TheWulfen92
Sable Claws http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/1355/spacemarine.jpg A sable claw battle brother During the middle years of M36 the High Lords of Terra commissioned the 20th Founding of space marine chapters many of whom were created to restore order to different sections of the galaxy and maintain the imperium’s strongholds in the galaxy. Among those created were the Sable Fangs, Bronze Clad giants created from the genetic material of the White Scars. The gene seed used in their creation was selected to produce warriors whose ferocity and combat skills would rival those of any chapter. Many have commented on the sheer ferocity of the Sable Claws and their rather primitive culture and beliefs. However this would be to greatly underestimate the martial and tactical abilities of the Sable Claws as well as their accomplishments. They were chosen as one of the chapters of the adeptus preatus, a group whose sole purpose was to serve as the front line against chaos ever vigilant against incursions from the warp. The most prominent of which were the black crusades. However the Sable claws are found scattered throughout the galaxy, fighting wherever they are needed against the enemies of mankind and those who seek to destroy the Imperium, from both within and without. The Sable Claws have fought in every Black Crusade since their founding. These have been seen by them as the perfect opportunity for the chapter to prove itself as a fighting force. Whether dispatched in small squadrons across a hundred battle fields, or as several companies in a single campaign, they will be at the front line of any battle taking the fight to the heart of the enemy. Taken from the original gene seed of the white scars legion they consider themselves to be pure astartes, untainted by millennia of regrowth and the “watering down” of the gene seed as they perceive it. They have fought with valiantly and with honour during their proud history purging the galaxy of the Alien and the heretic. They have saved untold billions of lives and become living legends on a thousand worlds. The Sable Claws are a ruthless and combat hungry breed of space marines. Known for their extensive use of transport vehicles and armoured assault. The Sable Claws do not follow the codex astartes instead choosing to follow an organisational structure better suited to their style of warfare. They are a much larger chapter than most boasting 9 Battle Companies, each one consisting of about 150 marines. Once an aspirant has proved himself worthy of joining the chapter and after he has undergone the appropriate rituals he is assigned to a Storm Fang squad. These squads number from around five to fifteen and consist of young and glory hungry new bloods often lead by and older more experienced Sable Claw. Although these squads can often be unruly, their ferocious and rather reckless nature causing them to think they are invincible, they are an indispensable tool of the chapter. For any commander knows that with the right direction their headstrong charges can turn the tide of a battle. Once the young marine has proved his worth he is promoted to one of the main company’s battle squads, known as Bronze Claw squads. These squads form the main part of each company and the marines are equipped with a variety of assault and anti-tank weaponry. The most skilled warriors of the chapter, similar the veteran company of other marine chapters, are known as the Sableites. These are the finest and most battle hardened of all the astartes and lead the other squads, passing on their experience, and protect the Company Commander into battle. These marines are adorned with the finest equipment the chapter has to offer. The devastator squads of the Sable Claws consist of older members of Bronze Claw squads normally whose pack size has gradually been reduced. These squads are then equipped with the best Anti-tank and Anti-infantry heavy weaponry contained in the armouries and use their centuries of battlefield expertise to target the enemy units with uncanny precision and accuracy. The Sable Claws home world of Ersairis located close to the eye of terror is a vast and lush world, teeming with life and covered nearly entirely in thick forest land. The atmosphere is oxygen rich due to the large amount of vegetation and this has had dramatic effects on the planets wildlife. Due to the increase in oxygen the creatures are able to grow to a vast size. The fames sable cats for which the chapter is named after can grow up to 10ft from the floor to its back. With Razor sharp talons that can slice through plate steel and large canines it closely resembles the Sabre-tooth Tigers which once inhabited ancient Terra. This makes the forests a very dangerous place as if the animals don’t get you the plant life will, from vines that can constrict and crush the life from a man in seconds to some of the most toxic flowers in the galaxy. Ersaris is a feral world and the struggle that is surviving on