerpt we got, ADB seemed to go down the route of a constantly-struggling Angron, the jolts taking their toll on the Primarch. Hopefully we'll get an insight of the angry boy's mind and, since we're at it, some interaction between him and some loyalist primarchs, like Jaghatai, Russ or Dorn. And here's to hoping Khârn stars in this. It's the obvious choice, I know, but hey...it's the obvious choice.
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Olisredan summed it up perfectly, A D-B+WE = awesomeness & WIN!!! Being as he did a cracking job with Logar, I have no doubts that he can pull off Angron. I thought Matt Farrer did a cracking job with his WE short, so I am sure A D-B will do that short justice! Am defo looking forward to seeing how he pulls off the part where the Emperor takes him away from his gladiators (assuming that A D-B will start with life before the legion?). This has been the one legion I have been waiting to read! Just hope A D-B manages to get his hands on Sigismund & the Fists next!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to try and be delicate about this. But I'll say it here, so it gives me something to link to all the other times I'll get asked in the next year.

The First Heretic was my first Horus Heresy novel, which is followed by Aurelian (2011) and The Butcher's Nails (2012).

Aurelian is the limited edition novella based around what Lorgar saw in the Eye of Terror, and how he acts with the other primarchs after Isstvan V - following on directly from The First Heretic. It also shows how the Word Bearers now act among the other Legions, which has changed drastically, too. Lastly, it sets up (in very obvious terms) what my next HH novel will be about. It also leads directly into The Butcher's Nails.

The Butcher's Nails is obviously a Horus Heresy audio story about Angron and the World Eaters. It follows on directly from Aurelian, and leads even more obviously into my next Horus Heresy novel.

You don't need to read Aurelian or listen to The Butcher's Nails in order to get what's going on in my next HH novel. They're additions to the storyline, not mandatory slices of it. They're a good indication of how much Lorgar and his Word Bearers have changed, and they show how I present Angron in the Heresy. They essentially bridge the gap between The First Heretic and The Novel I'm Not Allowed To Talk About Yet.

As stated elsewhere (by Dan), The Novel I'm Not Allowed To Talk About Yet does indeed tie in a little bit to Know No Fear, the novel about Calth.

To repeat: it doesn't matter if you don't want the audio drama, or don't want/manage to get the limited edition novella. I'm careful not to put mandatory, vital stuff in non-novel releases. They're teasers, they're stories in their own right, and they're excellent foreshadowing for what will come next. It's not a case of doing these things instead of a novel, cheating people out of a preferred format. It's doing these things as well as the novels. That's a good thing, so please don't nag me, because I tend to ignore such naggery. (Not that anyone has nagged on the B&C. You're not naggers. I'm just saying, like, in general.)

Butchers nails should be an interesting insight to the World Eaters who let's face it, have had only a little exposure as a legion so far.

With regards to Aurelian, the closing words of the excerpt "You. You are not Fulgrim" was enough to get me pant wettingly excited to try to reserve myself a copy.

Butcher's Nails is Audio? Bummer.

A D-B's Night Lords audio books are fantastic though, so Butcher's Nails should be as well. Cannot wait to get Aurelian either!

Oh, it's not that...I'm sure they're fantastic. I'm mostly deaf though.

Oh jeez I'm sorry. I wonder if there is a transcription for the audio books somewhere available?

It's cool man. It's just a pain trying to understand a spoken story when I miss pieces and chunks depending on if my hearing aids are feeling squirrely (which they usually are, lol). I get frustrated with audio books quickly after I have to rewind for the eighth time, so I gave up on 'em. I'll just be patient and wait for the prose version...

Side note: IED's suck.

You don't need to read Aurelian or listen to The Butcher's Nails in order to get what's going on in my next HH novel.

I noticed this when reading "The Core" and listening to "Throne of Lies" that you have to introduce and describe things you've already done in other novels, because they need to be both stand-alone and tie-ins. Is this annoying to do, since it's taking up word-count?

I will say that I re-listened to "Throne of Lies" after reading "Soul Hunter" and it made a lot more sense, but it was still enjoyable as a stand-alone. I thoroughly look forward to "Butcher's Nails" - Will Michael Dorn be doing the voice of Angron? :D (That's how I hear Angron in my head, as a really, really angry Worf.)

I'm looking forward to A D-B's treatment of Angron and the World Eaters, myself. They are a Legion that has needed more character for a long time. "Blargh! Blood for the Blood God!" is too easy and doesn't actually make a lot of sense when seen in the grand scheme of things.

It's funny, but I always envisioned them as being plain-speaking and generally a pretty cordial bunch...until they turn their implants on. Almost Jekyll & Hyde in legion form.