the planet makes for a hardy recruiting ground for space marines. The chapter fortress of the Sable Claws is located in the equatorial mountains of the planet. The fortress in build inside and on top of the Trikar Plateau. A huge plateau which legend tells was a mountain cut in half by imperial technologies beyond comprehension and before even the Dark Age of Technology when humanity had just discovered the stars. The fortress itself is built from marble mined from one of the moons of another planet of the Felideaus system in which Ersaris sits as the 4th planet from its large yellow sun. The fortress is said to rival, in majesty and architectural beauty, to those in the Macragge system. Its dominates the landscape, a pure white temple of stone rising as high the copper-Oxide stained peaks around it. The planet is host to two moons, Lexidus and Korinth. The landscape of Lexidus could not be further from that of its parent world. It is an arid red coloured desert world stripped of nearly all life by harsh winds and sandstorms which can last for months. The reddish colour is due to large amounts of iron in the plants crush and therefore the Northern third of the planet is occupied by large mining complexes and hives. The little natural life that survives on the planet lives near the Polar Regions where the temperature is slightly cooler and liquid water can be found below the surface. The sable Claws maintain a training base here where all aspirants begin their training. The Sable Claws recruit their potential new marines from the nomadic warrior tribes the roam the race of their home world. These aspirants are then taken to Lexidus where they are put through what is known as the trial of the Agoge. Here the aspirants are push above and beyond their limits. The aspirants are taken to an undisclosed location and must make their way back to the Kavasnian base, the journey normally takes around a week and many perish along the way. The survival skills as well as the aspirants’ determination and will are tested during this long and treacherous journey. Those that make it back to the Chapters keep have proved themselves worthy and begin the long transformation into a fully-fledged space marine. The other moon of Korinth is a small and lifeless world with no atmosphere and weak gravity. It is pock marked by craters and serves as a naval servicing station for the chapter’s fleet. It holds a large amount of orbital defences acting as a shield to Ersaris from any incoming invasions or asteroids. The Sable Claws are a chapter which will engage any enemy of the imperium without question for they believe that the life of every imperial citizen, no matter how lowly, has worth. However this attitude at the efforts of the chapter have often stretched them to breaking point. Twice in their history all but neo of the companies were wiped from existence. However the names of those who gave their lives shall never be forgotten and many stand as statues of marble on bronze in cities and temples scattered throughout the galaxy. During the last millennium the Sable Claws have participated in more wars and campaigns than ever before, being in an almost constant state of war. The manufactories and forges of the chapter working harder than in their history producing munitions and weapons at a higher rate than ever recorded. They have fought against any and all the enemies that has sought to destroyed mankind and always prospered winning much glory for the chapter and further cementing their names into Imperial legend. One of the largest actions undertaken to date was the system wide defence of Avican. They had heeded the distress call of the systems governor when a large space hulk had appeared from the warp on the edge of imperial space. When a small expeditionary force was send they reported back a horror The Sable Claws found themselves confronted with an Ork hulk from a long ago waaaaagh , lost in the warp for thousands of years which had slowly become corrupted by chaos. The god of decay had twisted and warped the Orks into huge, festering and rotting beasts. Grotesquely bloated and oozing slime they were a near unstoppable tide. They overwhelmed the outer star systems killing millions and leaving the world as nothing more than pools of dead and decaying matter. The sable claws acted quickly, mobilising all but one of their battle companies. The chapter soon found itself entrenched in a bitter struggle with the Ork tide, the god of nurgle granting the Orks a frightening level of resilience. It was only with the chapter-wide use of flame weapons land raiders did they manage to halt the advance of the Orks. The Sable claws knew they could not stop the space hulk alone and send out for the aid of their brothers. The Destroyers chapter answered their call and sent a full half of their chapter. Together and with the help of the imperial navy they were able to defeat the Ork. Their plan involved setting a trap for them on the world of Thispador, a small ex-mining world of no use or strategic gains and with no population, luring the green tide into the gorges which scar the face of the planet before caving in the canyon walls around them destroying most of the invasion force. The Sable Claws ships and Destroyers ships along with a remises class battle cruiser and escorts from the imperial navy, were warp translated into the sector and destroyed the space hulks the Orks had been using for transportation. The surviving tainted green skins were then sought out and vanquished by the 7th battle company and helped establish the normal imperial order in the system. The Chapter has also fought and prospered in many campaigns across the galaxy over their glorious history. They have battled long and hard with the tyranid threat approaching from the northern Halo stars. Hive fleet Olivain is a relatively small hive fleet yet it would not seem that was to the imperial citizens of the sectors which it has ravaged. Stripping agri worlds and hive worlds alike bare and devouring even the planets atmospheres in its never ending hunger. In M38 on the world of Havinitas the Sable claws stunted one of the hive fleets tendrils and forever stopped its endless rampage in its tracts. The Fourth company, whose job it had been to slay these beasts since they first became a menace to the worlds of the imperium closest to the Halo stars. Upon Orgach the fourth company fought alongside expeditionary forces from the adepts mechanicas and the 7th company of the Vostroyan Firstborn which also included elements from their super heavy arsenal in the form of two baneblades. Thought the fourth company was almost destroyed they battled through and when the smoke had cleared the battle was won. The space marines battle cruisers destroyed the Hive ships of the Tyranids and over the next few months the remaining survivors routed out and destroyed all remaining traces of the Tyranids from the world. Cleansing the small pockets of the xenos infection with the bolter and the sword. Jehoel
I would remove the date from the founding info. During the middle years of M36 the High Lords of Terra commissioned the 7th Founding of space marine chapters. The 7th founding appears to have been in late M32, but even that is not certain. Middle M36 would put it during the Age of Apostasy. Not a good idea. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235384-sable-claws-v20/#findComment-2834604 Share on other sites
CKO
Really good start, but what I would like to know is what makes them different from other chapters that guard the Eye of Terror? Ace Debonair
Sorry this isn't more in-depth, but there's a couple of instances in which you refer to Sable Fangs rather than Sable Claws. :D I figure that's either a mix-up, or another chapter cunningly hidden away in your IA that almost nobody knows about. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235384-sable-claws-v20/#findComment-2835918 Share on other sites
Ring-around-the-roses
I would edit just a little bit, maybe downplay their Heroes and there is some spelling mistakes. 'butter fighting'? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235384-sable-claws-v20/#findComment-2835923 Share on other sites
Castiel
I like the background , but you should stick the whole thing through a spelling and grammar check on a word processor! TheWulfen92
Reworked it somewhat after getting inspiration from the new IA books. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/235384-sable-claws-v20/#findComment-2876471 Share on other sites
Ace Debonair
You missed one: During the middle years of M36 the High Lords of Terra commissioned the 20th Founding of space marine chapters many of whom were created to restore order to different sections of the galaxy and maintain the imperium’s strongholds in the galaxy. Among those created were the Sable Fangs, Bronze Clad giants created from the genetic material of the White Scars. I keep making mistakes like that myself, so I know how much of a pain that can be. I'd give this IA a more thorough readthrough, but it's getting late and that is one fine large wall of text. Maybe a few gaps between paragraphs, if not organising it into sections might make it easier to digest? NightrawenII
Hello, I'm going to C&C your Chapter, but be waned I will show no mercy of forgiveness... :P First, I'm going to lend a quote of our "beloved" brother Octavulg, here we go: You know, sometimes, there's a problem. And you don't speak up about it. Perhaps out of shame. But today, I must speak. Ladies and gentlemen, I must talk to you about the scourge of PEOPLE NOT USING LINE BREAKS. It's a tragedy of our times, good people. But I have held my tongue long enough. Line breaks are our friends, and we must remind them of this by using them to keep our writing readable. Thank you for your time. Seriously. Proper line breaks are necessary, helpful, and compulsory. :) If there is one thing that prevents C&C, it's making an IA hard to read, and a lack of line breaks makes things hard to read.
